Hi Anon,
Trust me, when I wrote in here that Carter Business is legit, I did not mean to imply that what they are doing to you and yours is legit/legal. You're quite lucky, legal-wise, because they DO exist, so they can be located and they can be sued. So many fake debt collectors can't be found (you can't find something that doesn't really exist) and they keep calling and calling and threatening and doing or saying anything they f*cking want. Good luck in your suit; I'm sure they haven't stopped yet.

I have tried telling them I am not the person they are calling for and then never remove my number. This has been going on for almost a year. After contacting both my carrier, who is now tracking their calls, and to a lawyer I have started logging their calls and as I have told them and tell them on each call that I AM recording their harassing call for a lawsuit and if they continue to call in (what ever call they are at) I will be formally filing suit. They have 2 more calls and according to my lawyer we have a solid suit against them for emotional distress and harassment.
So NO this isn't a case of them thinking they are being dodged or someone "doing their job" it is a case of some prick/c*** thinking they can harass someone into saying they are someone they are not. And a lawyer wouldn't take my case if they weren't a real company.

Well, Boston Bill, not sure if you still come on this site, but I'll post this just in case there are folks who get calls from this number so they'll know too. The reason Carter Business Systems got her work number is because whoever filled out the hospital paperwork probably put a work phone number on there. For the rest of the folks in this thread that are getting calls from Carter Business for people other than themselves, Carter Business Systems is a legitimate agency (licensed too!) amongst the many hundreds, maybe thousands of criminals calling so many out there, and legit agencies have the ability to use a "skip-tracing" system; which has the ability to produce addresses for a person that go back (I'm guessing) 20+ years of history. I'm guessing that because I got a letter from Sprint for my ex-fiance who has not lived in my home for 22 years or so and I haven't spoken to since then. Also, to Boston Bill, I have to say you could be correct about the hospital bill, I think that Carter Business works with a lot of hospitals. Yesterday, they called me looking for $19.14 I owe Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA. I asked the woman if the fake collection scams have affected her ability to do an obviously already unpleasant job she has to do and she said, indeed, they have made it more difficult for them. People are ready to assume every debt collector is scamming you. Well, I am NOT A SHILL, I live 10 minutes away from their office in Wakefield, MA, they do exist. If you doubt this, I believe you can call your state's licensing board and ask if they are licensed to collect. A lot of states don't allow an unlicensed agency to collect in them. I live in MASS and we don't allow it.

Called my wife's place of business looking for me. No idea where they got her work number.
That seems like it could be harassment. I haven't called back yet, but I think it has to do with an ongoing battle I'm having with a hospital.

Somehow they got my cell phone number and have called at least eight times in the past month looking for someone I've never heard of. After I called back and patiently explained that I am not the person they are looking for, nor do I know the person and have not heard of the person, the representative said, "well, what do you intend to do about this bill?" I hung up. I blocked the number but they keep getting through. I contacted my cell carrier and of course there is nothing they can do. Incompetence all around!

Its fine, everyone makes mistakes and numbers get flipped.
The person they are after obviously has been dodging to pay their taxes so they wont respond.
And the debt collectors assume they are being dodged.
Just call, say you are not the person and have them remove the number.
Insulting or ignoring just makes them assume you are that person or a friend of the individual.
-I just did it and a man I assume the manager was more then happy to remove my number.
-They were looking for a "Karen Mediros"
-The receptionist was a little unprofessional but she sounded sick Lol.

Get a message with a unique id # and when I call back they
ask me for my phone number which I refuse to give them. I then
just hang up. I have even blocked their # and they still get through.
Tiresome.....

We keep getting calls from this # asking for a Alan Jackman that i repeatedly have told had never lived here and we do not know. I asked again for them to remove our # from there call list. We'll see. We have also received other calls from different collection agencies searching for this same person.
