When it comes to financial information, personal information, etc.
I don't care who calls you. If they call you __ NEVER answer their questions !
Find out what department they are calling from and tell them you will call them back
at a number you already have in your possession.
By all that's holy---- DO NOT CALL THEM BACK AT ANY NUMBER THEY GIVE YOU !

Only call them on a number from your credit card, check card, bank statement, etc.
A number you know beyond the shadow of a doubt is real.
Being careless and answering questions for some strange voice on the phone that calls
you is crazy and will likely come back to bit you in the azz.
It is much easier to tell them you are going to hang up and call them/the bank back at a number from your card or statement. They will perfectly understand. If they don't understand. Then it is time you
found another bank.
Giving your personal financial information to a strange voice that turns out to be a scammer
or identity thief will haunt you for years upon years later. Where as you hanging up and
calling back on a number from your bank statement or back or credit card only takes a minute or
two and will save you from possible years heart ache.

You never give out personal information to anyone who initiates a call  TO YOU.
Never give out personal information to a voice on the phone who calls you out
of the blue. I don't care what number or name shows on your caller i.d. !

Criminal's / anyone can fake caller i.d. information and cause that fake name
and telephone number to appear on your caller i.d.

It is called ------->>  "  Telephone Number Spoofing "

There are hundreds of websites that anyone can use to do spoof phone numbers.

You can get on one of those websites and make a call to anyone and fake caller i.d.

You can call someone and MAKE THEIR CALLER I.D. SHOW THE GOVERNOR NAME AND
PHONE NUMBER FOR YOUR STATE.

I don't care what shows on your caller i.d. or what the person says. If you did not initiate the call yourself
-- that is, you made the call to the person or business using a telephone number you got from your
billing statement or such.  Do not talk to or give them information.
It is really stupid to give personal information or any information to a voice on the telephone that calls you. You have absolutely no idea who or what that person is !!

You say that you received a letter in the mail. Was that the  U.S. Mail ?

If it was the U.S. Mail you have the perfect opportunity to stop these criminals.
Up to now it's been a low priority for the FCC and they don't do a thing.

The U.S. Post Office has a " mail fraud unit " that will definitely go after these scammers.

If you still have the letter you received and it was by U S Mail;
you need to call your local post office and ask how to contact the postal inspector's
for your state/area.
Tell them about all the fraud and scams of this credit card fraud ' card member services"

How gullible can you be ?

What number ?

The scammers "SPOOF" other innocent companies, individuals, and even fake phone numbers
to appear on your caller I.D.

The number you provided was either fake or belonged to some innocent victim. The scammers
can make any number they want to appear on your caller I.D.

SOMETHING TO REMEMBER-- PLEASE NEVER PRANK CALL THE NUMBER BACK THAT
APPEARS ON YOUR CALLER I.D.
THE NUMBER CAN BE SOME INNOCENT VICTIM'S PHONE NUMBER THAT WAS SPOOFED/STOLEN. YOU AND OTHERS CALLING THE VICTIMS OF SPOOFED PHONE
NUMBERS ONLY VICTIMIZE SOMEONE INNOCENT !

Got a letter with this number on it.

When I called, they apologized for the unclear instructions in the letter. Then asked for my social security number. I wouldn't give it, so they asked for the account number.  I would not give that either, they tried to find my account by my name and zip code and apologized that they couldn't find it. Then they asked me for my social security number again.

I said thanks, I'll take care of it myself. Not sure if it is legit. If it is legit, then it is absolutely terrible customer service.

This is real.  US Bank is changing the dates that they are processing recurring payments.

To make sure, I called the number on the back fo my card first, and they were able to change the date for me, without calling the number on the message.

I too was hesitant, which was why I called the number on the back of my card and asked the phone rep about this phone campaign, to which she acknowledged was the case. Furthermore, I was prompted to change my auto-pay date upon logging into their website. Always better to be safe than sorry.

Legit call from US Bank regarding changing auto-pay date (in my case for the FlexPerks Visa Card).
You are basically instructed to either do so online or with the help of an agent over the phone.
If the call goes to voice mail, don't expect a message to be left, as the call will likely be disconnected.

Totally legit AS I answered the 2nd time they called (after reading this page) THE ONLY info they wanted from me was my zip code to confirm my identity- they knew ALL my other info SINCE THEY CALLED ME. Just changing the auto pay from the 5th-15(?).

Thanks so much for this thread! It sounded fishy, and this thread made me proceed with caution. I FIRST called the number on the back of my card, gave them the number above and it was explained to me that yes, there are some changes in auto-payment and the number is legit. She transferred me directly.

