Credit card fraud.  I yelled at the guy and he told me he was calling the police!  Nice!  Got a call about 5 min prior from an unknown number...probably seeing if I was home or not, and then this con artist called me and I pressed 1 and immediately told him he was breaking the law and that I was on the DO NOT CALL register.  He then told me he was calling the police.  PLEASE call them, I'd love to talk to them.

Constant calls saying they want to lower our interest rate on credit cards.  Even on a card I have not had in years.  I have requested severall times that we want to be removed from their list by pressing 1 and I have even stayed on the line and spoken to a live person and requested removal from their list.  To no avail.  A few days/nights/weekends later.  They called again!!!  They even called on EASTER.  This is ridiculous.

The CID said Private Name, never a good sign.  Just to check, I answered. Nothing. Dead silence, probably because I let it ring more than once.  My phone has a feature of assigning ringtones, and I always add these kind of calls into the phonebook and then select No Ring.  Jerks.

I got a call from this company "Card Services" from Homestead, Florida. 786-217-1944 I pushed the button to talk to the rep. I told him (Andrew) that I was on the DNCL and didn't want to be contacted. He asked me why was I telling him this. I said because I dont want calls. I said I was reporting them to the gov about it. This a***ole told me "Give it your best shot" I said "What?" He then said it again, "Give it your best shot." I said some ugly remarks and hung up. I called the number back on the CID and it told me it was out of service.

Also got a call from this number today but no message left.  For the person who mentioned the Digitone Call Blocker, I love it!!  It works great!!  There are only a couple of issues that I have noticed.  If you are on the phone when one of your blocked numbers attempts to call you it will disconnect you. It also will only block 80 numbers which unfortunately is not enough with all the jerks out there making calls.  It does have a feature that blocks all incoming calls that have their called id blocked which saves me $5 a month on my phone bill.  Honestly without my Digitone I would have just disconected my landline a year ago.

Next time you are speaking with a live person, just tell them " I can't do business with someone I do not even know their name, so what is your name?" Then you hang up. If you get to stay on the phone a couple of minutes, then you can stop and tell them this call has been traced and hang up.

I received one today regarding my eligibility to lower my credit card interest rates. I receive them all the time from this area code for not only credit cards but for automobile repair insurance and homeowner repair insurance. I am also on the DNC list. What can be done? If I press one to ask to speak to a representative and ask them what company they represent I am told all major credit card companies. When I ask that I need the specific name of their company, they hang up on me.

Just received a call from this number afternoon of 3/8/2011.  Recorded message urged immediate response by saying if we want to lower our interest rate to 6.9%, press 1 now.  Probably a recorded message after you press one to take down your personal information.  Identity theft?  Credit card ID theft? Both?

I received a call from 786-217-1944 on 3/7/11. Caller id listed the caller as "Unknown." Caller hung up/disconnected when answering machine came on. I have Panasonic wireless phones that link to a wired-to-landline base unit. But the Panasonic phones will block only 30 numbers. So I'm thinking about adding something like a Digitone Call Blocker or Privacy Call Blocker. According to the literature on these items, they are able to block all calls from an area code the user specifies. For instance, the following digits 800-###-#### would block everyone dialing from an 800 prefix. Has anyone had experience with these Digitone, or other blocking devices that operate in conjunction with your telephone?

The national pandemic of telephone terrorism perpetrated by desperate criminal collection agencies is because they are trying to terrorize people who are naive enough to answer and submit to unsolicited telephone calls or written "collection" letters that have no legitimate legal debt associated with them or any of the companies, universities, or whomever else they claim to represent. Because most "little guys" were bankrupted by the criminal Wall St/Congress/Big Oil/Big Bankers/Big Business/Military/Robber Barons, so the desperate collection agencies are attempting to collect unpaid debts from innocent people by terrorizing them into submission.

Word of advice. NEVER answer any calls you don't recognize or are not expecting. Use selective call rejection service if available, or switch to an Internet-based telephone service which provides comprehensive call rejection options. If rogue calls become chronic, turn off all the ringers on all of your phones except one, and set its volume to the minimum setting. If you don't answer the call and the caller is legitimate, they will usually leave a voicemail after the first or second try. Rogue callers never leave voicemail messages because that could be used as evidence against them if it came to a lawsuit. If you receive a rogue letter in the mail warning you of some "collection" action against you, if you don't actually owe it, reply with a short letter stating that you don't owe it. Or if you do owe all or part of it, reply with something like "You claim I owe you a debt. Under §809 FDCPA, I request validation of this debt."

Only give them your name as THEY have written it to you (e.g. ?John Doe? not ?Jonathon Q. Doe? or however you normally sign your own name), address, and the account number they report. But if you do not owe the debt (zombie debt, aged debt, mistaken or stolen identity, forgery, etc.) state that you have never done any business with them or with the (alleged) original creditor of any kind and you expect the collection agency to close the matter, stop harassing you and take any bad credit marks they've caused off of your credit rating, and furthermore, that any further contact from them must be in writing on their official business correspondence letterhead. Send your letter to them a.s.a.p., always within thirty days, first class certified mail return receipt requested. If they refuse it and you get the letter back unopened, leave it unopened and save it in your files as evidence against them should they pursue legal action against you. If they did receive it and continue to pursue action against you, let them. The judge will throw it out of court. If the rogue collection agency sells your account to another rogue collection agency just tell them the claim has been proven invalid and offer to send them a copy of your letter to the previous rogue collection agency. Warn all your friends about this rash of desperate collection agency terrorism, and how to combat it. Knowledge is power. The more you learn how to combat rogue collection agencies, back-taxes scammers, phishing scammers, and other flimflammers, the more you will learn how easy it is to do.

Above all, keep a record of everything, of every rogue call w/ caller ID information displayed including time and day of each call. Maintain a complete file on any snail-mailed intimidation from rogue collection agencies, including copies of all correspondences and postal receipts. Reporting rogue calls on sites like
800notes.com, whocallsme.com, phoneowner.info is a great idea too, because many people find these sites by googling for the rogue number(s) after receiving calls from them.
