Almost 37 million phone numbers get recycled each year, a 16% increase since 2007, according to the most recent figures from the Federal Communications Commission. That means with more and more people going cellular, it is increasingly common to get calls intended for previous subscribers.-Wall Street Journal article-

Probably some previous customer had your number.  I am curious because I have gotten 5 or 6 calls form this number but have never been asked to press any key to continue, it just plays the message 2 times.

Autodialer called my cell phone from 800-255-4268 with a message that "Alliant has an important message for you, please press 1 to continue..." I have never given Alliant my cell phone number.

I hung up. I've owned this home for the past 12 years and have no outstanding debt with Alliant, and in those 12 years, they have NEVER called us on our home phone OR cell phone numbers.

If they need to notify customers about ANY notice, just include a note in the monthly statement--which they email to me. In fact, for expediency, they could simply send a note via the email I provided them for the estatements. They include other notes. Why not this?

However, if they are calling due to an urgent need or emergency regarding our safety in our home connected to Alliant Energy, then the auto message should SAY that. Instead, it appears from the other comments here that Alliant is using this autodialing service to tell us something mundane such as trimming trees and if so, trimming would have been a scheduled activity, such that they could send along the information in the monthly statementand/or via email which I provided. In fact, email is also a fast way to get info to me without violating my privacy by using a number I did not authorize them to use. Hmm.

Get it right, Alliant. Don't contact customers outside of authorized access/contact info which we provide you, and don't bother us with autodialers that tell us nothing--how do I know what you're really doing when I'm required to press "1"? Sure, it's probably just to "auto" confirm that you reached me, but I don't know that. Respect your customers and our wishes in the ways we wish to receive communication.

Recorded message about intent to trim trees around power lines. No problem. Even if there isn't a tree within a block of my rented apartment. :-)

This is Alliant Energy's inbound customer service number (1-800-ALLIANT = 1-800-255-4268).  For me, it was an auto-dialer call that left me a voicemail.  They were calling to tell me that they would be replacing transformers in the area and it would cause a brief power outage.

Received call from 800-255-4268 on October 26th at 11:36 am.  I just got the phone on the 25th.  I think that the company is tracking the person who had this number previously.

I think it is very inappropriate for your collections people to call neighbors and ask if they still live in a home, or if they have moved out.
I don't need these kinds of calls

....also...in regards to calling nieghbors...the nieghbors are being called to see if there is still anyone residing there before a disconnection were to happen that may affect the residence over the winter months.AE does have to do this because the WI Public Service Commision says they have to in order to establish that the home if vacant has been winterized to prevent damage from freezing pipes.

Well number one Alliant Energy doesn't have the right to invade others privacy by calling others homes. Its not right for them to be called as if they are baby sitters. Its not hard to notice if someone lives in a residence. They have to go to the house to end the power connection its just laziness let's pay our drivers/electricians some real good money but let's not make them earn it.(Note if a doctor has to go in for surgery he can't just open you up and expect to know what's wrong with you and know exactly what to do. No he has to study and figure stuff out on his own u may think this is a weird relation but they are the same in any job to the aspect of don't bring others or your personal life into your work.) I think they need to do something better with the Alliant company bc I'm billed and never receive my bill this is the 5th month in a row where I'm going to have to ask for another bill because I just got a voice mail saying I need to call within 24 hours they can tell me over and over the date its due on but just like others don't like to pay for things that I can't see what I'm billed for. Again I've asked the mail lady who comes straight in the truck, who has actually looked in the truck for my bill but have yet to receive one unless I call and ask for my bill to be resent and the people on the phone don't care they say you can pay or be disconnected. Ill receive a bill after I ask to resend so I know they have my address. Just be careful because I feel like its an easy way for them to get not only the deposit but the re connect fee
