This company is employed by RBC, If you owe the rbc money, and do not answer your phone because you know it is them, this is their way of verifying that you actually live at that phone# then they really step up the harassing phone calls to get you to pay the measly amount of money you owe them! Beware do not give them any information about yourself, or where you live!! And definitely do not give any credit card information EVER over the phone!!!

Caller said they were from Famtel, calling on behalf of RBC and offering some sort of credit card protection. Very persistent, wouldn't take no for an answer so I basically had to hang up.f

Total Hoax, we all need to be vigilant and protect ourselves from individuals that prey on a large percentage of the population, that is just trying to survive. Perhaps one day we will have the knowledge to stop these Unwanted Preditors !

It has been showing up at least once a day for the last few days. I usually can't get to the phone in time to catch it and they never leave a message. After reading the previous comments, I feel quite safe in activating the "call block" feature on my phone. Thank you everyone!

Keep getting call from 587-8804306. Say they are phoning from RBC but not urgent will call back. Very suspicious. Does not come up as RBC, comes up as Alberta. Sounds like a scam phishing for information.

I'm in Penticton too and I answered it because I thought it was another shaw number too. Sadly, no. Blah blah blah...trying to send me my Equifax report FOR FREE of course and then basically it's a fraud alert on your credit card. It's free for the first month and then just $17.95 each month after...but you can cancel before you have to pay...I will never get that 7 minutes of my life back. Of course, told him not interested 6 times, then he wanted to verify my account. No way!

I keep getting calls from this number and they never leave a message.
SSimpson 2013-05-14 20:40:33 Unknown
I just saw this last comment that this could be a debt collector. I don't actually have any outstanding debts, so I'm thinking it is still RBC??
SSimpson 2013-05-14 20:39:07 Unknown
This number has called me a couple of times this week, but I've never been around to answer it. Just typed the number into google and got this stream of messaging saying it is RBC bullsh*t. I'm a client of theirs and they drive me batty with all the incessant calling. I'll continue to ignore it. I've asked to be off their lists, and they gave me some ridiculous 30 day blah blah blah.

I have told RBC time and time again I am not to be contacted for marketing purposes. If they contact me again I am going to directly forward them to the local CRTC office's number. And lodge a complaint. There are legislation about this kind of thing and they are NOT following it.
As far as the call itself goes: it is NOT a scam as people have suggested. These guys are legitimately contracted by RBC to offer their services. In fact, however, they are not contracted so much as RBC gets a commission for them being allowed to sell their product to you. This is a common thing in the banking world. RBC has a history of shady practices and this is one. Look at their recent IT scandal for another. If I had the option I'd switch my card to TD or CIBC or basically anything not RBC. I am looking into that now.
But to summate: a telemarketer allowed by RBC to call their clients and sell something. If you're an RBC client then this is legitimate but very annoying and kind of shady dealing on their part. If you aren't then this is illegal if you are on their do not call list.
778-383-3383 2013-03-28 02:20:09 Unknown
Hi everyone a common ploy for scammers is to say they are calling you on behalf of RBC, Famtel, take your pick of any valid bank or credit company. They then take your credit card information and rack up all kinds of false charges. And you, naturally, call the valid companies and complain and ask to be put on a "do not call" list. But that does no good as they aren't the ones making the calls of course.
Any one of you could grab a phone book and start calling people saying you represent RBC, BOM, Famtel and ask for credit card information or "sell" a bank service. That is all it is.
NEVER give any information to calls like this and don't waste your breath on calling the financial institution. They can't trace these creeps any more than you can. That is how scammers like these make their money. By the time you have called and complained to the valid company and tried to sort out the mess, they have already racked up charges at yours and the credit card/bank's expense.
Best way to get off their lists? Answer the phone each time they call and blow a whistle into it loudly! I got tired of it and started doing that. My husband still gets frequent calls but me? Never. Guess I'm on the "Oh God, do NOT call her whatever you do!" list and I like to keep it that way!
Ed 2013-03-28 01:42:05 Unknown
It is NOT RBC calling - they get around that and make you think it's RBC by saying they are calling on BEHALF of RBC - it's an independent insurance scam that has absolutely nothing to do with RBC. Any company can insure anything they want without actually being associated with the service they are wanting you to insure.

I've been getting calls as well. I never answer and they never leave a message. I wish they would stop calling.

I normally don't answer phone numbers I don't recognize but this is a local area code. 778-383-3383 # phoned at 1:01pm, I answered, they asked for certain person by name in a little boys voice. I answered and said he wasn't here. Phone clicked over and a man with a deeper voice said he's calling on behalf of RBC and that the message wasn't urgent and he'd call back. I checked call display and # 587-880-4306 called at 1:25pm yesterday. How annoying that this goes on day after day! Oh yeh, listened to my messages, I just won a free trip! I can't wait to go and get free beer!

Total Scam: Caller said they were calling in behalf of RBC and wanted to sell me 'identify theft protection." He'd send me a kit with my credit score (which was mine to keep as a free gift... whoo hoo!) and after a 30 day trial, then a monthly fee of $17.99 would kick in to be billed to my credit card. He asked to verify my name and I said I don't want the service or a charge at a later date he gave up quickly.
This is the third number that this group has used in the last week.
(587) 880-4306
(778) 383-3383
(902) 442-7646
All of these are "on behalf of" RBC.

I just received a text message from this number, they claimed to be Telus texting me to let me know I have a Samsung TV on it's way to me. This is obviously a scam number, I would advise anyone who receives this text to report it to Telus and DO NOT REPLY to the text. just mho.
