Subject: 800-638-2500 -- i. Global
My name,
My name is Jay Kaufman, I am contacting you because our company has mis-printed the toll free number (800-638-2500) on a campaign, for a client of ours, who is in the Billing Solutions sector. Over 200,000 pieces were incorrectly printed with the 800# on it. We do their promotions and advertising.
When we dial 800-638-2500, we get an operator message stating, ?We?re sorry, your call can not be completed as dialed???.
To summarize, our Long Distance Carrier stated that the number belongs to i. Global/My Name. They also state that the 800 number may have been placed into ?disconnect status?. Our Carrier said that even though the number was put in disconnect status, the Long Distance Carrier still is required to associate the 800# with i. Global/My Namefor a minimum of four months, and thus, to make any changes or moves, it must be with the approval of i. Global/My Name. My hope was to see if we could mitigate our issue by discussing with you or your team the possibility of transferring your number to us, so that we could give it to our Client.
I have spoken with our IT Manager who has been in communication with our Carrier(s). As it seems, you are amenable, there is an easy process to make any transition occur properly with any Carrier in North America.
I appreciate your willingness to look into this issue.
Regards,
Jay Kaufman

Jay Kaufman of Lawrence Advertising Agency, Stoneham Mass, called to say that he had printed 250,000 copies of a brochure for a customer but had inadvertently placed our 800 number on the piece. He wondered if by any remote chance we could sell the 800 number to him. I did some checking, could not find the company, and then found this site reporting this exact scam by several others except with a different phone number and different individuals (Jonathan Kaplan, Michael Howard). The phone number apparently used earlier was 800-657-7333. Jay called me several times, made a lot of references to his wife and kids. He was good. I confronted him, asked what kind of a scam this was because I couldn't figure his angle. He said he was "confused", apologized for wasting my time, and hung up.
