A: You put your number out there for anyone in the recruiter genre to call you.
Unfortunately there is no choice on monster to block certain callers. Every time I update my resume, I will get the phone call. I know the risk and let the person know "thanks but no thanks". It would be nice for many job listing sites to allow you to choose or post a "no insurance company recruiters" on your listing. I attempted to do this one time by saying "No Insurance opportunities please" on my resume. I actually got double the calls and e-mails because their software picked up on the key word "insurance" on my resume and I ended up removing all references to insurance on my resume. I do apologize to the insurance recruiters because I was a little unkind to them because they said that they looked at my resume and I went on the attack because I told them my resume clearly said "No Insurance Opportunities Please" in cap. Actually they don't. Most use software that looks at key words you placed in your resume.
B: It is a free country and you did supply that it was OK to call even though your phone number was on a DNC list.
Again it would be nice to have monster notify specific recruiters that you do not want a call from them but monster gets paid for selling your information to them and in the name of capitalism they make the information available to whoever pays. Monster is not a charity. If you do not want the calls, remove your phone number but also remember that it can restrict potential worthwhile callers.
C: Realize you can't personally change the system but you can request that monster can modify their policies on cold callers.
Perhaps have a "No commission only positions" indicator on your resume profile to both save the cold caller time and save you the hassle of having to say no.
Some thoughts to consider...

I just received a call from the same 602 4667337 caller ID states ARS however the return number is 800 203 6009 career builders inquiry. Well Gramham said the same and did not mention the company name either. This is strange, what is really strange is that I decided to google the number and look at what I got. All these responses wow.
RJ 2013-04-12 00:27:36 Unknown
Thanks for posting this information. I got the same call however they went to VM. Now I know not to call them back!!!
lori 2013-03-11 21:45:32 Unknown
You are so right. They tell you you can make $75,000 in your first year and I've been selling insurance for close to 3 years and the only way you make that much is if you get very lucky.
Jennifer 2012-11-27 19:43:39 Unknown
You are so right. That message sounds like it was left by someone who works for the calling firm.
Jennifer 2012-11-27 19:40:52 Unknown
I just got a voice mail from a woman who sounded so bored in leaving the message that I almost fell a sleep. Clearly this is a third party recruiting for an Insurance Company, from notes above sounds like Farmers, and they contact anyone and everyone who has a resume out there and sounds like especially if the resume is on CareerBuilder. Don't get mad at the messenger, unless of course they are rude and won't get off the phone when you ask them to, but beware of companies and positions that have to go to these means to find an employee in an environment that has lots of skilled/talented/experienced workers who are unemployed. Most likely is a position no one wants.
Also, beware of any caller that doesn't disclose the full name of the company or the job position on the voice mail they leave.

Just got a call from these people in response to my resume posted online at Monster.com. The number on my caller ID says 1-602-569-6687; however, the message instructed me to call a different #800-203-6009. This was an immediate red flag. The message was garbled, and the representative named "Michael" said in his voicemail to me that "anyone here can assist you." WTF is THAT supposed to mean? If they call again, I will post more information. *Reminder* NEVER release personal information such as a social security number, date of birth, credit card number, over the phone. Only provide that information AFTER you have received a job firm job offer from a reputable company, and have validated that the company is a legitimate business entity by searching for it on your Secretary of State website, Division of Consumer Protection, or Better Business Bureau website. Get their Federal Employee Identification Number (FEIN). If they don't know what this means, hang up on their a**.

Received a call from Cory saying I made an appointment with him about a job at Farmer's Insurance. This was the first time I had ever talked to this person and I definitely did have an appointment with him. It's sad to think Farmer's has to go to this length to get agents. If you get a call from Cory hang up....

Why are such calls allowed?

Same for me, Farmers Insurance but the nice thing was the offer for all the booze can drunk and "no pants Fridays" or me love you long time Tuesday.
Crying Foul 2012-01-25 19:30:19 Unknown
Pal, you're lying thru your teeth, god help you. No one and I do mean no one starts selling Insurance for any company on the globe and makes $180,000 in their first year. It is simply not true.
I know this because I have sold insurance for over 20 years.

I got a call from whitney stating the same thing all of you are saying but i called back, I got this call about a year ago gave it a shot and called back. Iam now working for Farmers Insurance and i am making over 180k a year. So in the end, its all of your guy's loss. This not only took me out of debt but it also gave me and my family more opprotunities to get out of town and go on vacations. Sorry everyone, im going to have to disagree with all of you!!!!

Same message from a girl named Faith with the same script and same 800-203-6009. Career Builders with a job in Mendota Heights, MN. Also, I'm getting emails and call logs from every insurance company out there!

Ok Natashabe, is this the kind of language or professionalism you represent "farmers insurance" as your employer?
I suggests to use more tact when explaining how the farmers recruit their new prospect, I don't think it is ethical for you to call someone a "moron" maybe they just need someone from Farmers to explain the process more in depth than have you represent them unprofessionally.
You are a "bad" and derogatory reflection of Farmers insurance, shame on you!!!!
Judy 2011-10-11 02:07:10 Unknown
Thank's all, just got another call from this number, glad you all posted comment saved me time! These people should be ashamed of themselves!

