Ms. Martin called the home phone twice (didn't answer) and then my cell.  She asked to verify my name was Kathy (I think that's what she said -- somewhat hard to understand her).  Then she asked me to verify my zip code.  When I told her I couldn't do that until I knew who she was and what she was calling about, she seemed to grow exasperated with me and then explained how a zip code was "something I shared with my neighbors" so I could "share' it with her. She kept refusing to identify the purpose of her call without me "sharing" my zip code which I refused to do so I asked if I could call her back to confirm her idenitfy.  She gave me the phone number, extension and "number I would need when I I called."  I then jumped on this site.  As far as I know I don't owe any money to anyone and needless to say, will not be calling Ms. Martin back and have marked her as "DO NOT ANSWER."

Thanks for the below information!!!  I too am getting calls from Oxford Mgmt,  at least 4 phone calls PER DAY, even on weekends.    Your information on how to word it to these people is very very helpful.  Sometimes people can get caught offguard and don't know what to say and could possibly get 'suckered' into their payment schedule.  If we don't help each other out - how would we know to stop or help ourselves.

My wife received a call from this number yesterday and said they had important business to discuss, but first they wanted the last four digits of her SSN.  Yeah, right buddy.  They said if she didn't want to give that, then how about her zip code.  No, you're not getting anything.  Oh, but we have important business to discuss with you but can't do it unless you provide some information.  Uh huh, if it's that important, mail me something.  Click!

This number isn't just used by a Debt Collection Agency.  I don't know who she was speaking to and they wouldn't ID themselves.  I blocked their number from calling again.

What I have found out about collectors is this. They buy out the debt for pennies on the dollar. Then they do a lot of illegal stuff to go after a person. Like most of us like being out of work for over two years. It is so much fun to be sitting at home wondering how we are going to pay a mortgage if we are able to keep a car or even eat in the next few days. Then they call and harass the living hell out of us. My solution is I contact the BBB then do another complaint with the FTC. Next step is a bankruptcy. It is called illegal collections. I sent a letter to the first creditor put a stop calling me. They buy it out which is there stupidity and then they already have a do not contact number per a letter which it goes back on them as illegal then if they take you to court which is going to cost them money one can do a motion to vacate based on illegal collections practices. That is per the fair credit and reporting act. Once that letter is sent to the original creditor then they cannot call harass or even send you mail. A charge off the original creditor means there insurance (liability) covered that charge off. When they sold the debt to a collection agency they are trying to double dip as that was already paid for through liability insurance. Per the BBB and even Chase Bank pay the original creditor only. The ones who bought the debt did it all illegally. One cannot double dip. Just like a business that has gone out of business on a bankruptcy they cannot call you as it is a scam on there part. If you block the number and they continue to call you, the recourse is to report to the Public Utility Commission they will lose there phone as well as there business. It is illegal to threaten or harass by phone.

They just called me asking for my neice, I informed them she does not live here, and of course they asked me for a number to reach her by. I told them that I would not give any numbers out to anyone not idenitying themselves. So they asked me to get a message to her. I did and let her use my phone. They did their song and dance, and she kept saying I have to look at me finaces. She then told them not to call me because she does not live here. The person said being your Uncle is being so rude does he want to help you pay your debt. Well she hung up on them and I called back to make sure I didn't get a call again , got the same person who turned to me and said don't worry she will get hers in the end And hung up on me. I tried to call back and they just picked up the phone and hung it right back up.

They keep calling my cell phone reagrding my mother who is in a nursing home.  They will not identify who they are.  They asked if I had a power of attorney for my mother and wanted a copy and also wanted to confirm her SS# without ever IDing themselves or disclosing what the call is about.

I got a call from this number today (Aug 9 2010) but the stupid woman had such a thick foreign accent I couldn't even understand her so I hung up.  If you're going to spam someone, at least don't use stupid foreign people who can't even pronounce English.

The statute of limitations puts a limit on their ability to sue you in court for the debt, it in no way restricts the time that debt collectors may attempt to collect the debt. ( which they may do as long as they hold the debt.)

Anyone that owes these people money and does not want to hear from them again should simply tell them not to contact you by phone, that you will respond only to written requests for payment or information.
( Tell them it's for "book keeping" purposes and demand "proof of debt " including a copy of the original signed or verbal contract between you and the original lender which you by law have to be furnished if you request it.) That request really makes them mad!
Once you get a letter from them either demanding payment or providing " proof of debt" then send a cease and desist letter ( google free samples) and mail it off in the handy envelope they provided ( send it registered mail and keep a copy.). They will have to respond one more time to your cease and desist letter advising you of their planned future actions: They will either drop it, sue you, or sell your debt to someone else and the fun will start over again with some other agency.
Once you have sent them the cease and desist letter , they are violating the law if they continue to contact you and you could take legal action against them...if they continue to call simply tell them that you will take legal action that you are aware that they are in violation of legal statutes and discuss nothing further ( and send no more money to them !).

Good Luck

They get your phone #'s through fastdataweb.com (through this program they will get all prev address that you lived at, your ss#, phone #'s and addresses for family members,,,,,,, lexis nexis,, google,, facebook, myspace, a program called BOSS, imageview,, there are many many more programs that this co can use. No I don't work for this co but but have worked in collections b4, and no I didn't treat people with disrespect as you would think a typical collection agent would! There is no such thing as an "unlisted" phone # don't waste your time or money trying to get one.

They call my cell phone repeatedly, but I've never answered (I don't answer unknown numbers), and they've never left a voicemail, so I don't really know what they want.

Is this legit or a scam?  I don't have any outstanding charges anywhere, so I don't know what debts they would be collecting.

