This is NOT a Wells Fargo fraud prevention dept. number. Instead, it's a very sophisticated Phishing program. First clue was it was an automated system asking me to verify an account that was actually closed, they got ahold of outdated card info for me and were trying to use it. I called WF's main number and they verified a charge on that old card number was attempted online from another country and, of course, declined because it was a closed debit card. WF also verified this 800 number is not one of theirs and they would never use an automated system to call an account holder and ask for that account holder to verify the card and their identity by choosing the correct billing zip code from a menu of options.

NOT A SCAM. Someone tried to charge $500 on my card. If you get a call from this number they already have your card number and pin. Cancel the card and get a new one immediately.

This number is a fraud.  As soon as my husband got the phone call, went to voicemail- we checked and several transactions had been processed using this card. It was a Wachovia card too.  Called Wells Fargo, they said all the transactions were online via California.  These items were for subscriptions and to run OTHER people's credit reports.  Be- ware.  If you get a phone call from this number; call Wells Fargo (on theback of the card) immediately.  A report was filed with the FTC and other credit agencies.

this is a legit number and automated service from wells fargos fraud prevention dept.  I changed my account info online and made some purchases and paid some bills and they called to confirm that it was me who made those transactions.  Pretty cool actually.  No worries.

Wow people are paranoid and delusional.  THIS IS INDEED WELLS FARGO FRAUD PREVENTION!  All they ask for is your zip code, in fact, they don't even ask, you choose from a list of 3.  Then they rattle off your last three charges and you either confirm or deny them.

I did some admittedly suspicious things last night, like filling 2 cars with gas at once and buying over $1000 of electronics online.

If you don't do business with Wells Fargo and got this call, maybe the last owner of your number did.  Or perhaps the customer they're aiming for had bad handwriting... its not some grand conspiracy here, mistakes happen!

But as they say, arguing with the MENTALLY ILL is like trying to blow out a lightbulb.

It may be spoofed from some.  Mine really was Wells Fargo and they caught a fraudulent charge.  They asked for no other info than my zip code.  I spoke with a real human after the computer voice, they shut down my card and a new one is being issued.  If it is a spoof, they'll ask for further info.  Just don't give anything out.

Well. This call came in today and says its Wells Fargo.  It's a draud. Why do I say that?  Well they had my name but ummm.  I don't do business with Wells Fargo. Soooo.  Don't see how I can have an unauthorized charge to a bank account with a bank I do not do business with. Not only that but I am sure that a legit call from Wells Fargo would say 'Wells Fargo'. Not '800 Service'

Ya know?

Fraudulent call claiming to be from Wells Fargo, phishing for credit card information.  After getting this fraudulent call (caller had heavy accent), I contacted Wells Fargo and they confirmed that this is not their number, and that they had not tried to call me.

Any posts claiming that the call is legitimate are from the operator of the fraud, and should be disregarded.  Fraudulent calls from this number should be reported to Wells Fargo and the authorities immediately.

This is legitimate from Wells Fargo's fraud department.  I called the number back and I went through some security steps then had to verify some recent transactions.  In this case I had made the transactions.  If you see this number and you bank with WF call it back.

I for one can honestly say that it is NOT a scam.  I felt the same way at first which is why I contacted the Wells Fargo customer service number on my credit card and/or bank records instead of answering the phone and/or calling this number back.  If people do not trust this number then simply call your bank or 800 customer service number to ease your mind. If there is fradulent activity on your account, it will be flagged and they will transfer you to the correct department. That simple! :)

This is definitely Wells Fargo Fraud Department.  I received two calls from them in the last two days due to scum bags in Texas trying to use my credit card.  When I received the first call/voicemail from them yesterday (from this phone number), I was hesitant to call the same number back, so I called the Wells Fargo customer service center instead.  They confirmed that someone in Fraud was trying to reach me and I asked for them to connect me.  That is when I found out that someone was trying to use my card several states away from where I live.  I received another call this morning from the same number so I picked it up (started off as an automated call on their end) and then a live person answered.  I promise you this is a legit call from the bank!!

I wanted to write back because they called again this morning.  I think this is legit.  If it were fraud they'd want specific information such as my card number or PIN.  They gave me three zip codes and I picked the  prompt that matched my zip.  Then they read my two most recent transactions and asked me to either approve or disapprove them.  I made a larger purchase which is what triggered the phone call.  I for one am grateful for the call as if my card were stolen I feel they are looking out for me.  I am glad forums are out there like this though because they do help ward off the bogus phone calls.

I'm not sure if it's legit or not but it could be.  If they don't ask for personal information then I wouldn't worry about answering their questions.  When I called she said that she couldn't see any information in my account but it could be that it hasn't processed yet.  She said if I receive the call again they may verify recent purchases but to not give away my PIN or anything like that (duh).

EITHER RE-READ YOUR STATEMENT OR WRITE A NEW ONE BECAUSE YOUR NOT MAKING ANY SENSE IN THE ONE YOU WROTE HERE "Considering that I got the calls last night and they knew about the charge this morning and didn't ask for anything but confirmation that the charges are valid, I can't understand how anyone would come to the conclusion that it's a scam."

If you receive another call from this number then answer it to see who is on the other end and find out what kind of information they are looking for. If it is Wells Fargo then you've got no problems if it is a scam well then you'll know that also. The Problem with spoofed numbers is that when you call the number back it's legit because you're calling Wells Fargo. The number can be inserted to the ID of the caller and does not have to be the number they are actually calling from. Hence the term SPOOFED

Yes, Wells Fargo. Messages always ask for "Jessica". I've never had an account with them, so I just assume that "Jessica" used to have my phone number.

Received call, left message on my machine identifying as Wells Fargo fraud department. I called the number, after selecting prompt for zip code, it asked if one specific transaction was authorized. it was not. it asked for my pin number, i did not enter it, opting to wait for an operator. person answered "jason" sounded JUST LIKE THE SCUM GUY WHO STOLE MY ATM INFO AND HAD THE NERVE TO CALL MY HOUSE FOR INFO ABOUT MY OTHER BANK ACCTS about six months ago. sure enough i called wells fargo, they have NO SUCH NUMBER in their fraud department. I was really upset.

This is not Wells Fargo. Automated call asking for personal information. Hung up and called number on back of card. Wells Fargo said call did not originate with them. It's someone fishing and clearly they think they're pretty smart posting "positive" feedback on this site.

This is not a scam.  Got a call from Fraud Prevention saying that someone had tried to use my card, which was closed nine months ago, at a gas station in MI.  It was only for $1.00 but they caught it.  They ask no personal info and the gentleman I spoke to also noted that a company that I had a cancelled subscription with had also tried for six months to charge on this account.  It is always wise to be suspicious of an 800 call, but this number is the real deal.
