I received an email this morning from the Coastal Community Bank that reads...

"A failed attempt has been made to complete your Forgotten Password Validation Information and this is why we have deactivate your debit card.If you did not attempt to change your password, and you want to activate your debit card please contact Coastal Community Bank at
800-319-9658 ."

I have no debit card with this bank, so it is clearly a scam.

The email I got also claimed to be from Coastal Community Bank, telling me my debit card had been "deactivate" due to invalid password recall attempts.  Of course I have no account with the bank that purportedly sent the email.

On a whim I just tried calling the number.  As far as I know there's no danger of back-charges from an 800 number. As of 19:00 Pacific Time 12/17/07 the number has been disconnected, so they've pulled up stakes and run for it already.
