This company keeps call my cell phone and leaving messages for someone named Earnestine Watson. I have blcoked their calls but they have been calling for months now and leaving messages that say to disregard if I am not who they are calling for. I think I have been pretty patient.

I try calling them to ask them to stop calling and leaving messages for this person but they never answer the phone.

Just had back to back calls from two different operators that left voicemails within minutes of each other asking for Speedway, L.L.C. in an attempt to collect a debt.  I am NOT Speedway, L.L.C. NOR do I own Speedway, L.L.C.

They said their name was:  Complete Payment Recovery Services

This company has been nothing but fair to me. I wrote checks that did not clear my bank and CPRS has been most fair in helping me with this matter.

Calls intermittently says they are CPRS and it's regarding a personal business matter.  When I try and retreive information before GIVING info, they have some "mubo jumbo" legal sounding reason as to why they need me to release MY info.  With so many suspicious and fraudulent collection agengies around if in fact it is a legitimate debt it would appear that the person on the phone would not hesitate to give up the "factual" info to possibly get the person they are harassing to come clean.  Anyway don't owe anyone and if they say they are trying to collect then it's not the truth so I won't be giving up any info no matter what!!

I keep receiving calls in a name I haven't used in 20 years (changed name legally) saying that I owe for a check for Macy's. I advised them that my checks don't have the name that they are looking for. Further, why didn't I receive anything in the mail to reflect this. Wouldn't that be on the check in question. These people are crooks.

The average consumer debt collector employee places 200 collection calls per day or 50,000 calls per year!  How do they make so many calls?  Most use a technology known as autodialing, even though the use of an autodialer by a collector often violates the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA).
The penalty for violating the TCPA is HUGE ? Every illegal phone call carries with it a $500 penalty, and if the collector knows he is violating the Act, the penalty is tripled!

As the name implies, an auto-dialer is a sophisticated computer system that constantly and continuously dials numbers on collection accounts.  When someone answers the phone, the computer immediately delivers the call to a collector, and the account pops up on the collector?s monitor.  So, if you are behind in your bills, you (and your family and your employer) are getting calls from your debt collectors ? a lot of calls!

Not every call using an autodialer is illegal.  Most notably, a consumer debt collector can call a debtor at home using an autodialer.  However, the following two acts violate the TCPA if an autodialer is used:

Making a collection call to a cell phone belonging to the debtor or any third party.

Making a collection call to any telephone number not belonging to the debtor.

Like every rule, there is an exception.  If the debt collector has the prior written consent of the recipient, then there is NO VIOLATION.  For instance, if the debtor gives the debt collector permission to call his cell number, or if that?s the only number the debtor provided his creditor, there is no violation.  However, the debtor can revoke that consent by advising the collector that he has reached a cell phone and that he does not have permission to call that number again.

TCPA violations often occur when consumer collectors contact the debtor?s family members or coworker looking for the debtor.  If an autodialer is used to place the call, there is an immediate violation of $500.  If the collector KNOWS that the number he is dialing belongs to debtor?s family members or coworker, the fine is $1,500 for a single call.  So, if the debtor?s parents get 100 calls from a harassing collector, the statutory fine is as high as $150,000!

How do you know if an autodialer is being used to make calls to you or your friends, family and coworkers?  You don?t, but it is safe to assume that every collection call is using the technology.  An attorney familiar with the TCPA can subpoena the collection agency and acquire account notes generated by the computer system.

Why would a collection agency employ a technology that exposes the agency to huge civil penalties?  The enormous profits generated by autodialing far outweigh the potential penalty when caught.  In other words, it is just the cost of doing business.

My checks and I.D, were stolen.  I notified police, they investigated and I filled out police reports.  Someone forged and cashed some of the checks,  They (collection agencies) write me letters demandind I pay those checks.  I write them back explainting my situation and send them copies of the police reports.  THEY IGNORE ME AND THE INFORMATION I SEND THEM, THEY KEEP WRITING LETTERS DEMANDING I PAY THOSE STOLEN/FORGED CHECKS AND ALSO TRY TO HARASS ME OVER THE TELEPLONE!  Should be illegal but they do it anyway all day every day.

I dearly wish some of those collection people WOULD show up on my doorstep I do have something for them if they want to come and get it-

I left a comment about the number 800 780 4838 and in the message from that number, they said to call this one. I'm not calling either back.

Somehow these two numbers are linked as the OP has stated.

I received a message to return a call to CPRS.  Said it was an attempt to collect a debt.  These people have messages that are conflicting and when you try to abide by one of them you are in default on another one.  They have cost me in overdrafts to my account because of their tactics and would have cost me more if I had not had such a fit with them.  I am still not sure I am in the clear.  Every time one of them tells me my account is cleared up, I get another letter, call, or charge to my bank account, or all three.  BEWARE!!!  They are vultures.

They have harassed us about a pmt that was made to them several times!  We accidentally bounced a check to Staples (yes, that was OUR fault) and called them to take care of it as soon as we found out about it!  They took the money PLUS their fee out of our account and still keep calling!  They debited our account TWICE for the exact same amount (the amt we owed plus the fee) and are now saying that they never received payment!  SHADY!!!
