This person (ms. steffins or something) called at 8:30am for my brother, who hasn't lived at this address for over 8 years, and the number was changed 6 years ago. I told her "he doesn't live here anymore", she asked if I had his current number or the number of someone else who knew how to contact him. I told her "no" (my parents always told me to never give out information of someone else without their permission). So she asked me if I could take down her number, fair enough. Judging by the previous posts about a possible scam, I won't be passing this message along.

A lady from TLC called me about a loan from CashNet, saying that they were getting ready to garnish my wages, which they can't do without a judgment, then she told me that she had spoken with my mother.  I said "How did you do that? She has been dead for eight years!'"

They call my cell phone and ask for employment verification. I don't know who they are, or what the deal is, they are vague as to what the matter is about. You hang up and they immediately call back. I have 20 calls on my cell in less than an hour.

A female identifiying herself as Mrs. Stevens called me on 7-7-08. She stated that the company she is with is TLC.  The number she called me at was my work number and she told me that my sister gave my name and number as a reference for a loan she was applying for.  Mrs. Stevens also quoted my husbands name and our home home number.  After telling her that I know nothing of a loan my sister is applying for and that I will not give her any information she became somewhat rude and stated "well then I won't approve the loan".  I did call my sister to check this out and my sister told me that she has NOT applied for a loan.

Ms. Stevens kept calling my sister and asking questions about me and my sister would not give out any information. I called and left a voicemail message for this woman, Ms. Stevens to no avail. I have no clue what type of company this is but she kept mentioning a court date...and I totally do not have any court dates!! I looked this number up online and found out is it a total scam and is even on the Rip Off Reports website too. So people beware!!!

This is a collection agency.  Ms. Stephens was the representative with whom I spoke.  She was very professional and polite.  She was collecting on an old credit card debt of mine.  She identified herself and provided me with the information needed to establish the debt.  I'm glad she was polite and professional.  The debt was mine, I had fallen behind on my bills and it was nice to speak with someone who was non judgmental.  I was able to settle the debt in full over the telephone.  It was a very good experience as far as collections experiences go.  I can never understand why collection agents in general are so nasty.  Nasty tactics aren't going to make me any more willing to pay my debt.  Working with this agency was a breath of fresh air in a difficult time.

I received a call from this number and the lady claimed to be a Mrs. Stevens.  She wanted to talk to me but I told her that I wasn't home.  She said that I had called and left her my phone numbers so that she can call me back.  I never saw this number before in my life.  She gave me a 1-800-557-7416 phone number.  When I called the 1-800 phone number, she answered.  I tried to get some information from her but she wouldn't give me any.

I received a call from this company, the caller,"Mrs.Williams" asked me if I knew A- and would I call her and have her call them, I asked what this was about and was informed it was in regards to some bills owed by A-and I was named as a reference.
I told "Mrs.Williams" to call A- herself, that I was not getting involved. "Mrs. Williams" told me she had tried, but kept getting busy signals. I said THAT was NOT MY problem, I was NOT going to call her or get involved.
"Mrs.Williams" then said she would call ME EVERYDAY, DAY or NIGHT, until I called A-.
I informed "Mrs.Williams" I am an employee of Verizon Telephone Company and what she was threatening to do constituted telephone harassment and THAT is against the law, at which point she hung up on me.
I called the States Attourney's office and was told if they called back to try and get an address and the States Atty's Office would issue a complaint against them.

Collection Company Settles Unauthorized Billing Charges
A company that sent bills to consumers for services consumers did not order has agreed to settle FTC charges that the billing scheme violated federal law. The company is barred from billing consumers without their express consent and is required to monitor the vendors with which it does business and take action, including ending its relationship with a vendor, if the vendor engages in illegal billing practices.

In May 2003, the FTC charged TelCollect, Inc., working on behalf of Alyon Technologies, Inc., and its principal, Stephane Touboul, with illegally billing consumers for adult videotext services purportedly accessed on the Internet. According to the FTC, Alyon downloaded a dialing program onto consumers? computers, allegedly after consumers clicked on a button to agree to the terms and conditions for such a download. The dialing program then disconnected consumers? Internet connections and reconnected them to the defendants? network, then billed consumers $4.99 for each minute they had supposedly purchased the services, regardless of whether the line subscribers had authorized the purchase. The FTC?s complaint stated that TelCollect was responsible for collecting on past-due payments, allegedly sending bills to consumers on company letterhead that said the ?delinquent account formerly owed to Alyon Technologies Inc has been placed with TelCollect for recovery...This communication is from a debt collector.? TelCollect also was responsible for answering the toll-free ?customer service? hotline listed on some of the allegedly delinquent bills.

In December 2004, Alyon and Stephane Touboul settled FTC charges and dropped their claim to more than $17 million in consumer bills. They are barred from billing a consumer or claiming a consumer owes money for any videotext service without the consumer?s express, verifiable authorization. They are further barred from planting software on consumers? computers without their consent.

In the settlement announced today, TelCollect is permanently barred from billing a consumer for any videotext services unless it has verification that the consumer is an adult who has expressly agreed to purchase the services and has received clear and conspicuous notice of all the terms and conditions associated with the purchase. The defendant also is required to obtain written agreement from each vendor it works with that the vendor will comply with the terms of the stipulated order. The order requires that TelCollect monitor each vendor, including conducting investigations of consumer complaints of unauthorized billing, and take appropriate action ? which may include terminating its business relationship ? against any vendor who fails to comply. The order contains standard recordkeeping and reporting provisions to assist the FTC in determining the defendant?s compliance.

The Commission vote authorizing staff to file the stipulated final order was 5-0. The complaint was entered in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, Atlanta Division, on June 13, 2005.

Note: This stipulated final order is for settlement purposes only and does not constitute an admission by the defendant of a law violation. A stipulated final order requires approval by the court and has the force of law when signed by the judge.

Copies of the stipulated final order are available from the FTC?s Web site at http://www.ftc.gov and also from the FTC?s Consumer Response Center, Room 130, 600 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20580. The FTC works for the consumer to prevent fraudulent, deceptive, and unfair business practices in the marketplace and to provide information to help consumers spot, stop, and avoid them. To file a complaint in English or Spanish (bilingual counselors are available to take complaints), or to get free information on any of 150 consumer topics, call toll-free, 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357), or use the complaint form at http://www.ftc.gov. The FTC enters Internet, telemarketing, identity theft, and other fraud-related complaints into Consumer Sentinel, a secure, online database available to hundreds of civil and criminal law enforcement agencies in the U.S. and abroad.

Got several calls on my caller id from them.  I called back, spoke to a "representative" - female.  She was HIGHLY evasive to my direct questions: "Who are you, and what company are you representing, why are you calling." etc.  She would not tell me anything. Just kept asking for my social security number and phone number.  She then became VERY ANGRY and laughed at me when I suggested the police may be involved.  "Who are you going to call? The PHONE POLICE, Sir?" is what she said.
I told her to use "GOOGLE" and enter her phone number.  "We are on to you Ma'am" I said.

She abrubtly hung up.