Everyone should look up the statute of limitations laws on debt collecting for there state. I live in nh and  the limitations for collecting on my account is before 3 years. My account is officialy passed 3 years so it is illegal to collect on because of the debt fairness act and statute of limitations.

Got a call last week from 772-882-3200 noted as "FL, USA" on my phone. I answered the phone "Hello" and a man said, "Mrs. Ryder?" That is *not* my name, and I said, "No, I'm sorry, you must have the wrong number. What number are you calling?" And the man said, "Well, Mrs. Ryder, this phone is *officially* listed as belonging to Mrs. Ryder." (I've had the number for over 6 years, "officially" registered through AT&T.) I said, "Well, I''m sorry, it doesn't. Who is this?" And he said, "If you're *not* Mrs. Ryder, then *who* are you?" I said, "I don't identify myself on the phone to strangers. I'm *not* the person you're looking for and you are mistaken. Don't call this number again."

Since then, I've gotten a call at least every day from a blocked phone number - some days multiple calls. Since I don't pick up blocked calls, I'm tolerating it for now, but my guess is that it's still Oxford, if that's who the first call was from, and they simply aren't accepting that whatever crappy, inaccurate info they were originally given is wrong.

Seriously - do these idiots think they're going to *talk* me into *being* Mrs. Ryder or something? And if I really *was* Mrs. Ryder and denying it, would I suddenly break down and "confess"?

The bull-headed stupidity of such people continues to amaze me.

Dell hired these people to harass me.  They are currently taking money out of my bank account every month, but claimed today that my payment was bounced back..whatever that means!!  Well, I wanted to know just where it bounced back to, because it sure as heck wasn't back into my bank account!  After talking with 3 different people (being on hold between them of course) it was found to be a mistake, they "read the account wrong".  They were pretty ignorant up until that point then when they realized they screwed up they couldn't get off the phone with me quickly enough!!  I will clean toilets or do anything else before I will ever be one of "those" people!

These people represent a  third party collection agency located in Fort Pierce, Florida. If you are behind in your payments of any kind, then your creditors will send you to these "people". I use the word "people" loosely here.  Of course, with the economy the way it is, and I am unemployed for over a year...my creditors SallieMae sent my account to these "people"...I do not know the name of their company, but I assure you that they are shady.  For two days, I spoken with a Mr. Lopez about my account, but I wasn't getting anywhere with him, so I told him I wanted to speak with his supervisor.  He was threatening me with lends and criminal charges, and was going to contact the IRS on me for fraud, etc.  Even when he put me on hold, Lopez would pop up from time to time on the phone and threaten me some more.  I just kept asking for a supervisor.  Once the supervisor, Kevin Williams, was on the phone he want to verify some of my contact info, I was pleading my case that when a crazed lady, Ms. Chloe (not the psychic, circa 1990s) got on the phone and cursed me.  She called me a bum and a lier, that I got the eduaction and making money and I am holding out from not paying and maybe other things also, I couldn't understand her crazy ranting.  Anyway, these people are boorish and belligerent, and don't want to understand your financial hardships.  I am appaul with their unprofessionalism, and I need to report these people.  I tried taking with Sallie mae, and they want nothing to do with it.  So everything is in lobo. So I hope this halps in telling you want type of people you are dealing with on the other end of the phone.

They call my home while I am not home and the message goes like " This is a message for Bob. By staying on the line you are admitting to being Bob." I am not there. How can I admit to anything? Someone has to know if this is legal and where to report these people. Any help out there?

I received a call at 7:35 am this morning on my HOME PHONE.  The caller asked for "Gwendolyn Smith".  I advised her that this was the "Smith" household but there was no named Gwendolyn at this residence or in our immediate family.  When I asked who she was she told me, if I wasnt' Gwendolyn...I shouldn't worry about it.  I admit I did get testy with this woman, who calls at 7:30 in the morning anyway.  I asked that my number be removed from her list and hung up.  Three minutes later my CELL PHONE rings with a call from the same number.  They hear my voice and immediately hang up on me.  I called  the number back and hit zero for the operator.  She gives me a song and dance on how calls are random and done by computer.  WOW that's some coincidence.  We exchange words and she hangs up on me.  That smart computer randomly called my HOME and CELL within 3 minutes of each other.  This woman did tell me they were a banking institution (lie).  I quickly came to the conclusion they were trying to collect on a debt.  Can someone tell me how they could get both HOME and CELL numbers?

These people called my home WHILE I WAS NOT THERE and in their scripted message said something like " This message is for Bob. By continuing to stay on the line you are admitting to be Bob". They are debt collectors (Oxford Management). Is this legal? How can you admit or not admit to being someone if you are not home and the phone records a message? I hope this gets to the authorities somewhere.

Debt Collector
I am receiving calls from this number.  They have left an occasional message.... for my son (who is 36 years old and lives in a different state).  They start out by saying this message is for......
and if you are not...... please hang up.  If you are.....this call will contain some personal information, do not listen to it in the company of others.  Then there is about a three second pause...and then it goes into "This is Oxford Management, we are a debt collection agency and any information obtained will be used to collect a debt.  Then a "please call....their toll free number....an extension and a file #.

I am not sure why they are trying to contact my son, but it will not be through me.  They not only call on my home phone, but are now harrassing me three to four times a day on my cell phone as well!!

Debt Collector
Just got a call from this number. Wanted to confirm my Ssn. Talked about legitimate debt, but I'm concerned because I've read so much about them being scams. I googles it while on the phone with her and mentioned this and she freaked out. After calmed I told her I would look into it and call her back. They can't call you more that twice in one week legally. Also telling them not to call doesn't work, you have to send the cease and desist in writing. Save the letter and get delivery confirmation.
