Debt Collector
I got a call from the same people, while I was at work.   They said  if I did not send them $400.00 they would
take me to court.  Have me arrested. He said he would talk to my boss.  I told them I would go to court
because I did not owe anyone that money and I would not pay it.
I figured out it was a scam!!!!

Debt Collector
They called me saying I owed money, which I don't.  I knew it was a hoax and they kept calling me.  So, I decided to keep calling them back asking if this was a different law firm and they kept saying yes to all the different ones.  Then they realized I was the same person and called me every name in the book.  It made me laugh out loud!  Anyway, don't send them a penny! It's a scam!!!!!

I received a call from the same number claiming that a lawsuit was being filed against me also and they needed my attorney's information.  I also asked the same questions about who the debt was to and who the collector was, they had no file # on me, and did not answer my questions when I asked, they were quick to hang up. And when they call wanting their money in a week, I will answer and have our conversation recorded also as they did to me. I also will be filing a report!

They asked if I had a attorney readily available because they were taking me to court, unless I paid almost 1,000.00 by a certain time.  They sounded like foreigners, and did not answer my questions, they were quick to hang up and did not give me any details,of what I wanted to ask.  They also told me not to speak to anyone about the matter or what the conversation was about. Also stated I commited fraud and money laundering and would go to jail for 30-90 days, if guilty.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

Whoever  this number belongs to called my place of work yesterday.  The secretary took a message with just a guy name Frank and a phone number.  Have no clue who this is.  I have had a threat like this a year or so ago.  Saying I owed money and I had one hour to send them the money or the police would come and arrest me.  I called the Justice of the Peace a good friend and she told me to tell them to go and fly a kite.

Typical scammer call.  Debt is civil, not criminal, so there are no "fraud" charges.  Please do report the caller to the FTC, FBI and your state's Attorney General.  More info here about this type of scam:
