This is a scam spoke to them on april 26 and ordered a magazine subscription for 29.90 they said I would only charge two payments of that amount and that I would receive a gift basket with an ipod etc. and the magazines would start delivery in six to eight weeks. They also said I could cancel at any time that was a lie, I have talked to numerous "representatives" and was told that they do not cancel subscriptions. Called the number on my bank statement they said they were a part of Hearst Publications and only the fullfillment service, they take orders and send out the magazines only and to call the company I ordered the magazines from to get a refund. All I have received is bills and numerous phone calls from Southwest Periodicals from many different numbers, 2 or 3 a day.

I was told too that I could cancel at anytime...now of course they won't let me!  I have cancelled my card, and also told them I should have my lawyer contact them to get back the money they took from me.  I was told that they would "reduce by 50% the amount I still owed"  I told them to forget it!!!  I have definitely learned my lesson....too bad I had to lose money to learn it!

I have been scammed by this number for so long. I was 18 when this happen and did not know what was going on. I was claiming a price online and didn't know what I was getting myself into. Every month they take 39.90 from my bank account and I thought it was my cable bill and didn't pay attention to it at all until one day I realize there were 2  39.90 payment going out and so I checked back to all the months before that. I got a call from them a few days later and they gave me a number to call to cancel 1-888-299-7302 and they were closed even though it was during "business hour" and so I waited again and got a call from them today since I cancelled my Debit Card and they said I have agreed to make these payments and the total remaining balance is $1085 and that if I want to cancel now they can settle for $581. I was busy so I asked for a Customer Service number and they gave me 1-800-247-1007 and so I googled this number and found this page.I feel sooooooooo stupid.

No payments were ever made nothing! There isn't anything I can do with out taking the chance of paying the full amount! So much for tax money this year!

A collection agency will start with basics like phone number and address.  They will harass you with any means they can.  While it is true they may not be able to report it to the credit agencies without your SS #, that won't stop a collection agency from attempting to get you to pay a reported debt.  Before you get too excited about your new watch that probable will never arrive, you better be ready to pay over $1,000 for the magazines that you have to subscribe to.

The main thing I am trying to say "winner" is that you may be the "lucky whiner" if your experience is anything like the rest of ours.  So far we have told these people to cancel our order over 5 times now and it looks like we will have to close our credit card account and report the charges as fraud since they refuse to refund the $49.90 they hit our card with.

PS-we never did see the $250 gift cards or the $1000 food voucher.

I received a phone call and a text saying that I won a target gift card of $1000. I had to go through promotion after promotion to get that. Half way through that, i quit trying to get because it seemed a little fishy. I cannot believe that I have become a victim in a scam. I really feel stupid.

First you post your request on a PUBLIC site that has NOTHING TO DO with the crooks who called you. Then you also post your phone numbers. On a PUBLIC site. Because you don't want more PHONE CALLS.

And you wonder why scammers never fo away. People like you are a scammer's wet dream!

Please cancel my subscription for the magazines I am receiving for $39.90 monthly. I have been receiving numerous telephone calls on my home phone, 239-573-8830, and my cell phone, 239-940-5233. The representatives state that they are making it a curtisy call and I keep stating I am all set. The calls keep coming and they just do not stop. The phone numbers that are calling me are 320-315-4605 and 719-302-5883. I am considering these calls as harrassment and therefore  no longer want to continue with your services and company. If I have to, I will file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the President/CEO of your company. I expect a response to this message through my E-Mail account which is lyndapowers@yahoo.com and it will be done IMMEDIATELY!!!

suspicious claiming to be southwest periodical services trying to sell me magazines saying that I won something and in order for me to get what I had won I basically had to get these magazines imagine that, at first they acted as though they were new to this and was hinting at more information from me and would let me talk to there supervisor who just seemed as though she was standing on top of this person and handed them the phone. Then she started out with this magazine thing of a huge list and I informed her I was not interested in purchasing any magazines and then she more or less rudely hung up. To make a long story short there phone number is (404)- 902-5814 for how long I do not know.  I feel that this is a scam of some sort to get your personal card information and things of that sort. After typing this in I just know realized the phone number is different sorry, but I am sending you this in regard to what I have received if you have any further questions please post.