Just got the same thing happen to me a while ago, i have never searched a number before but for some reason i did this time. they called on my cell phone at this number 602-569-6692 but they told me to call them back at 800-203-6009. Never said what kind of job is was or the name of the compnay, just said they got my resume off CareerBuilder.
Brandino 2011-09-21 18:12:24 Unknown
Yup, careerbuilder.com resume, anyone can help, call back, name was Faith, sounded cute.
Deanna 2011-09-15 20:41:49 Unknown
Got my call today :-) I agree with Natashabe, while I don't like these calls, when I put my resume on careerbuilder.com it gives them the right to call me.
I have had my insurance license before and you do have to take a test with the state and it does cost money.
Just my 2 cents
crs 2011-06-22 00:03:26 Unknown
I got several of the same messages. They found my number on CareerBuilder just like they find everyone else. I asked to be removed and have not received a call in the 4 days since the request.
Alex 2011-06-06 20:57:17 Unknown
Tessa left message, has nothing to do with resume background etc. They ask you to call back and set up an appointment to become a Farmers Agent.
natashabe 2011-06-06 20:57:17 Unknown
Thank you Frank for stating the obvious. I work for Farmers Insurance and I make these recruiting calls (not in Colorado). I've done this for a very long time and I can't believe how offended people get that we contact them about having a new career. (Especially in this economy when many people have been laid off a job they've had for 20 years and are forced into looking for something new to do.) When you put your info out there on a job board, you're giving "permission" to have potential employers look you over and contact you. We don't always look for "sales" on someone's resume- if they've been a manager, a business owner, in marketing etc in the past, these are strengths required to have your own insurance agency. Farmers is not a SCAM or an MLM- we are just a fast growing, high ranking company looking for QUALITY individuals to represent us.Recruiters or DMs or any employees of Farmers do not make "$200-$300 on each person we con into becoming a potential employee" as Dr Savage said, that's ridiculous. And I wish by the way.
The other thing Dr Savage said about "Do not pay to take the exam" - well you are paying the STATE Dept of Insurance board where you live to get licensed moron, not Farmers. You need to actually have the brains to study and PASS the tests (which many people can't do) and PROVE that you know what you're doing before we will even start training you in our offices. We do not recruit just any Tom, Dick or Harry for this. You get interviewed, you have to prove yourself and THEN we will take you on to help you start a successful business. In that order.
Dr Savage's other comment about "do not give them your SSN!" is also ridiculous. We are state and federally regulated and you want us (Farmers) to go ahead and back you when you are handling other people's social security numbers, money and portfolios and not hand over YOUR SSN? On what planet does the consumer not want to be protected? What a moron.
Thanks for letting me speak my peace.

Yes, another call from Farmers Insurance. Same story as the rest. They pulled my resume off a job board and called my number. I've also received spam from Farmers. This outfit must be desperate to talk to people. Good indicator to stay away.
Ken 2011-06-06 20:57:17 Unknown
This is a call for recruiting for farmers insurance. They are up front when you call back. I do have insurance on my resume but already checked out this opportunity in the past. It's a 1099 contracted position and I am interested in W2 employee salaried + bonus/comm + benefits.
Frank 2011-06-06 20:57:17 Unknown
I really hate stupid people. This is a recruiting company. If you post a resume on any of the major job boards, you give permission to have any of the paid subscribers to call your resume. This isn't a scam. They recruit for several insurance companies. If you don't want a call, put only your e-mail as a contact. I find it amazing how stupid some people are about how things work. As soon as you post the resume it's there for anyone to call.
The main company is Farmers Insurance, a very well know P&C company. You're an idiot.
Dr Savage 2011-06-06 20:57:17 Unknown
Please not that this is a pyramid scam. This company and others like it are not interested in hiring they are interested in administering over inflated insurance test 3 time the cost of doing it your self. They make about $200-$300 on each person the coheres into becoming a prospective employee. Do not go to the interview and do not pay to take an exam and definitely do not give them your ssn!
eric 2011-06-06 20:57:17 Unknown
thanks for the info, very helpful, wont waste my time
AZJoe 2011-06-06 20:57:17 Unknown
Got one today from this number. My resume is on Monster.
Someone gets an override on the business you write so they have the incentive to get as many agents as they can. There's not much you can do about it except check the numbers to find out what's going on before you call.
Virginia 2011-06-06 20:57:17 Unknown
I received a message from someone(name was garbled) that said they had seen my resume on Monster and had a job that would fit my resume in a local town. There was no identification of the company so I went on line to see who the phone number was from. Thank you for the information. I won't waste anytime calling since I work in purchasing/manufacturing and selling insurance has nothing to do with my qualifications.
