Just went to check on our daughter's house, that is for sale, and found one of those notices on the door.  VERY unprofessional, very illegal; not a legal message of default, by any shape of the imagination.  I, being the Mom, want to call the number, and give them a piece of my mind!!!  Wells Fargo is the crappiest mortgage company out there!

The notices on your door are common. If you are behind or in default on your mortgage they send out inspectors to take pictures of the home to make sure that it is either occupied or vacant. They will also hang what they call door cards with reminders to call the mortgage company. I know this personally since I do this for a living. You have to understand that they want to make sure that you are not going to walk away from the loan. There are many homes that this does happen to and without inspectors that go out to the property they would never know if the house is vacant. Also there are several people that ignore all calls from these mortgage companies and never call them back to let them know when payment will arrive or whether they plan on just walking away from the loan.

The cards are legit, you have it right, I'm one of the people, working as an independant cvontractor, who delivers these door cards. We do not know anyone's particular situation, we're just doing a job.

My wife received the same note from a man that approach her while she has standing outside our front door.
The man did call her by her last name, which made her think it was legit. She called the number 800-284-4322 and she got a machine answering Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. She was asked for our loan number- which she didn't have at the time, so she said she would have to call later. I called our Mortgage Agent and she did a three way conf call with the bank. My loan is current, although the payment was 25 days late due to a mistake on the checking account number. The bank rep said he didn't recognize the 800 number in the note and that I should just ignore it since my loan was current. Then I started to worry about identity theft and decided to call the number and start asking questions without giving away any personal information. It turns out the number does belong to Wells Fargo, but a different department (it appears they handle distressed Loans or something like that) the rep explained they hire these so called "inspectors' to visit houses and make sure people still live there. Again, my loan is current, so nothing to worry about. But she explained that if the loan is late 15 days it triggers a series of notifications, letters, phone calls and after 25 days, they send it to these inspectors. I assume the "inspectors" are a third party company that provides these "services" to different banks. That would explained the note without company letterhead. I still think is a very rude and old fashioned way of conducting business. I can understand sending an inspector if the loan is 6 months late, but 25 days?
Hope this helps

Received a flyer on my door which stated to call the number.  I contacted Wells Fargo but they were unable to verify if the number is theirs or not but the gentleman did pull my account and confirmed there are no notes attached to my file and that I am not behind in payments.  Basically, Wells Fargo has no information on this number, or at least that is what I was told.

I came home this afternoon to find the exact not on my front door. I gogled the number and found this site. I stupidly called the number and a recording came on saying it was wells fargo and asked me to enter the last 4 of my social. I hung up. I emailed the guy who helped me mortgage, and refinace my home(he's great) ilet him know about the letter. I am awaiting a response. I also called my father about it. He though it was a scam. I have only been concerned cause I'm with wells fargo and am behind on my mortgage. Although I I haven't received a single letter about being behind or a phone call. Also I paid all but $200 of what was behind 2 days ago in person at the bank with cash. There was no problem making the payment and the teller said nothing beyond the usual. So I'm thinking its a scam but will probably call the bank in the morning to be sure.

That's weird, I got the exact same letter on my door this morning.  I did a google search and found this page.  This has to be a scam of some sort?  I can't believe well fargo would have a door to door salesman.  I'm not calling the number.

Found in an envelope that was hung on my door with "CONFIDENTIAL" written on it. Anyone could have placed it there at any point of the day when no one was home. "Call your mortgage company at this number" was printed out on a crudely cut out piece of paper. Phone number was written on a line. Do they not even know my mortgage company? Could this not also have been printed?
I am under no obligations to follow instructions from an anonymous note hung on my door. My mortgage company has my phone number if they want to speak to me. Seems like someone gained access to information they shouldn't have. And they are attempting a scam with it.

Here's what to do.  No need to turn up the heat on yourself by avoiding them or being rude.  At say 8:10 am every single day when they are just planning a few rude remarks for the day and drinking a little coffee, call and politely say: This is [your name], I am calling in for the day at a time that is convenient for me.  I am required to advise you that this call may be recorded so I will have a record of what is said and in what tone.  I still intend to send you x amount every 10th of the month until caught up.  Is there anything else I can help you with today?  (There will most likely be total since on the other end.)  Ok, well I will talk to you tomorrow, have a nice day.  I'll bet you the amount of your default they will soon tell you, not to call and bother THEM all the time. CASE CLOSED.

The 800 284 4322 has been replaced by  1-800-934-9998 ,  1-800-678-7986,  1-800-477-8553, 1-708-112-3773,   1-866-234-8271,   1-866-359-0172, 1-866-234-8271,  1-800-288-3212, and so on and so on..... do not expect a straight answer. I received a computer call telling me to call 1-800-551-9809. The number that I was given to call them back at was 1-800-551-9809. The problem is that my call notes said that the # the call from was the 1-800-551-9809 so I called back on the 9809 number to find that the number was disconnected. Wells fargo said to ignore the call, it was just a computer call mistake....Superior creditability on their part and a failure on my part trying to return a call as requested by the Wells Fargo........?

Wells Fargo is my last choice for future mortgages. I currently have two mortgages with them, one is a rental property.  I?ve had the rental loan for 7 years now. I?ve never had to pay a late fee. The tenants have until the 5th to pay, so I send out the payment to WF on the 8th. I have until the 15th according to the loan docs. Since last year they call my home at all hours, weekdays and weekends to harrass me until they get the payment. They wake up my toddler and interrupt our family dinners. Whenever I talk to a rep, they are rude and condescending.  I am outraged!

I recieved the call twice one day last week and left automated message on my machine. When I called the number Friday, it sounded like it was Wells Fargo. However, I'm not sure. The automated system asked me to enter my loan number. I didn't have it. So I entered the last 4 digits of my social security number (probably shouldn't have done that). Then they connected me--except they hung up! There was another recording, something like "We're sorry. We are unable to connect you at this time." How annoying!

I have a WF Home Mortgage, and have no idea why they were calling me. Sounded like fraud, but I was only a guessing.

But! I just got off the phone with Wells Fargo. Their automated system did call me. My payment was late, but still in the 15-day grace period. It was a courtesy call.

Turns out the call was actually from Wells Fargo. IN the future, I'll just ignore these calls if I have already made my payment

They left an automated message, and when I called I had to go through three menus to get a person, and then they asked for validating contact info (I assume because they are the collections dept.). They had called about a late mortgage payment that was actually not late (similar to the statement above).

automated call from wells fargo collection dept.  don't freak out when you get hung up on!  I got the call 2 days after the due date of my loan and they had already received payment so you don't always need to call them back.
