Telemarketer
A person with little ability to speak basic English called saying he was from Toronto and wanted to fix our computer. My wife kept asking him to repeat what he was trying to say as she could not understand him. He accused her of being racist and hung up. My call display shows the call to be from  778-329-0324 which after checking is listed as a telemarketer number.
Upon checking on www.800notes.com I see hundreds of complaints. I will report this to the "Do Not Call Registry.
I see lots of other complaints about this number, many involving other false services----a total scam !!!!!!!!

Good for you for not falling for the scam!  Microsoft and it's partners do NOT call you unless you have called them first.  More here:

http://www.microsoft.com/security/online-privacy/avoid-phone-scams.aspx

Cybercriminals don't just send fraudulent email messages and set up fake websites. They might also call you on the telephone and claim to be from Microsoft. They might offer to help solve your computer problems or sell you a software license. Once they have access to your computer, they can do the following:

Trick you into installing malicious software that could capture sensitive data, such as online banking user names and passwords. They might also then charge you to remove this software.

Take control of your computer remotely and adjust settings to leave your computer vulnerable.

Request credit card information so they can bill you for phony services.

Direct you to fraudulent websites and ask you to enter credit card and other personal or financial information there.

Neither Microsoft nor our partners make unsolicited phone calls (also known as cold calls) to charge you for computer security or software fixes.

Telephone tech support scams: What you need to know
Cybercriminals often use publicly available phone directories so they might know your name and other personal information when they call you. They might even guess what operating system you're using.

Once they've gained your trust, they might ask for your user name and password or ask you to go to a website to install software that will let them access your computer to fix it. Once you do this, your computer and your personal information is vulnerable.

Do not trust unsolicited calls. Do not provide any personal information.

Here are some of the organizations that cybercriminals claim to be from:

Windows Helpdesk

Windows Service Center

Microsoft Tech Support

Microsoft Support

Windows Technical Department Support Group

Microsoft Research and Development Team (Microsoft R & D Team)

How to protect yourself from telephone tech support scams
If someone claiming to be from Microsoft tech support calls you:

Do not purchase any software or services.

Ask if there is a fee or subscription associated with the "service." If there is, hang up.

Never give control of your computer to a third party unless you can confirm that it is a legitimate representative of a computer support team with whom you are already a customer.

Take the caller's information down and immediately report it to your local authorities.

Never provide your credit card or financial information to someone claiming to be from Microsoft tech support.

What to do if you already gave information to a tech support person
If you think that you might have downloaded malware from a phone tech support scam website or allowed a cybercriminal to access your computer, take these steps:

Change your computer's password, change the password on your main email account, and change the password for any financial accounts, especially your bank and credit card.

Scan your computer with the Microsoft Safety Scanner to find out if you have malware installed on your computer.

Install Microsoft Security Essentials. (Microsoft Security Essentials is a free program. If someone calls you to install this product and then charge you for it, this is also a scam.)

Note: In Windows 8, Windows Defender replaces Microsoft Security Essentials. Windows Defender runs in the background and notifies you when you need to take specific action. However, you can use it anytime to scan for malware if your computer isn?t working properly or you clicked a suspicious link online or in an email message.

Will Microsoft ever call me?
There are some cases where Microsoft will work with your Internet service provider and call you to fix a malware-infected computer?such as during the recent cleanup effort begun in our botnet takedown actions. These calls will be made by someone with whom you can verify you already are a customer. You will never receive a legitimate call from Microsoft or our partners to charge you for computer fixes.

I got call from 778-329-0324. A lady claimed that my computer is polluted with Trojan, and it is sending message to Microsoft server. She claimed that they are not a marketing company, and she wants to assist me to remove the malicious software from my computer.  She was so persuading that she almost got me.
She wanted to access my computer from a remote access software.  She claimed that Microsoft is going to pay me 298$ for warranty. When I refused to give them my credit card number, the one that claimed is her supervisor told me that Microsoft is going to sue me.
They are an organized fraud, and you can hear the others are hacking other people in background.

I just received the weirdest and funniest phone call from "Windows Technical Department". Heavy Indian accent, male, calling himself, Senior Tech adviser, Mr. Sam Watson. (There, I started to laugh out loud.) He started telling me to press Windows icon button at the bottom and R as Romeo together, so he can guide me through to get rid of all the unwanted malicious programs which recently got installed without me noticing and they have received warning signs.

