OK - It MAY be from the ARA. Since readily available technology lets scammers "spoof" legitimate numbers it actually may be a fraud. Or maybe not. Even if you are convinced that it's the ARA it's smarter to avoid giving any personal information: your name, location, age, and certainly not your bank or credit card.

I make such callers send me their appeal/information by USPS mail. Whether they are fundraising or selling I'm not doing business over the phone. Often I won't even adlit that I'm me!

This could be a political call. A "Save Social Security," "Medicare," etc., lind of thing. Changes to these programs are being considered by Congress right now. Nonetheless, I want to consider their information (and any request for $) only after they provide a printed appeal that allows a thoughtful decision.

I just got a call from this number.  Some guy tried to leave a message; but, it was unintelligible.  I have no idea who it is.

The ARA is a legitimate organization. It is labor backed, (AFL-CIO etc) and although no where the size of the AARP, does a good job speaking up for retired worker issues. It is somewhat puzzeling that the caller did not leave a message. I'm like a lot of people out there; I don't answer calles from toll free numbers.

That is their (ARA) membership number. So why would someone else get the same number as Debt Collection? Is this a case of software masking their number so that it looks like a another business. There is something called 'Asterisk' that can be used to fool people into thinking you are someone else. One agency of debt sharks calls in as Special Olympics Vermont.........believe me it isn't the Spec. Olympics!

Be careful of who you think your answering to. It may be real or it may be a scam.

It's the number for the Alliance of Retired Americans.  Their website claims they're trying to protect Social Security and Medicare but I know nothing about them.

Do not call me. I have employed an attorney to take care of you blood suckers. I am also cancelling my land phone. You people are the worst in the world. I have no job, no money and you think I can pay you. THINK AGAIN!
