- i had a gut feeling that this website is not legitimate because half of the message consisted about how to pay the deposit. What I am wondering is how come they still have the website running if this is a scam. The address that "Gayle Datson" provided was the address for Astoria Towers. Could they possibly own some units in the condominium and they are having it rented?

The email you get is from a Micky Glory at micky.glory@rocketmail.com and he instructs you to send via Western Union (SCAM sign) to Deshon Harper in Illinois with a Boston phone number.  he charges deposit etc....

Waste of time and complete scam....wonder if it is possible to alert authorities to this one.

He is still at it. I nearly booked a rental at an apartment on Riverside Blvd NYC. It seemed too cheap, but was very tempting. He wanted 40% of the fee now plus a $200 security deposit. He needed it quickly so that he could send the booking confirmation. The apartment is currently for sale with reputable agent in NYC. My reaction was to be suspicious and my research has paid off. Thanks for all your message. I was coming from UK for 5 weeks and this would have been a bad start to the trip.

This post is a few months old, but it needs repeating. See the words "Western Union"? A 100% sure sign of a scam. Wire transfers are for family & friends (real ones, not the internet ones). NO real business uses wire transfers. If you read the form you fill out at a Western Union office they warn about this. Fake ID? The person didn't need ID to pick the money up in Nigeria. With wire transfers if you have the transfer number, or a name - you pick up the cash.

I am so appreciative of all of these messages.  I responded to a craigslist add, and of course I thought it was to good to be true.  Sure enough it was.  The message was from Dan Lumzy saying the apartment was available and I needed to send pretty much the whole amount to make sure I reserved it.  Anytime anyone asks for so much up front I think SCAM!

Thank you people who are posting here to share their experience. I wish I had read these posts earlier, before loosing $440.
I am from New Zealand, had to book an accommodation in San Diego in Nov. 2013. Just one day before my departure from New Zealand, I found the ad. in craigslist, contacted the guy, and he replied with the heavy accent. Then he send me an email regarding availability of the place as:

Unfortunately I did not have the time to check the originality of this case and reach posts like this page. I transferred the money through Western Union and departed New Zealand. I was in Sacramento for 2 days before heading to San Diego. I called him to ask how can I get the keys, he did not replied. I called him using a blocked phone number, he answered, again with his very unclear accent, told me something happened and the property is not available! He told me he will refund me in three days, but he never did it.

I submitted (online) a complain from regarding this fraud to police.
Does he use a fake photo ID to get the money from Western Union? Western Union should have the access to this person's photo or video since they know when and where did he get the money. I assume that Western Union has cameras installed at their offices.

Any idea?
Thanks
thanks!
thanks!

No reputable landlord/apartment manager/real estate agent will demand payment by Western Union, Moneygram, or any sort of reloadable card (Green Dot, Moneypak, Vanilla).
These scammers could be anywhere in the world.  They usually copy rental listings and photos from the websites of real estate agents.  So the property the scammer lists as being for rent could actually be for sale.

What I noticed and what was "red flaggish" to me, is that he never included a telephone number and then on the website, it was showing a totally different apartment from the one I saw on youtube or any other site for that particular address and unit.  I'm glad I did my homework and went with that "gut feeling".  I swear it just didn't seem right.

This is almost line for line the email conversation that I am currently involved in with Dan M. Lumzy, 820 Common St., New Orleans, LA 70058

I was attempting to rent a condo in Miami for a week, 2 bedroom on the beach for $560 per week, $80 per day.  As soon as I saw MoneyGram I knew something was wrong.  The website that I got this from lists multiple properties in multiple states.  http://paradiseluxuryapartments.co/miami-fl.html

I received a third email with the phone number for the receptionist of the condo:  786-440-6695.

How is this reported to his web host to have that site shut down and to authorities to have him arrested for fraud or attempted fraud?

meandyouhomes.com seems like a scam. All the wording in their emails reeked of it. A high pressure sales situation in which they remind you constantly that you must act asap while withholding information until you make your final purchase... with moneygram. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

I also found "unbelievable" deal for  meandyouhomes@gmail.com.  When I called the number a heavily accented (and a little out of it sounding) man answered "Hello".  When I asked if they were new, because I couldn't find any information about their company he replied "What apartment you want",  I again asked where I could find out more about the company and he HUNG UP.    LOL, not good.  SCAM
