This phone number left a voicemail stating that it was the Chase credit-card fraud department with instructions on how to call back.

This is a legitimate number. I got a message wanting me to verify travel plans. My daughter uses my card and DID call them about upcoming plans. All they asked was that I press #1 yes or #2 for no.

I was called by this number today to verify travel plans I had reported to Chase yesterday.  (When I reported my travel plans to Chase yesterday, it was only on an automated system.)  After getting the call from 800-214-3236, I first called the number on the back of my Chase credit card.  The person with whom I spoke said the other number was legitimate and that I was being called to be sure no one had fraudulently reported that I would be traveling.  I then called 800-214-3236.  Apparently they could tell from my caller ID who I was because I only had to enter the last four digits of my credit card number; I didn't have to enter my whole credit card number or the reference number that had been on my message.  They asked me to enter "1" if I'd called with travel plans the day before and "2" if I hadn't.  Once I entered "1", I wasn't asked for any further information - only a brief sales pitch for some Chase antifraud product that I declined.

So this appears to be legitimate.l

It is Chase.  Nothing is wrong.  When I informed Chase for my upcoming trip overseas, I received an e-mail and also a call from this number.  There is nothing wrong about it.

Event Reminder
Chase just told me it really is them wanting to confirm travel arrangements that I had sent to them via a secure message on their website.

This is the second time it's happened to me.

I always let Chase know my travel plans.  They used to never do this but now they do.

The rep said it's because there's so much identity theft. I said, "but if I've told you I'm traveling why are you calling my home when you know I won't be there?"  She said, "well now, that's a good question."

It's suspicious.  I again called the number on the back of my card as well to confirm they knew about this number and the call.  They did.

Good grief, if I hadn't picked up messages I'd never know the message was left.  Would they deny a charge while I was on the road since I didn't call back?  The rep said she didn't know that either.

Their reps aren't the brightest Crayon in the box.

It is Chase.  I notified them of some travel plans in October of 2010 via e-mail and they wanted to confirm it.  They DID NOT ask for personal information, just called and asked to Press 1 to confirm that I did call.

Just talked to Chase - by calling the number on the back of my card. It is legit and it is them calling. Supposedly if you answer the call you can just indicate yes or no to verify that you notified them of upcoming travel plans. It's for security so if you get this call and are not traveling then someone is jacking with your account! If you get this call and don't answer then the message you get is to call them back at this number. If in doubt just call Chase customer service. The Rep I talked to said they know this message is causing confusion and she hopes they'll fix it soon.

Hmmm? I, too, recently called Chase to inform them of upcoming travel plans out of the area. Two days later I received an automated message on the answering machine from Chase (or posing to be Chase) asking me to call 800-214-3236 and provide the authorization code they left. I Googled the phone number and found others with the same experience. I called the phone number on my Chase statement and was transferred to security. The representative was able to ID me and confirm recent purchase amounts. He was unaware of any possible scam. He called the number that was left on my machine and said it WAS Chase! NOW I'M EVEN MORE CONFUSED/CURIOUS. He did not recognize the number when I told him and just becasue it was answered as Chase...so what? I'm not sure what to think.

I received a very similar voice message today.  This also came just days after I called to inform Chase of an upcoming trip.  The caller claimed to be Chase Bank and wanted me to call 1-800-214-3236 with a reference number they provided to confirm a travel notification.  Tried connecting to their operator who claimed to be Chase Fraud Services.  I decided to call the number on back of my card instead, and I was told that Chase will send an email to confirm any travel notifications, but they were not aware of any calls being made.  This seems like a scam, beware!

This is a scam !!!!   Had message on our answering machine. Caller had some personal info and wanted a call back to 1-800-214-3236 with a reference number they provided. Said they were from Chase fraud/security department verifying info from a recent contact we had with Chase !!!!

Called the number on the back of our credit card and got transferred to the Chase actual Security/Fraud Dept. and gave them the info. They had not made the call, it was not one of their phone numbers. They  took the info on the fraud call and said never to respond to this type of call !

Also received an automated call from the same 800 number saying are Chase and for me to confirm an upcoming international trip I had discussed with Chase.  This call came after I first had used Chase' automated center and then did followed up with a live representative.  Several hours later, I received this automated call to confirm my trip conversation with Chase, and for me to call their this 800 # along with a code.  I notified Chase immediately.  They said they are aware of it, but there is nothing they can do???

I had the same problem, and called the number on the back of my card, chase says that it is not normal procedure to call you, and they most certainly don't give you a wierd number to call, they would just ask you to call the number on the back of your card

I got this call the day after I had used Chase's automated phone system to inform them of an upcoming trip.  I called Chase at the phone number on the back of my credit card and they stated that this was not a Chase phone number and was a SCAM.  I found the timing of receiving the call very curious.  I made the original call on my mobile phone and make no other request in any manner to Chase.

The voicemail claimed it was Chase Bank and they wanted to verify that I had called them regarding my Chase Visa. They wanted to verify future travel plans, and requested I use a specific reference number and have my account number ready when I call back.
