This annoying  number keeps calling our home phone.  If you put them on speaker - dead silence.

yes i did also I am going to have my local police give these people a call thats harrassment to me!

I received a call from 774-847-7087.  When I said hello, I could hear some woman speaking to someone else, but she didn't respond to me.  When I tried calling back, it sounded like a fax tone!

Do not call list does not work, apparently

Oh yes, I've read some other posts and whomevers name is on your phone bill thats who they ask for. They not only ask, but ask as if they know you.

While doing alittle research I tracked it down to what it looked like a company called: Master Chimney Sweeps. But, its NOT them. Infact, the company that calls isn't on the web or an actual business so you can't trace them online so it looks like they are affliliated with Master Chimney Sweeps. The number is located in either Wrenthem, Brockton and Framingham but, when you try to call them back you find out its a fax number so you can't bi*** them out!
We were told this company scams people and that seems apparent with their cold calls and rudeness. My wife answered the phone and I heard her tell the person we were on the do not call list and the woman hung up on her immediatly. This is why we called them back and did some footwork.
Long story short Master Chimney Sweeps told us its a scam company that comes out, does an estimate and charges some money up front for materials. When or if you pay them you never see them again.
So, if your reading this and happen to think you were in luck because you happen to need a chimney company don't use anyone from that 774 number.

Follow-up:  Though it looks like a cell phone, it would appear that the number is attached to some VOIP service.  (Which means the FCC is unlikely to do anything about it because that might actually entail that four-letter word: work.)  I wish they would make it illegal for 'businesses' to use VOIP.  It may be cost effective but, FAR more often than not, it's simply another tool for illegal telemarketers and scam artists.

Received a call from this number this afternoon on my private phone which, like many other people lodging a complaint, is on the Do-Not-Call list.  When I answered, there was a lot of background noise, as if someone was calling from inside their house with kids or something.  The woman asked if Mr. or Mrs. Martin was there. I'm actually not a Martin but I put the phone listing as D. Martin. (This can be amusing because sometimes telemarketers call asking for Mr. Martin. When I ask which Mr. Martin they're looking for, they will reply, "Mr. D. Martin," which automatically tells me they're cold calling out of a phone book.) In the case of this call, the background noise took me by surprise so I said, "Pardon?" The woman muttered something and then hung up. Very bizarre.  When I tried to call the number back I got a fax machine tone. So I kept calling it, again and again and again.  I hope it really annoyed the heck out of someone.  I printed out a page from the FTC's website about Do-Not-Call rules and penalties and tried to fax it to that number but my fax machine doesn't seem to be successfully 'shaking hands' with whatever device is making the tones or the device isn't allowing the full transmission. But that's okay. My fax machine is patient. It will try again and again. <evil laugh>

I am on the Do Not Call list, an.d wish to be removed from this company

We, too, are on the do not call list. I received a call from this number and had dead silence on the other end, but they kept themselves on the line for a couple of minutes so the call didn't fully end and I was unable to use the phone until they did so. Very aggravating and unprofessional. Times are hard and business is hard but sneakiness and harrassment are neither noble nor effective.

Received a call from a girl asking for my husband by 1st name, I advised he wasn't home and when I asked who she was she hung up! Likely these people are having their employees use their own personal phones or a provided non-business phone to get around the "Do Not Call" program.  Clever, BUT not going to get them any business from me!  If you want to do business then be professional and leave your info.

called and did not leave a message. When I called back I got a fax machine......they also Called a month ago and I told them I was on a do not call list and had no chiminey!!!!!!!!

I am on the do not call list.  How is a chimney cleaning service allowed to bypass the do not call. I do not want to get calls from them again.

Same as above; chimney cleaning service. The weird part, though, is that the girl asked for me by name, but my name isn't listed in the phone book. Therefore I'm unsure how she got that info. When I told her we don't have a chimney she said "Okay, thank you" and hung up. I am on "Do Not Call" and filed a complaint w/them.
