I receive a call at 11.30 pm. I did not answer,I call back and not bady answers.

Called and was real catty.  Said something about donations to vets, and asked if he could have my money.  Said no, and asked to remove my number.  Blocked the number so should not have another call!

Number showed up with no name & when I answered hung up without saying anything.

I don`t like phone calls there is never anybody there so quite calling

Got a call from this number. Guy was gruff and asked if I was Mrs. (butchered my boyfriends last name.) I told him he had the wrong number and he hung up.  Is there anyway to report these scam artists? (as this is not the only person who calls fraudulently)

Hope who ever this fool is he gets hit by a truck and dies!!

Guy called and was real chatty, about 6 PM at night.  Told me not to worry I was not being drafted.  I asked what he was calling about and said was with the VFW.  Told him it was dinner time and said he would call back another time.  Suspicious type call.

got the same call today and you could someone in the background with sounds like to be a tv  playing and it only seems like they call females.

I just did a little skiptracing on this number and found it is a land line based in Twin Cities, MN and is unpublished. A legitimate number for the VFW would be a published number.

I too am in SC and this guy called asking if I was Mrs (my name) when I asked who was calling he hung up. Same voice and background noise as everyone else is describing on these posts.  I do not think this is a legitimate call from the VFW I do think it is a scammer. Legit callers wouldn't just hang up on you "they" have nothing to fear. Someone trying to find out if anyone is home or con you does however.

Hi I called this # and got an answering machine. He stated he was from a welfare office and they were looking for donations. SCAM

Got a call...decided to google it.  there was no one on the other line...just dead air.  Seemed suspicious, which is why I googled.

This is the second time this number has called.  A few weeks back, got the call - asked in a 'county' voice whether so-and-so was home, I said there was no one here by that name.  They then yelled, "Who's this?" in the same voice and I responded with "you called me, who is this?" They then in a regular voice said "Must have the wrong number, sorry."  Googled the number and came across this posting.

Just got another call and this time they knew my husband's name, asked for him, and said they wouldn't leave a message for him, they'd just call another time.  He had the 'tone' like he was an old friend.  The number looked familiar so I googled it and then recalled it was the same number as before.

Is there anyway to get this to stop?  This is harassing.

Wondering why he just hangs up and doesn't continue to try to solicit.  A little freaky that one person said they found tracks around their house.  Makes me think they are trying to target empty houses for theft?  Wondering where everyone is located.  I'm in SC and just got a call from this number.  I didn't answer though.

Seems more like he might be targeting Vets.  My husband is retired military and we got a call too.  I didn't answer though.  I generally don't answer calls where I don't recognize the number.  This guy definitely seems like a scammer.

It's a paid professional fundraiser. Typically $12,000 will go to the VFW or whatever other charity he is collecting for and they keep the remainder which can be in the $100,000's. If you're going to give, give to the United Way, Salvation Army or someone else more reputable.

We got a phone call from this number today, but we weren't home to take the phone call.  It comes up on the Caller ID as an unknown name with this telephone number.

Just got a call from 763-269-4827 again. This is at least the 3rd call we have gotten in the last 2 weeks. The call comes in as unknown name, but lists the number. I answer it as sometimes these calls are from people we are expecting to hear from. Same thing each time, I say hello once or twice and then the caller hangs up. Glad to hear others are having similar calls, I just wish something could be done about it.

Usually don;t answer but did and nobody was there. Called back and got the recording about fundraisers in our area. I hung up then I dialed *77 and the phone said "your selective call service is on, you will no longer recieve calls listed as unknown." Yeah

I don't pick up unknown calls either but I have been dealing with a very sad family situation and have been receiving different phone numbers the last day or two and picked it up. The guy was very very shady so I thought I would research it- when I asked who he was or where he was from he stumbled with wording and hung up. All I can say is that I was and am glad that my husband is home for all I know is he could have been sitting across the street and he did know my name.

Normally I do not pick up unknown calls, however, felt that I had seen this number before so picked up. Had to say hello a couple of times and was about to hang up when person on the other side started speaking and asked for my name. When I said I was the person, he said 'Sorry wrong number' and hung up.

Received a call from this # today but did not answer and no message left on my answering machine.

From my understanding, non-profits are exempt from the do not call list.
From the posts listed, I rather wonder if this is even from an organization...sounds to me like an individual scammer.

Caller spoke to me like a long lost friend and was rather patronizing. He said he represents the MN Veterans of Foreign Wars, which if true, is a wonderful non-profit organization.

Unfortunately, like so many other organizations with noble and honorable missions (FOP, State Patrol, Special Olympics, Lupus, etc.), they employ dishonorable fund-raising methods and discredit themselves as well as their causes.

I intend to contact the MN VFW Department Headquarters at 651-291-1757 or email them at mnvfw@qwestoffice.net to have my name and number removed from their calling list.

Gruff voice. Said he was with the VFW.  Acted fakey friendly like a professional telemarketer.  I felt he was trying to get a vibe from me on how stupid I was. I wasn't rude but I wasn't friendly. I asked him what I could help him with and he hung up.  I am a woman.  Definately not legit.

I was at work when we got the call.  When I got home I noticed that someone had been on my deck, close enough to look into my kitchen.  Tracks go all around the house.  The person stopped at another window, I assume to look in my family room.  It was not a meter reader - none of my neighbors had tracks to their meters. Then I checked caller ID and saw this number. This person may be checking houses after his phone call goes unanswered.  The police were just here to take a report. They will be checking on the number.

called our house asked my son if his parents were home and when one of the parents answered hello caller hung up, male gruff sounding

I just received a call from this number. It came up as "unknown" so I didn't answer it. I believe this number has come through before so I decided to look it up. Thanks for all the info here---I definitely won't be answering this number. There was no message left but the caller delayed in disconnecting the call.

Called again.  Same story as above:

(Hard to hear with static and other voices in backround) "This is ? from VFW. Don't worry you aren't being drafted.  That's a good thing, huh? <laugh>."  Told him I was in the middle of something.  He said they would call back when I wasn't and hung up.  Obviously paid by the donation and not the hour.

Will be using call blocking to block this number.

This is ______(couldn't hear name)__ from VFW. Don't worry you aren't being drafted.  How are you doing?  I said OK and then was silent. Finally he said thanks for your time and hung up.

It was different than the usual fund raiser call. Didn't know what to make of it and then found this list.
