I received a call from a Ron Westburg, criminal locater working w/Jefferson County, Texas.  The contact number he left on my voicemail was (800) 298-7151; however, the number he called from was for the Sherriff's Department.  I spoke w/ an officer and reported this matter.

According to the Federal Trade Commission, it is illegal for a collection agency, etc. to contact you and inpersonate someone else.

I am over these collector threatening, lieing, and badgering individuals to collect a debt that wasn't even made with them.

Don

I checked with law enforcement and attorney general about this.   You guys are scanners.  In fact someone pretending to be a process
server called me today..and half through the conversation claimed he was a private investigator.   The number that showed up on my caller ID was the drug task force division of the local Sheriff's office.  Needless to say..."Roy" was full of it.  By the way you may want to check the law when you're running this scam.   If someone is guilty of a criminal act...they're arrested not served with papers.

I spoke with this idiot today...He is so full of crap..and uses illegal tactics to try to scare you into paying a debt you don't owe...I finally got him to tell me that he's Canadian.  I filed a complaint with the FTC and contacted local police after the guy kept calling me and threatening me and my family.

I suggest you do the same...

I, too, received a very threatening call from this Littine guy. He told me was a licensed private investigator and gave me his license number to confirm it after I questioned him about his identity. He went on to seemingly interrogate me, accusing me of criminal activity which was disturbing to me as well as being a bunch of lies, called ME a liar, etc.,swore at me, and indicated I'd be in jail shortly after I refused to give him the answers or the money he was trying to get . I was at work and reported the incident to police who came to see me and really helped me by what they told me. I also reported it to my lawyer and will be filing complaints with the FTC and other appriopriate agencies.

these people called me in dec and did the same thing.  i was scared and gave them the first payment then after hearing about these scams i decided i was not making anymore payments.  so he robert stern contacted me again and left me a message stating he didnt understand why i wouldnt make my final payment of 100 dollars. ummm the first call i owed him 800 now after my 200 dollar payment i only owed him 100.  So when he called me later i questioned him on it that is when he called me an idiot and to stop being a slug and pay my bills. One week passed and i got a call which showed up a local number with some guy saying he was going to be at my house with a police officer and serve me with papers so i said ok bring it.  Never showed two days later i get another call and a message he was an officer at a police dept in the next county and he was going to be at my job in a few hours to serve me papers.  So i looked up the number and  it  was the number for the sheriff dept.  I called and asked for the officer  and there was not any officer by that name working there. and not one employed either.  The lady at the sheriff dept said to go to my local police office  and file a complaint because they where impersonating a officer of the law.  i did that and when i called the number for the court commissioner which he left in his message i told him i was on to his game and that i filed a complaint with the  local police dept and he went on and on  how stupid i was and said how i cant file a complaint because i am a low life and i dont know what i am talking about.  i asked him his commissioners number and he said i was a joke.  i replied to him he was the dumb a** who called with the number for the sheriff dept from the wrong county.  and i dont think he belived me about the police dept  compliant i filed welllll not until the officer called them as i was sitting right there and told them he was officer ***** from this police dept and gave his badge number and the phone number and said call and verify that.....  then told robert stern that if he wants or has the means to take me to court do so but not to ever contact me again unless it is through the court system

These people called my job today and somehow got my supervisor.  He was told that I had committed internet fraud from my job and that they were coming out this afternoon to serve me papers. They said they were coming with the sheriff from my town. My supervisor told them that I had not committed any type of internet fraud from work because of the filters we have in place. It was impossible.  He was told that they had our ISP address to which he told them that was not true. After arguing with them for a few minutes he was hung up on. He then called them back with me in the room and asked what the company name was and Where they were located.  The man would not gave him any information because my boss would not tell him who he was. He then hung up. Within 2 minutes the called back very angry and asking why he was all up in my business to which my boss told them that they were the ones who had originally called him. He told them that they were breaking the law by giving out any information about me to him and that they should ask for him when they arrived at my job and he would have them speak to the police officer on duty at our business.  The man Ronald Westbrook then hung up on him.

Wow, I cannot believe the tactics that some of these so called, "collection agency's" will try just to get some money. It's hard for me to believe that Jackson Greenburg is a scam simply because of their persistance and they have to be getting the bad debt information from somewhere. I received numerous calls from them regarding the debt of a relative. I told them over and over that the number they were calling was not a contact number or the number of the person they are looking for. They were speaking to me as if I were the debtor, telling me that they would be contacting the D.A.'s office and a sherriff will be sent out to arrest them, so I had better have them call. Later the same person called, (I recognized his raspy South Bronx voice), and said that he was calling from the sheriff's office! That has to be against the Law... and again why is he calling me??? After numerous calls from them day and night I sent a certified, "Cease and Desist", letter to the P.O. Box that he gave me. Surprise! it was returned, "NSN", (no such number). I called my attorney and haven't heard from them since.
Suggestion: If you don't want to get an attorney involved just change your phone number.

The idiot called me as well, last week left nasty message on my phone. So I called back today and I must say, he is good, very good. He scared the s**** out of me and ruined my day. But, he slammed the phone down in my ear after not giving me a chance to speak. I called back and then after all the threats, says he give me till 2pm tomorrow. The only thing is, a few of his assumptions were way out of whack and didn't add up. Something told me to check him out, and voila, here he is. the same Mr. Lattine, from Commission Financial Affairs, the Criminal Complaints Division. He's previous message stated a different company.
What is scary is the amount of personal information he has. However, he will regret all of this!

Realist, I'm charitably going to assume for now that you're not one of the criminals running this scam, but merely an uninformed bystander. You misunderstand what is going on here. These calls aren't from legitimate creditors seeking payment of legitimate debt. They're from con artists trying to frighten/intimidate people into paying money they don't actually owe. Many if the callers are overseas.

Encouraging innocent victims to pay money they don't owe ? especially when the money goes overseas ? will not prevent this country from "going down the sh*tter". Quite the opposite, in fact.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

My parents received one of these calls in my name. FDCPA states that collectors cannot release details to 3rd parties and this was info left on an open voicemail message.  If they can mail me proof of a legitimate debt I will pay it to the company owed.  But they will not intimidate me.  Any legitimate agency does not use this tactic. Check out Dave Ramseys tips on dealing with collection agencies.

The calls that are coming from this number are complete fraud, if a so called police officer shows up at your door, call your local PD, they are there to help you!!!

they do collect on debt and are a legitimate company... they will verify any information needed to prove so. I paid my loan off and my name was cleared. I was given a paid in full receipt and I even checked with the original creditor to make sure my money went towards that debt. I suggest you take care of your obligations, and then these "harassing" phone calls would go away.

I lie to people, I will call numbers that you put on your payday loan application and harass people to pay. Then when you dont pay I will tell you that you have committed a crime and fraud and scare you into thinking you will go to jail. I like to do this because I have so little authority in my life that i have to harass people less fortunate. PS. You wont go to jail, i just want to collect money cause I make a good commission on monies you owe on payday loans you have defaulted.

Sounds like The School of Sears & Roebuck Debt Collectors strikes again?.LOL!!

Don?t respond to them at all as it won?t do any good.  You can?t reason with people like that and doing so wastes your time and energy.  Life is way too short to get upset over it!!!

I too am on the call list and I don?t answer.  I don?t know what the solution to stop the harassment but if reporting them to the FCC, States General Attorney, and the police department, then that is what I will do.  I will NOT, however, speak with them.  It?s pointless.  I will NOT give them any information and I will certainly not pay them ANYTHING!!!  They called my friends and family and left the same message that you all have received.  No one pays any attention to the caller and they hang up on him.