Speaking of idiots, what a foul mouthed, pointless, semi-literate rant.  I gather this is a grotesque attempt at shilling for a subscription service scam?  Get back on the phones or you may not make your quota for the shift.

READ You're all f****ng idiots. My god. READ When you order a magazine subscription; on your own; your name automatically goes on a list with your address, which magazines etc. Say you order a National Geographic subscription, for 2 years- that goes in a system with National Geographic, you then have 3rd party campaign companies who BUY these lists from whichever magazine companie, and then they will call and call and call to renew your subscription; whether with a discount or a "gift" (Gift vouchers, Gift cards...or whatever they have to offer). So, when a few of you who have called "National Geographic, orGolf World", whichever, and they told you it's a scam-they're the ones' lying, they don't want you to know that they SOLD your information to a 3rd party company. They ALSO, use the 3rd party companies to market their magazines. So, the actual company (National Geographic) not only SELLS your information, they also continue to profit from the 3rd parties, as they receive money for the magazines themselves.

I have dealt with these people before. I do order subscriptions, but I am fully AWARE of the entire operation, as I didn't (like everyone here) want to get screwed.

Basically, if you like to read magazines; like to keep them coming; some companies allow you to change them without charge, and provide you a list of what they carry. SO, have them explain the entire service to you, SLOWLY, have their supervisor explain the service. UNDERSTAND your rights: The entire conversation is recorded; as by law, electronic payments by phone HAS to be recorded, and you HAVE to agree to the terms and conditions in order for the contract to be legitimate. You are initiating a CONTRACT by phone, so understand the entirety of the service before agreeing. This is the magazine callers operation in its entirety. This is EXACTLY what they do, how they obtain your information and how they operate. I am in no way excusing the S**T customer service some of you are stating on their end. Just want everyone here to be able to make an educated decision, and to go from there.

Received a text "Your entry last month WON! Go to BestBuyContest.com and enter your winning code 7482 to claim your FREE $1000 BestBuy gift card within 24hrs" I never entered any contest. when I followed the link, it has said "complete two sponsorships to receive gift card. I closed the web browser with never giving any of my information to them. close to a week later, I recived a phone call from  Southwest Periodical Service claiming I had to subscribe to their service for my gift card. they swindled me into it claiming it was a 18.95 monthly fee. I was charged 29.90. I called to complain, they aid it was a TWO MONTH charge and I wouldn't be charged the following month. however, one month later, 29.90 hits my account. I called for a refund, and they refused saying it already posted when in fact my bank statement AND my capital one customer service rep said it has NOT posted but was infact still pending. I must wait until its posted to file a claim.

I just got the call today, I remembered I had filled out a rewards thing online and didn't complete.  When they called me and told me that I had entered the rewards program online I thought immediately it was for that I had started but didn't complete.  I first talked to a Betsy and then got transferred to a Leana, both talked about the $1000 best buy gift card, the $29.90 for the 5 magazines, a free ipod, and got entered in the 1 mill sweepstakes.  Like a stupid fool I said yes, gave them my cc # but declined my ssn.  Did anyone else accept it?  I got online after I got home and found all these posts saying it was scam. Please help, was I scammed cause now I'm freaking out!!!!

They may send it to collections even though this is a fraudulent charge. The only defense I can think of is to report this fraud to as many places you can (FTC, your state AG, your local police, etc.) and retain all the complaint paperwork including bank records so you have some paperwork in hand should collections come calling. You do know you have to replace bank accounts because they or someone else can charge again in the future, right? Best of luck. I don't envy the position you're in.

This company is a total fraud, not only did they scam my elderly mom. They are scamming hundreds if not thousands of people, from surveys to text messages into buying $1197.00 in magazines. If they have called you and threatened you: call your bank FRAUD dept. tell them you dispute the charges, and then CANCEL that card you gave the information for, and order a new card! Or they will continue to charge you. Don't fall for them saying they will cancel it and refund those charges, because they won't. USE YOUR BANK to stop them!