I told this Mr. Watson guy to call me back in 20 minutes because I had to drop my kids off at school. I asked his name again, he spelled it out, S-A-M, W-A-T-S-O-N from Microsoft Windows Technical Department. I hung up the phone, wrote down the phone number which is displayed on Caller ID: 778-329-0324.

While I was NOT dropping off my kids at school, I searched "Microsoft, Tech, Sam Watson" and that phone number and there were TONS of claims for phone scams.

I'm glad that I didn't fall into these ridiculous trick.

They called me yesterday and told me that they are from "teamview" company. He Claimed  the reason to call is that their server is receiving huge errors from my computer due yo its infection by malicious software. They asked me to run some Basic DOS orders(computer language) and they showed me that my system is slow and in danger because it's license is invalidated secondary to viruses. Then the supervisor told me they the Microsoft company fix it for free and the process is that they refund 285$ to my account and then I pay them back (rebuy) in order the process being complete. All technical conversation seemed legitimate, but during the conversation I got suspicious. It was late here for a company to call so asked them where is your office and she told me in Toronto? I said how is the weather and she replied that she does not know because they do not have access to outside? I was constantly hearing background noise from cars and cyclist who hunted for the horn? It is strange in Canada and it seemed to me that the call was from the middle-east. They were talking like people from India! It took 2 hours and finally, after fixing my computer they asked for credit info. I had to fill the money order page and they asked me if i used this card for international issues before? I used a low credit card and it didn't through. They asked for second card and i did, but I told them that I did not use this card internationally too. During the conversation, there were times that my desktop turn into black and they told me it is a part of fixation. Finally, i called to my bank and i realized that someone was trying to transfer money to "United Arab Emirates"! They tried 3 times and each time different numbers as 300$,500$ and 400$. all failed. I called to other bank and it had the same story, so I asked them to cancel my cards. I returned and checked my laptop and I found the money order page which was filled for the receiver. It was neither Microsoft nor Teamview. It was a person named as Subhas Gopal Chandra. I searched google and i realized that this infamous person was graduated In IT and has knowledge to scam people. They established their office in places that is far from police jurisdiction. Now I understand that during the black time they wiped my documents and files, at least. They call with different names and numbers which are not traceable:778-329-0324 and 800-709-4041.

Got a call from 778-329-0324 and a lady tried to talk to me?.. sounded like someone from middle eastern or southern asian background accent?.. At first they called with a blocked number and I asked them to call back in few minutes. Then the call came back with the above number and under the name "maimed".
The lady said she is calling from microsoft and wanted to fix my computer from bugs. I understood right away as Microsoft would never call me to fix my computer this way?but I listened to her for 5 minutes?she asked me to get into my computer and tried to gain access to my machine..I then stopped and disclosed that I understood her trick and the police is taping my phone and will be coming after them soon?.the lady disconnected the phone right away?

Pure Scam?.please report to police and never give them any info...

I owe money to some cash place.  Just had my file bought by some collections.  I figure its them.  If the other comments are true than this might b a method that they use.  Regardless if people start the I know name and heavy breathing and the like one way out of many is to swear repeatedly and loudly an operator will come on the line - report.  I am on the do not call list.  They'd only be so lucky with this type of  /wording.

Got a call from this number this morning at 7:46 AM PST.  When I asked where they were calling from a woman with a heavy East Indian accent said that she was calling from Ottawa, Canada.  I asked her what time it was there, and she said it was 9 AM.  Obviously, she was not calling from Ottawa, as it would have been three hours ahead.  We told her we were going out and would call her back later, but she would not give me the number, and instead said that she would call me back.  We received a call back around 2:00 PM PST from a similar number that ended in 3 instead of 4.  Definitely seems like a scam

Got at least two calls from this # looks like they are running the computer scam now where they ask if you are sitting in front of your computer and they tell you there's a problem with your Windows compute license ID # and tell you to go to My Computer and right click, and twice today first an East Indian sounding lady then a man from the same # called and tried to scam me but I mentioned scam both times and they hung up immediately. it shows the # but says Unavailable also when I try to call the # back it says not in service. so if it's not in service how are they able to use that #? I will be calling my phone company about this.

This guy with heavy Chinese accent claimed that he's calling from "windows service center" to help fix my computer because they're getting many virus infected file repoorts from my computer.  I asked how he got my number.  He said they get registration information on every windows user, but he didn't even know which version of windows.  I have multiple computers, so I told him to get more specific information so that I know which computer he's talking about.  He said only the managers know.  I told him to get manager to call me with more info if they really want to "help" me.

Not sure what's going to happen next week but it seems like there's going to be a problem..
