Received a text message stating " I like it when you send me this S***. Yes"  I responded "who is this?" and got no response.  
I then called the number.  "This is Brian."
"Did you just send me a text message?"
...long pause...
"No."

I said ok and ended the call.

Everything online seems to indicate that this is not a US area code.  Anyone have any ideas?

Also, I am a Verizon wireless cell phone user in Southern GA.

Calls once a day. No idea who or what this number pertains to. Leaves no messages.

It annoying to keep receiving daily calls from this number. Do we have any recourse of action to stop it?

Its definitly Sallie Mae calling they'll keep calling til they talk to you in person, to get you on recording saying that you will pay a past payment or loan that is overdue or something, if you tell them what you can pay or that it is in mail then they usually leave you alone or set up a payment plan if you dont have it all, or defer a payment if u need to.

This number claims to be Sallie Mae. However I would not do business through this number. I'd make sure to call a legit Sallie Mae Representative. I called the lady I normally speak to and she couldn't give me any information on this number. I wouldn't trust it.

I've gotten a call from this number the last 4 days.  Some are in the morning and some are at night.  I haven't picked up because I screen all numbers I don't know.  I know 776 isn't a Michigan area code and don't really know who else would call.

Calls every morning and every night. As with everyone else, no message, cant call the number back.  When I have answered, it disconnects. Its a pain.  Of course sprint has no call block feature for cell phones.  Any ideas?

I have been receiving a call from this number every night for about a week now on my WORK cell phone.  My work requires I be on call at all times, so I always answer even if I don't reconize the number in case it's someone from home or a number I don't have programmed.  They will answer after about 15 seconds of silence and ask for someone who I've never heard of.  I've told them three times now that it's a wrong number.  I asked them to stop calling me and they hung up on me!

I got a call from this number the last two nights.  I didn't answer last night but my wife did tonight and actually spoke to someone.  They asked for me and she told them I was not available and they said they would call back later and hung up very quickly.

Telephoned three times at 5:30 a.m.  I was at the gym, so did not answer.  I always like to look up telephone numbers that I do not recognize and I see that others have the same issue

Just received a call from this phone and can't find out who or where it came from?!? 776 isn't even an area code....do any of you by chance have student loans from Sallie Mae? I think the call is coming from that company.

Could very well be Sallie Mae.  Just received a call from this number as well, and have back SM loans as well.

I got a call from this number yesterday but I missed the call and they didn't leave a message.  They called my verizon cell phone and I live in Vermont.

I called Sallie Mae after I got a phone call from this number and Sallie Mae told me no one from their company called me.. it is a scam number, someone trying to get your credit card information... be careful!

Just received this call too. (9:29am EST 10/2/09)  I called back and the number is not in service.  Reverse lookup thinks I have an incorrect area code.

My husband and I receive calls from this number at least twice a day on BOTH of our cell phones.  My husband finally answered it one day and the person on the other end immdiately asked for him to "verify" his name and address.  He replied, "No I will not!" and he hung up on them.  DO NOT TALK TO THESE POEPLE!  We both have Sallie Mae loans as well but they have never called our cell phones and they always leave a message on our home phone.
