I use to work for ACS I did not know anything about fundraising or any thing like it. Once I got there I thought wow I can make 10 bucks an hour just for TRYING to get people to donate, because thats how they came off in the interview. Boy was I wrong once there I did so bad my first 2 weeks by NOT collecting as much as they wanted that I was moved to the Customer Service Department with a 3 dollar deduction. Yup I went from 10 bucks to 7.40. Even tho the pressure of selling was off they still pressured you to resell. Only 20% of your donation goes to charities and 80% they pocket. This is a family owned family runed business. I know I am not meant to just come sit at a computer and make calls all day long so I tried to advance to higher positions. Nope I was declined every time. I had perfect attendance perfect calls I just didnt have the blood line. This job sucked ! You would come to work one day to work one shift then by the end of your work hours they could change your shift completely. They barely want you off the phone for ANY reason whatsoever. They didnt care if you have kids school or whatever. The head managers never changed because they rarely hire for their positions. This company is a legit ripoff period. The only ones really profiting are the owners his family and the people in 'sells' who could careless if you had no legs arms and half a brain if you have 10 20 30 or higher bucks they are going to get it one way or another, and that is sad. They hire just as fast as they fire that is why they will never have layoffs. They say the majority of their profits goes to making brochures and print info but the 'models' they use for their photos are the people who work their...... They dont even get paid for their photo shoot. So they are using fake actors or whatever to really push it which they make in their back office they even have their donations go to po boxes in whichever state which are then rerouted back to Michigan smh... Please be Cautious if they call Tell them to remove you FROM ALL CALL LISTS period and wait until it is done to hang up.

Non-profit Organization
This is a scam tele fundraiser for it would seem multiple charities that are questionable themselves. However, in most states they must start their pitch by saying

"Hello, my name is (full name of fundraiser registered with the SOS or AG) and I am a paid fundraiser with (full name of fundraising company registered with AG or SOS) and I am calling "on behalf" of (full name of charity registered with AG or SOS)

If they do not do this and they claim to be members of the group they are raising money for then they are committing fraud against the donor. It is considered in some States to be "Obtaining Money By False Pretenses" and in others it is considered "Theft By Deception" and still other States considered it to be "Larceny". But no matter what you call it it is stealing from the Donor. In some cases when they get caught they are fined as much as 40 grand per call. I read our States Charitable Solicitation's Act and it looks like very few of these companies are raising money according to the Law's of our State and I will bet that if you read your States Charitable Solicitation Act you will find the same to be true.

When they claim to be a member of the group they are raising money for, as this company is doing, it is damaging all other charities that do not use so called "Professional Fundraiser's" to raise money. They all know this but they continue to steal from "us" the donating public. Fundraiser's like this must be put out of business as they lie to the donor and they do this because some of these so called fundraisers get to keep as much as 99% of the money they collect and they use that money to call us over and over again to ask us for more money that they can use to call us over and over again. If you want to give money to charity then the best way is to hang up on the tele fundraiser committing fraud and search out the charity yourself.

Also, a professional fundraiser is "NOT" exempted from the "Do Not Call" list. A non profit calling on it's own behalf is exempted. The fundraiser must abide by the DNC. The so called professional fundraiser, Corporations for Character, was sued May 9th 2011 by the FTC for 16 million DNC violations at 16 grand each for a total of 26.4 billion dollars in DNC fines. It is the largest lawsuit of it's kind in the history of the United States. Corporations for Character raised money for Police, Firefighter's and Cancer charities, same as the company on this page.

This company seems to be calling for Police Fire and Veteran's groups as well as medical and children's groups. All of which are wasting the bulk of your donation on fundraising and administrative costs like salary's for the charity officials. You can find out more about this scam group at http://www.pfcl.org/

I am currently employed by "ACS" ,had no idea what i was getting into when i started ,and cant stand the place, soo much pressure to get money from people who can hardly afford it. as soon as i can find another job i will take it. meanwhile my kids gotta eat and need a roof over there head. If you dont want us to call you pick up the phone and clearly ask the person on the other end to take you off the list and wait for conformation , alot of people will get a call back if they answer and just say take me off the list then hang up. if we dont hear you clearly we code it as a call back. every call is on a automatic dialer we have no control over how often we call you. and probably be more pissed than you when we see a name on the screen that we just called 20 minutes ago. also picking up the phone and not saying anything is funny, sorry.. all we do is mute the phone and start talking to a coworker, it just give us a moment to take a breath. or eat.regardless we still get payed. sorry if that seems heartless, but its a dog eat dog world out here.and sometimes you have to do what you have to do. also no matter how bad it seems or IS.. it is legit

