Funny, that. I just called the NRA to tell them that the spoofing continues, and the lady I spoke with said she'd never heard of anything like this. I should have got through to the Legal Dept. Sorry, gramps, I'll do better next time

Have you considered that these people might be trying to scare you into believing you have "zombie debt" or something like that? I've never owed anyone a penny in my life and I still get calls from these people regularly. One of these days I'll pick up and give them a piece of my mind in the most obscure language I know. Just for fun.

Seriously? You've never heard of numbers being spoofed? The fact that you call back the number that shows up on your caller ID and get the NRA (=Rifle) does NOT necessarily mean that the call originated from there. I've done some homework and it's now my belief that the =Rifle is as much a victim as we are.

Debt Collector
Well, it has started again. The last four days I have received phone calls from the NRA. This is the National
Recovery Agency debt collectors by phone, not the National Rifle Association of America. They seem
to come and go in cycles calling here at work.

I contacted the National Rifle Association at the Member Contact number. I eventually got to the Legal
Department and spoke with a nice person, name is Karl. They are aware of the National Recovery Agency
and the 'spoofing' of the NRA phone number. Action is being pursued, but he couldn't provide details. He
did say it is an ongoing battle.

Oh, and just to send the squishy, touchy-feelie Lib-tards out there into a frothing frenzy, Yes, I am a 25
year member and donor to the National Rifle Association of America.

I'll repeat all this again for the folks out there who want to believe that the real National Rifle Association
is at the root of this misrepresentation. The National Recovery Agency phone callers from whatever
'boiler-room operation', are spoofing your Caller ID function by providing one of the real National Rifle
Association phone numbers as the "DISPLAYED NUMBER", thus masking their origin phone number.
Since the wide spread use of VOIP and ethernet addressed telephony, any caller can transmit any FAKE
Caller ID to your telephone home unit. This is termed 'spoofing'.

Folks, direct your ire at the real root of the problem, it is the National Recovery Agency annoying people,
not the National Rifle Association of America. We don't do that.

Got the call from this number on SUNDAY!  Who does that?  And, for all those saying it is a debt recovery number, can't be.  My husband and I are not past due on ANYTHING. nor have we "let a bill go"!  I do feel it is the National Rifle Association b/c my husband is an active member.  We also got a call yesterday from a different number and according to this website, it is also associated with National Rifle Association.

NRA again, badgering for funding as I didn't renew my membership.  They are using many different numbers and callers now so reporting each one is even more difficult.  I've lost all respect for their group now just from their tactics.  I even had one caller try to explain to me that it was someone posing as the NRA. So I asked him what he was doing by calling me.  Yes, the NRA is badgering folks for funds.

I also got the call, but I didn't mind the call, Why, because I bought a Digitone Call Blocker.  www.digitone.com The first time they call, it rings my phone and the call comes through. I then block the number and the next time they call, my phone doesn't even ring and the blocker hangs up on them. You can even block entire area codes. I have it setup to block any incoming calls with the 855 area code. The blocker keeps track of all calls, good and bad ones. Then I like to check to see who got hung up on just for fun like I am now.

You need to buy one of these, you?ll like it. No monthly fees either

The NRA calls my hubby all the time ~ both for his opinion AND to ask for (more) donations.  Sometimes he wishes he had NEVER signed up with them as they seem to send mail often to ask for MORE donations for various causes.  He's a retired veteran ~ but a person can only give so much!

I just called this number back, after hours.  It is the NRA.  They want us to renew our membership with them.  The caller ID very clearly shows "not provided" not NRA!!!  They have quite a few numbers from which they place calls. We have received calls from at least 3 different numbers!

It IS the National Rifle Association! I got off the phone with them just a couple minutes ago; they are looking for funds from current and previous members. I told them to stop harassing us-they apologized and said the number would be 'removed' in as little as a month. BS. This has nothing to do with being liberal or not.

Prank Call
I have been an NRA member for twenty years and never received a call from them at any time.  I HAVE RECEIVED MANY CALLS FROM NATIONAL RECOVERY AGENCY A DEMOCRATIC FRONT TRYING TO PISS PEOPLE OFF AT THE REAL NRA!! Buy an answering machine and screen your calls!!  I have mine set to pick up after two rings and if its legitimate I pick up or let them leave a message.  If its a scammer or telemarketer I just let them waste their time on Sundays and holidays listening to my recording...lol.

Yeah do that and then every democratic front organization in the country will be given your number as you have just ascertained that the number is a real person.  Then notice the increase in scam calls you begin to receive.  Just use an answering machine to screen your calls and if its a legitimate call they will leave a message and you can call them back or you can pick up.  I laugh every time these idiots waste their time calling me...lol.

Yes it is the NRA, THE National Recovery Agency which is a democratic front trying to piss people off at the real NRA, the National Rifle Association.  Only a fool falls for this crap but then as everyone with a modicum of sense knows, 99% of liberals are incapable of thinking for themselves so they go along with their democratic Party leaders and espouse any completely idiotic thing that they propose without a second of investigating on their own to discern the truthfulness or accuracy of those things.   The real NRA should be suing those reporting this call as one from them for liable and defamation of character for their lack of investigating these calls before reporting them wrongfully as from the National Rifle Association!!

This has been explained before.  I'll try one more time.  Number "spoofing" means scammers have the ability to make ANY number show up on your caller id -- including someone else's legitimate number.  Stop saying "I know it's the National Rifle Association because I called the number back and they answered!"  It doesn't "prove" the call truly originated from there.  The National Recovery Associates are laughing at the thin-telligent people who direct their ire at the National Rifle Association, helping to fulfill their political agenda of hatred against the National Rifle Association, while they still carry out their unfettered attempt to scam personal information from you.  Think it through.  And read the Constitution, at least as far as the second ammendment.

I agree -- the NRA (the real one) does call its members a little more often than necessary. I would also point out that when they do call, the call comes from a legitimate phone number (not a toll-free number), and the caller ID very clearly shows "NRA". They want you to know it's them calling, and not some phisherman.
