Calls two to three times daily, every day of the week. When answered, no sound is heard on the other end and the caller hangs-up after 15 seconds. Some of these calls are very early in the morning. Each of these daily calls progressively change the time of day when made. Is it someone tracking my whereabouts at various times of the day? I don't dare *69 and then get an enourmous out of country charge to my phone... what can be done to stop this annoyance? Any ideas, thoughts, or procedures I should take?

I've actually heard it's a telemarketing market research technique.  It can be an automated dialing system that dials random numbers to see if those people are home to sell stuff to.  I found out about it in one of my marketing classes and to throw it off press '*' 3 times and it will trick the machine to thinking it's an answering machine.  It took around 3-4 months before it stopped, but haven't had a telemarker call in almost 1.5 years now.

This has been happening to me for about 4 months now. I've reported it to the do not call registry and still it continues. Then within the last 2 weeks they've started leaving me voice mail messages saying "thank you for calling, please stay on the line and someone will be take your call" I've called verizon about this and their response was "there's nothing we can do about it"

it's the payment center for bloomingdales, macy's/richs. I actually called the number back and talk with someone. They had the wrong number but now i know who was calling.