2 tell a kid that there 2 young and stupid 2 know any better really shows the lack of brains in yourself. There are tons of people who work for ACS that i will agree with you and say, they don't know any better. I don't feel that makes them idiots or stupid they just have 2 watch there surroundings and learn for themselves. When u go and apply for a job and they tell you u'll mak 10.00 an hour 2 sit there and raise money by calling on of behalf of multiple charities, and the supervisors and trainers are very polite and professional how can u knw its a scam @ first. Your forgetting this is an actual legitimate business that has 2 rapidly growing offices, and this is a job that hasn't experienced and probably won't experience layoffs for a while. Like he said he made 50,000 to do something that anyone w/o knowing the statistics would think is highly credible. Raising money for people that are in less fortunate situations and actually enjoying ur job, really shows alot of heart in this young man. I started off in this business pretty young also and while it took me 2 years to actually come to my senses and realize what they r doin is a big scheme 2 make money it took jus that, 2 YEARS. There not going 2 outline it for you @ there front door or during an interview. There PROFFESIONAL FUNDRAISERS so there going 2 sell there business the best way they can, until they make u see there point of view. THAT COMMENT OF YOURS WAS OVERBOARD AND SO NOT CALLED FOR. U SHOULD PROBABLY THNK B4 U SPEAK!

I worked for ACS for three months and it was horrible. I had to quit the job because I couldnt sleep at night. The job is very stressfull and demanding. The way that they badger potential donors is how they treat their employees. It was immoral for me to persist that elder people or people that were having medical hardships donate to a charity that wasnt receiving what they thought and for management to get upset if you didn't try to manipulate the donor. Its sad that when you have excellent work skills, background and potential and this is one of the few jobs that are immediately hiring.

Everybody on the phones there is either high on something, or drunk...including the managers(JOE,Scott Stepek,Jeff Goodwin, with the exception of Brent mills). I worked ther for over a year. The most unprofessional enviroment i've ever worked in. They call it "dirt balling" when they talk an old lady into giving 100$ or more. perfectly legal but horribly unprofessional!

I worked for ACS for a matter of months before I figured out the scam. What they are doing is perfectly legal. They get a certain number of leads per week which is in their automated dialer. The men and women on the phone have no control over how many times they call. If you are on a do not call list it does not matter because the national do not call list refers to those calling to sell things over the phone. Since ACS does fund raising they are allowed to make phone calls. The way it works is there is an initial call through the yellow pages for the breast cancer society. It is not the susan g. kommen or any other charity. After they get customers to donate to the breast cancer society they are in the door. They will receive calls from what seems like every charity under the sun. Now, all of these charities that they are calling for are legitimate charities and if you go to their individual websites. It is not a total scam. However if you give once you will be in their system forever and they will call you until you give again. If you want to get the phone calls to stop you must pick up the phone and politely say to the man or woman, please take me off of ALL calling lists. The law states that if you request to be put on a do not call list they only have to do it for that one charity that they are calling for. They do not have to take you off of all their charity lists. If worse comes to worse just ask for a manager and they will take care of it. Make sure that you have it documented the date and time. At that point you can press charges. Also, all the calls in the entire office are recorded so if you do go to court you can ask for that piece of evidence. Any other questions just post it up.

This is an aggressive telemarker working for charities. I agreed to donate over the phone. After receiving the information, I did my research and was shocked to find that  the company was under investigation for “manipulative, high pressure fundraising tactics.” The CT Attorney General said that "Associated Community Services repeatedly and knowingly broke the law, failing to clearly and conspicuously state its name and its paid solicitor status in correspondence to consumers.”

I have received 33phone calls from Associated Community Services. Some of these phone calls are received on Sundays and some occur five times within three hours. I informed them that I was no longer interested in donating because of what I discovered and was badgered on the phone. Finally, I had to send a certified letter to the charity and ACS telling them to case.

They called me in Arizona tonight, asking for a donation for "Foundation of American Veterans."  When I advised I had never heard of them, the guy said "those that don't contribute to charity much may not know us."  That made me mad, so I started the investigation.  Not only is this company not reputable, but the fav.org client only contributes 9% ($400k+) of its revenues ($4.9 M) to direct programs.  It operates out of a residence in West Bloomfield, and the secretary/treasurer earns $250k and took a loan from the organization per its 2008 IRS Form 990 (see GuideStar.org)

Cancer Charity Soliciting Nationally

Raises Millions, But Almost No Cash Goes to Direct Aid

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is advising area residents to be wary of a Tennessee-based cancer charity, which is giving less than a penny of every dollar raised in direct aid to help people with cancer.

Cancer Fund of America solicits donations across the U. S., including locally, through telemarketers, direct mail and online. The BBB found that more than 99 percent of all cash donations to the organization pay professional fundraising costs, salaries for charity officials, consultant fees and other expenses related to the charity?s operations.

?The large gap between Cancer Fund of America?s cash donations and the portion ultimately benefiting cancer patients should be a concern for every potential donor,? said Michelle Corey, president and CEO of the St. Louis BBB. ?Even when compared to other nonprofits that rely heavily on professional fundraisers, the charity?s record is unsatisfactory and donors should know that only a fraction of their donation will provide any direct benefit to cancer patients or their families.?