That aside, this is some REALLY POOR customer service, U.S. Bank! A gigantic bank should know that when people call the number they are going to be suspicious if they are at all savvy about scams.

And then, for the privilege of responding to a vague voice mail message, I was put on friggin' hold for an "estimated 8 minutes" but it turned out to be 12. WTF? If they know it's a "high volume" time, why ask me to call back right away?

When I finally got out of hold-music hell, the agent asked for my credit card number, I said I was unclear as to what this was about, and wanted to know first before I gave out that information. She explained what others said about changing auto-payment dates because the lag time is not longer considered enough days (for what I don't totally understand). Had I not been transferred directly from the actual customer service number, I would have hung up because it sounds so fishy! While she was impatient with my clarifying questions, she did say I could also take care of this by logging into my account online. Duh!

This is not a scam. Just sloppy, sloppy incompetence. The message on my voice mail should have been: "Please log into the U.S. Bank website for some important information about your account."

I really doubt this is a scam.  US bank - cardmember services, has been sending me letters about this very thing.  They changed their auto pay date so they need me to confirm that the new date is okay.

This seems totally legit.  Asking to call via the number on the call is also a valid request

Received a letter from "Cardmember Services" instructing me to call this number because we recently tried to set up an autopay and had the wrong date. Called them, the guy immediately asked for my card number and gave me a story similar to what was in the letter. When I told him I didn't have any auto pays that I recently changed, he said, if you're not comfortable giving out your number over the phone you can call the number on the back of your Visa card "or whatever". This is a total scam.

This number is a VALID number for Cardmember Service who handles US Bank FlexPerks Visa Travel Rewards credit card.  I was suspect when I received a phone call and message.  I ignored then I received a letter in the mail.  I called the number and as them first to verify some information and they did.  I updated my Auto Pay info that was being requested.  After hanging up I called number on back of card and they verified the number and changes made in their system.

I also received the letter and called the 877 number on the back of my card. The representative at US Bank told me it was NOT a fraud, but a change needed to comply with a change in the law. The 800-208-7215 is a number they set up to recognize the reason for the call so it can be directed to the proper department.

This looks legit. Check the "messages" portion of your credit card bill and  you will note that there is a request for you to change your pay date. The phone number "800-208-7215" for Cardmember service is included right on your credit card bill.

I received the letter in mail asking me to contact them by the phone number listed or via the web at www.myaccountaccess.com.  The site layout was immediately suspect.  A quick web check validated my concern.  Phishing attempt.  Beware people.

I called the number and made the changes prior to finding this website.  Then I decided to call the number from the bank's website.  The bank verified that it was a legitimate call and yes they are changing automatic payments due to a change in federal regulations.  In fact the changes I had made in the first phone call came up already on the system when I made the second phone call.

Be careful, but this one seems real.

I received a letter in the mail asking me to log on to my account and change my payment date options or call this number.  Clue 1 - Letter has no logo from my bank, very unusual.  When I called the number, someone answered "Card Member Services" and immediately asked for my credit card number.  Clue 2 - how often can you call and not get an automated computer system?  So, I logged onto my account and looked up the contanct numbers listed for my bank's card member services department.  Clue 3 - not the same number and when you call, automated.  At that point I came online and found this site.  It is so disturbing that people will go to these lengths.

I also just received this messaqe. If it was important, I couldn't think of any reason they wouldn't call me instead of sending a text message, so of course I Googled the number which brought me to this site. I won't be returning their message.

Received a call from this number, it was an automated voice saying it was calling from my bank. They had the correct bank name and listed my full name as the intended recipient of the call. The automated call had a number of options you could choose (answer, hold the call to get the intended recipient, identify your number as the wrong number). I've been receiving calls from "Card Member Services" for a while now and they keep trying to get my credit card information. So I chose the automated option of "wrong number".

Card Member Services is a scam, no matter what they tell you it is a scam. Don't give them ANY information.

Received this voice message this week.

"........ Bank has an important message for you. Please call us back at
8002087215 at your earliest convenience. Have a good day."
Unknown caller ID

They did use the correct name of my bank so I called the number. Talked with a "Melissa" who immediately asked for my credit card number. I asked her who she was working for..."Card Member Services". I told her I don't give out my account number on the phone. She told me this message was because "they" are changing how the automatic payments are made so she needed my card number to assist me in changing my payment date. I don't have a balance, so I don't have any automatic payments.

Called the 800 number on the back of my bank card. They told me there was no reason that my bank would be calling me. Forwarded me to the fraud department so I could give them the phone number of who called me. They now have that number on their watch list.
