shes a total scam artist - she even hung up on me when I asked for more info.  this NOT a retired person, this was a very young girl - claimed my local vfw has event tomorrow.  they do NOT.

I got a call from here a women trying to scam money. The lady called me bad words and hung up so called back it came in ingaged. Call date 9-13-11

I didn't answer because Caller-ID said IL LOCATION.

For one, your calling a phone that is on an outgoing line only most of the time
Most use computers to dial. It is cheaper to pickup the donation
than it is to spend $1,000 on stamps to only get back less than $1,000
I one sends out 1,000 letters, they might only get 10% of them back.
So now at this point the ones sending in donations are helping pay for the
overhead of the cost of mailing. That is an overhead that keeps money going
to programs provided, but it puts the $'s right back into the hands of our US Gov.
that is the cause of the need for people to make these calls in order to make sure
our vets don't get left behind or put out on the streets. 40% of the homeless are veterans !
I have been raising funds for or men & women that earned the right to gain support needed to them
for over 20 yrs. Scam ? lol a far cry from it. I do not own my own home nor have a brand new car.
So who is scamming who ? The vets are the ones that got scammed over & over. Time after time.
Get Washington to give the support us tax payers pay into to the vets rather than there own pockets
& then there would be no need for anyone to spend there life asking for moneys for them ever again.
Don't hold your breath on that pipe dream.
I come from a long line of veteran family members & they all thank me for what I do.
So do many that I have called yr. after yr.

sometimes ret folks,are seldom vets,usually peeps on soc sec,disability,need this for extra $$,,,comish = 25% cold,20% recall, w1099s who get commission only.it's owned by an indian guy in forest park
charity navigator has asked for documentation on percentage of help
available to vets,vfw has not responded.Percentage is 12 % vets,,,balance goes to  rent,lights phones,pens,paper.
most folks spend 20-25 hrs and net 150 bucks,a couple work 50-55 hrs a week,many sats and sundays.OUT OF AREA or PRIVATE means the phone system of the month  is in use.(may be one among 50 choices of business/discount phone)I learned this in the course of many dentist visits down the hall from these guys,they may be ragged ,but effective,they forward in a year,200-300,000$ bucks of direct help to vets.Some of them bypass the biz line and show the 728 number and address,,,just to show being upfront.
ask them if walgreens below still lights the parking lot

They called a few of our office lines. All they say is "oh, did I reach a busiiness?"

same thing here... collecting for vfw. Everything was fine and then they asked my mom to put the check in an envelope and place it under the mat if she was going out. Sounds like a total scam!!!!! ok guy from chicago illinois if you read this we are onto you!!! And if you really are legit then why dont you pick up the phone when I call? All i want is somemore info. its a shame that we should have to second guess if a vfw donation drive is the real deal.

Received this call and they said they were collecting money for the VFW.  Not sure if it is true or not.

I didn't answer because the phone display said the caller name is Unavailable.
