Grand-parents, parents & various children, nieces & nephews should ALWAYS have a secret word. Something that can't be found on Facebook (where amazing personal information can be found). A phrase, with response, is the best.

I was called saying it was my favorite grandchild & he was in jail in Mexico & needed $1650.00 so he could get a court date. Was told by another person I asked to talk to that marijuana was found in his car & they felt he fell into the wrong hands of people & needed that money so he could get home. I told who I thought was my grandson that I did not have that type of money, then he pleaded for me not to tell anyone the stopped talking. I called my daughter & she found this site. Please let me know if I can do more to stop this from happening to anyone else, thank you.

This scam is back in action.  They are targeting seniors now.  Please advise all seniors you know about this grandparent scam.  They actually had my kids name when they called my parents, my poor mom and dad about fell for it....if anyone gets this call regardless if they do not fall for it they need to inform the FBI so they can track these monsters down.  On the FBI page you can file a complaint under the IC3 form which should be sent to local authorities so they can analyze data.  Google the "Grandparents Scam" and it will give you all the links.

...only reason i didn't answer ..  i didn't recognize the area code as one i have any dealings with.. the last time i got a phone call after 3 a.m. in the morning.. was when my mother passed away in hospital.. so i know... nothing good could ever come of a phone call .. at that unGODLY.. hour :(
....so it woke me from my muchly desired sleep :(  .. im self employed .. work 12-14 hours a day.. struggling in this economy..  - what needs to happen.. is.. "CLASS-ACTION-LAWSUIT" against Google.. to smarten them up.. as far as im concerned.. they are an "Accomplice".. for "enabling" the criminals to "HIDE" behind an untraceable phone number.. - every dime that has ever been bilked out of the Seniors.. should be paid back - by a special slush fund. ...at Google..   - once their PRECIOUS PROFITS.. start to dwindle.. im sure the Stock Holders would INSIST.. this . ."google phone from your computer" feature.. - would get .. YANKED from their "OPTIONS" :D ...but wait.. MAYBE NOT.. cause.. we should allllll know by now.. - that COLD CORPORATIONS don't care about the lil people.. (those that need their sleep at night.. those.. that.. those that.. worked 50 years of their lives only to be swindled.. out of .. years of pay (and hard sweat)  )... - WHO am i trying to kid :(  ?

Crazy Australian man who wanted to make his son a princess at parties I provide. Got my phone number from a craigslist ad for my business! Rude, abusive and needs to be locked up!!! Just hang up on him. When you call it back it is chinese and then turns to english for a phone answering service. Punch in any number for an extension and it just repeats itself. I really do not know what the thrill was for him. Sicko!!!

Received a call from this number today claiming they were the Internet Services Management Company and that they work on behalf of all internet carriers in Canada.  If you get a call from this number, do not answer or hang up.  They just want to hack your computer.  Called my internet service provider and advised them of the call.  They advised me it is a scam!

There is a guy that keeps calling my elderly parents from this number.  At first they tried the scam game of posing as one of the grandchildren.  When my mom called to ask if any of my children were out of the country and then the details, I was able to tell her what was happening and that they are trying to scam them into wiring them some money.  Horrible thing is though, they called 5 more times.  Then on the 6th time (a week later) my dad told the fellow that he knew what he was up to, the guy hung up.  Then called back while my parents were out and said....."We know who you are, Mr. @@@@ inserting symbols in place of my dad's name) and you live at (they gave the correct address) and told my folks they better sleep with one eye open because they are coming for them!  (Not to mention the fact that they used massive ugly foul language, too!)  Police were called, but they don't know what to do about it.  It was a veiled death threat, don't you think?  How horrible to rob  the elderly of peace and security in their own homes!!!  And google won't do a thing about it.  Yes, folks, these despicable people are hiding behind Google!

You can make free phone calls on the computer from within Gmail (Google's Email). I tried it out today by calling myself and this # showed up on my caller ID.

I signed up for an email account from Google's Gmail today. I noticed they have a feature that allows you to make phone calls from your computer for free and decided to try it out by calling my own house. I tried it twice and this phone number was what showed up on my caller ID. I had to download a program called Google Voice and Video setup to make it work. This feature is great for my family because my kids can call friends from their computers and not tie up the house line but I guess an unfortunate feature of it is scam artists can use it. I wonder if Google can track who's making the calls.

This number is the number that comes up when you use the Google Chat phone dialer.
I was playing with the phone dialer and the number came up on my caller ID.
I had forgot to check what number came  up, until later.
I was wondering who this was then I remembered it was Google Chat.
A perfect way to disguise where you are calling from I guess.

Answered a call from Escondido CA.  Spanish Woman looking for my husband by his first name.  Said she needed to speak with him...It was very important...Private.  I inquired if it was a business call and right away she pick up on it and said she was from Mr. Millers office ... it was about his business insurance...but it was private and she needed to speak to him only.  I asked if it was a solicitation and she stated no. I asked the purpose of her call and she became very upset and called me the "Gatekeeper" then DEMANDED to speak to "Mike".  Needless to say she got tired of the run around and hung up.     -  Never did find out the purpose of her call.  Maybe I'll put her on hold if she calls back.  :)

GOOGLE GRANDPARENTS SCAM -

Avoid the Grandparents Scam: Don't Be Scammed By Phony "Grandkids"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just when you may have thought scammers couldn't sink any lower, some have plunged to record depths. Recently, some scammers have bilked the elderly out of hundreds -- or thousands -- of dollars by posing as their "needy" grandchildren.

According to Consumeraffairs.com, the grandparents scam usually works like this:

You receive a phone call from someone who greets you with, "Hi Grandma."

"Hi."

"Do you know who this is?"

"Jeremy?"

"Yeah!"

Without knowing it, you just made a mistake. Instead of saying, "No, I don't know who this is," you supplied the scammer with the name of a grandchild. He then proceeds to impersonate that grandchild.

Your "grandchild" claims he's gotten into some kind of trouble -- auto accident, overdue rent, minor brush with the law -- and needs money to fix the situation. "Can you please help? But don't tell mom. She'd kill me if she found out!"

This may seem like an obvious scam, but it's fooled plenty of people -- mostly because the scammers are good at what they do. They choose their targets carefully, tug on the heartstrings, and keep other family members "out of the loop" until it's too late.

One scammer "victimized dozens of seniors and found his victims by scanning the phone book for old-fashioned sounding names. One of his victims, an 86-year-old grandmother, even had to use a walker in order to get to her bank and withdraw money for him."

The scammers are cunning -- one couple could have sworn the guy REALLY was their grandson.

Recommendation: There's one easy way to expose the fraud: DO NOT fill in any "blanks" for the scammer. For example:

"Do you know who this is?"

"No, I don't. Who is this?"

"It's your granddaughter."

"Really? Which one?"

Most likely, the next sound you hear will be a click, followed by a dial tone.

That's the easiest way not to fall for the grandparents scam.
