This is not a SCAM, this service from this TOLL FREE number is NOT going to change your providers. Calls from this NUMBER are only to provide you with a ENERGY CONSERVATION KITS at NO CHARGE that will help you save ENERGY AND MONEY...this is NOT A SCAM. As part of the ENERGY PROGRAMS provided by your providers they offer these ENERGY CONSERVATION KITS, however even if at NO CHARGE they are not allowed to mail them out without approval therefore you are bring called for permission to mail them to you. THAT IS ALL!

This is a SCAM!

According to how my electric company explained: The caller, who will claim to be calling "on behalf of your electric company" (and even name said company), will offer you something free, like a money-saving package or savings on your electric bill. They will then ask for a bunch of information about your electric service, account numbers and whatnot, and sign you up for a different electricity provider without your consent. Your service is then at the mercy of this unknown new provider and you're subject to the new company's terms and rates.

If you ask what company the caller is actually part of, they will refuse to divulge that information and rudely hang up.

Do not give these scammers any information!

They called me today claiming to represent the Illuminating Company (power company in NE Ohio).  They wanted to send me a "free kit" of some kind consisting of light bulbs, a power strip and who knows what else.
I didn't talk to them long enough to find out whether they're legitimate or a scam.  I do not like telemarketers calling me for any reason.
