I was called at 4:45 am , and asked to please hold 3 times. This really scared me as I have a daughter with severe health issues. I called the number back and asked to speak to a supervisor and was put on hold for 15 minutes, then I gave up. How do I stop these calls
CITI Cardholder 2012-09-30 14:47:03 Unknown
This call came right after (within 2 mins) I spoke to the Fraud Activity Detection Dept. An automated response came right after I answered the call, "Please hold. You have an important message." It repeated the response and then it ended the call. I never talked to any 'real person' but got hung up.

the question is really after getting that call have any of you people noticed actual fraud on your account? Why would they verify some dumb charge if they were trying to scam me? They didn't ask for any information so I don't see how that phone call would have helped a scammer anyway.

This is the Citi card fraud department. They left a message today that they wanted to verify some charges. I called them back on the regular # on the back of my card and verified that I did not make any purchases at all today. I am glad they are paying attention. I agree with the others though, I would call them back on one of the main #s just to be sure it is valid. You can never be too careful.

This is a VALID call from Citibank's Fraud Department (Early Warning). They only confirmed my name, and asked if I was aware of a specific charge to my Citibank Aadvantage Mastercard, that they then identified by the charge date, the charge amount, and the name of the vendor. After I confirmed the charge was legitimate, they asked if the card was still in my possession, which I confirmed, upon which they thanked me and the call was concluded. Never once did they ask for my card number.

I did not call the # on my phone. I called the # on my credit card and the girl verified that there was a fraud alert posted and that my card may have been compromised. We closed out the account and she sent me new cards, express, 24 hrs. Thanx Citicards

I got a call from this number and on a whim called the 800 service number on the back of my AT&T Universal/CITI card. Customer service confirmed my card was busy at a couple of Walmarts in Minnesota. I just E-signed off on the Declaration of Unauthorized Use and the Receipt of Confirmation has just popped up in my email box.

Just got a call from this number. Didn't answer, but I don't even have a CitiBank card.
Hector 2012-01-31 16:13:28 Unknown
They called my cell, I didn't answer. While the phone was ringing I googled the number and came to this page. Read that it was Citi. As I was doing that they called my office number so I decided to answer the phone. The girl was very nice and she just asked me to verify a purchased I had made since I used my card to buy something but I put my friend's name and shipping address.
Nice of them to verify.
Kutty 2012-01-19 22:52:56 Unknown
It is citibank- they verified some charges. THEY told me the charges and i just said yes or no......
EPD 2012-01-18 13:02:19 Unknown
It is a computer verifying that your number is working for Citibank Fraud alert. This is why they don't leave a message and rings at strange times of the day & night. Call the number on the back of your card to see what's up.
Jeff 2012-01-17 20:46:19 Unknown
This is from Citibank. It is valid. I know "anonymous" will post a warning after this, but the fact is, they just wanted to verify a single charge. They asked me about the charge, I said that yes, it was mine, end of story.

This is a VALID call from CitiBank Fraud Prevention Early Warning system. When your account hits a fraud queue, it could be for any number of reasons; for example: an online purchase that you might have never made before, or an out-of-state transaction that is unfamiliar. For YOUR SAFETY and to be PROACTIVE, the computer automatically sends the pending authorization to the bank Fraud Department and they will call you at the phone number on your account. If you don't trust this to actually be CitiBank, then just call the number on the back of your plastic titled "Customer Service" and they can forward the call to the Fraud Department associate for you.

Repeated shill postings here insisting the call is from Citibank.
Why would so many people look up a number they already know, then post that it is a real number??
Of course they wouldn't.
These are shills, trying to cover up what is in fact some sort of scam or phishing fraud.
Don't be fooled. Don't respond or give any information to this caller, or call back on this line. If you need to talk to the bank, use the number shown on your bank statement.
anonymous 2012-01-01 00:29:46 Unknown
If a stranger claiming to be Citibank calls you (you did NOT call them), *DO* *NOT* give out any info and always hang up and call back using a known-to-be-correct Citibank phone number like from the back of your Citibank card or from the phone book. Beware of scammer shills on this thread.

I answered, got a recording that said, "This is an important call; please hold. Then it kept saying that. Then it hung up. Not very useful! All the Caller ID said was 800 Service.

Citibank Fraud Department. They didn't leave a message, but I called back after seeing this page.
Told me my credit card had been compromised and that they were sending me a new card in the mail.

I agree with David it is from CitiBank's Fraud Dept
David 2011-10-06 02:15:21 Unknown
This is a legitimate number. It is the Citibank Fraud Dept. They detected unusual activity on my card account called me from this number.
(Need "Legitimate" or "Valid" entry in call type below - I left it at "Unknown")
