A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers.

As soon as you hear Western Union, Green Dot, Money Gram, Vanilla Card, etc. It is a scam. No matter what they say, and no matter what excuse is given - Real business' DO NOT use wire transfers. None, zero, nada. In case number one, you are asked for an advance fee to get your loan. There is no loan, and you now have no money. In case number two, they tell you it is in case you miss a payment, but they need the card number for their file. There is no loan, and you now have no money. In case number three, the prepaid card is to show you have an ability to pay. There is no loan, and you now have no money.  That's how a simple Nigerian advance fee scam works.

Another call about a loan from guy with thick accent. Some research since yesterday found that the number is associated in some way with Omnipoint Miami E License LLC. It also looks like Omnipoint Miami E License LLC does a lot of annoying calls under various numbers.

At least there's a direct target for formal FCC complaints.

Man with thick accent called claiming to be "Jack Thompson" of Fast Payday Loans. Multiple calls today. During a later call, I asked if I could take a message for the person they were looking for and they hung up.

This man keeps calling my mothers cell phone and saying descriptive sexual things. He called over ten times yesterday. Even left a voice mail being sexual. She even put her boss on the phone that's a male and he told him never to call again that they were contacting the police. Today he called and I answered and said the same thing. He knew her full name, he then asked me if I needed a loan! It sounded as if he was in a call center and he had a foreign accent.
