Ummm, not so much!

The form that is filled out PRIOR to a drug screen has a who box dedicated to disclosure of what medications that you take on a regular basis. It is not as simple as, "provide them with the drug name and your pharmacy, and they can verify it over the phone". HIPPA laws prevent such a disclosure. You have to PROVE, with a valid PRINTED prescription (or copy of the same) to the testing facility.

Several years ago, I failed a drug screen that was required by my employer, when I was injured at work. I have had a prescription for a common sleeping pill, Temazepam, for YEARS! I disclosed all of my meds on the form, but they only jumped on the sleeping pill. I had to call my doctor and get a copy of the RX as well as a copy of the label from the bottle, AND submit it to the testing facility and my employer. My drug screen was not "changed" from POSITIVE to NEGATIVE, it simply showed that I had a valid Rx for the substance on my screen.

As for these company's calling and leaving messages asking for a return call to a blind voicemail, and asking for VERY protected information; SSN, DOB,etc......NO, NO and NO again!  If you took a drug screen, you received a copy of the request for the screening itself. That form has a control number on it, which relates to YOU and ONLY YOU. Unless they testing agent can give you that number, VERBATIM, do NOT release this info!

I'm a personal injury attorney and I can tell you for a fact this is NOT a scam! This is the MRO that is listed on your "Urine Chain of Custody Form" you signed (and hopefully received a copy of) after you gave your urine sample. If you are returning to work - or looking to get any Department of Transportation (DoT) regulated job, you NEED to tell the MRO about any prescriptions you take. If you do (and they can verify it), the MRO manually overrides the "positive" to a "negative" result. If you don't, you'll likely lose your job - and your disability benefits. This is NOT a scam!

If your sample comes back as positive (most likely due to a prescription you're taking), this facility - which is completely SEPARATE (by law) from the facility at which you gave your sample - has doctors (Medical Review Officers, or MROs) and assistants whose job it is to ask you to see if you are taking any prescriptions that may have caused a false positive. If you provide them with the drug name and your pharmacy, they can verify right over the phone. Best of all - by law - your employer will never know what prescriptions you're taking as all they see is a "negative" or "positive" - and only after this step is completed.

As for the posters above taking about a $150.00 retest fee, this is to test a "split sample" in the case of a false positive (not all employers request a split sample, so that may not apply to you).

They called me.   Same deal....except that they had my ss# and DL#  WRONG and refused to throw out the test.   They also refused to retest sample 1 (fed rules say they have to if requested) but offered to test sample 2 for 200!!!   Also was informed that sample WILL also test positive!!!   Thay also altered the info they had recieved which included erasing the prescription meds I was taking (i never listed any!!), changing the failure to THC and changing my SS and DL #'s.    Call Bill at 1-800-WORKPLACE    (fed dept. health and human services)
Also call ODAPC and file an offical complaint with them!!!!

Its a scam. I had been injured at work and had to go to the doctors. I got a call from (800) 404-0016 and was told I failed for cocaine! This is not possible! I have been on suspension from my work for over a week because of this. They asked for my SS# and DOB as well as copies of my doctors records concerning my injury. DO NOT DO ANYTHING WITH THESE PEOPLE! Show your boss this website!!!

The same exact thing that happened to Almost Got Scammed, happened to me. How do they get our information? I knew something was up when he said he was the dr office at the place I did a pre employment test for. I came right online and typed in the 800 number on google. It wasn't very believable so i started to research. My question is how are they relaying information given to labs, to the employers. I wonder if the reason the other two cases lost the job was because they provided the scammer with their s.s.number?? Personally I didnt answer the call because it was blocked, and the voicemail seemed suspect.. How can we stop these people?????

Yup, my son got a call from this number and it was a woman giving him a heads up that he failed his drug test. She did ask for his SS# for identification but no other information.  Just like your friend, my son did not get the job either. ;(

I don't think it's a scam. The same thing happened to a friend and basically the friend was told that they tested positive for a drug on their pre-employment drug test screen. The caller did NOT offer my friend to pay for a retest. The caller just gave my friend a heads up that they were going to call the employer and let them know that the drug test came out positive...The next day, the employer was informed of the drug test results. Needless to say, it wasn't a good outcome for my friend.

This happened to me. A woman left a voice message on my cell phone and said she was calling from the Doctor's Office for the company I work for (but she did say the first word in the company's name wrong) and said I need to call the 800 number and ask for the Doctor's Assistant. She was speaking so fast I listened to the voice message several times and realized she didn't say the right company name...I called the 800 number and a voice mail stated that I reached the National Diagnostic Medical Review Line and I need to leave my name, social security number and birthday and someone will contact me during operating hours 9am-6pm eastern time (Mon-Fri)...I recently did a pre-employment drug screening and physical (last week). I started the job this week. I think the plan was to try and scam me like what happened to I GOT SCAMMED above. Since it's the weekend, I am going to call on Monday to see if a live person answers. I want to know what kind of scam this is. I KNOW THIS IS A SCAM!!! I WILL KEEP YOU POSTED...

I had a similar situation with one of my coworkers.  When I called the number that had called him it said it was National Diagnostic Medical Review Line and you were to leave your name and social security number for them to call you back.  Do you have any further information?  My email is etherea43@yahoo.com

said they were the Doctors Office at Advanced Technology and tried to get me SSN# DOB, and CC #.  They said to call this 800 number and ask for t"the Doctors Assistant. Then they said I failed a drug test and they offered me a $150 retest.  It seemed fishy because the call came up Unavailable and they said the name of my company wrong.  This is an active scam meaning, there is a leak of immediate information weither it be from social engineering or some type of lead list.  I just took a test about 2 weeks ago.
