I got a call about an ex from 10 years ago. They said I was listed as a "possible associate". I told them I wasn't and they said they would get it corrected. Hopefully they will. If not, I'll call a lawyer.

Received a call from this number, and did some research on the company, General Revenue Corp. They are a legit collection agency specializing in government contracts and have an A Plus rating with the Better Business Bureau...

Someone named Hillary called for a distant relative. This is ridiculous. The same company called my mom a few weeks ago and it is for a member of my dad's family. My parents have been divorced for YEARS!
| Sk 2014-03-04 00:24:21 Unknown |
These people keep calling my mother in reference to someone she doesn't know. Then even called my father asking for my mother in reference to a COWORKER that my mother doesn't even know of. Wtf!?!?

My husband and I have spoken with this number multiple times to remedy the problem. A different person calls each time, and asks the same questions. They are calling my cell phone, my work phone, my office, and my husbands phone.

If they cant give out any info at all, then they should not be calling friends, family and neighbor's demanding info from us. I am sure there are some legalities that are being broken in doing so.
| Joe the supervisor 2014-01-10 00:57:07 Unknown |
Your absolutely right. I was just thinking that.

This company has gone onto my Facebook account friends list and visited pages of friends who were not private and had their phone number listed. They proceeded to call people I went to highschool with over 10 years ago asking for information about me. All this and I am already paying over $400 per month for the debt they are trying to collect from me. they refuse to leave me alone and refuse to stop harrassing my friends and family.

Can't believe the nerve of this guy! He pretended he was calling as a job reference for my sister-in-laws private information. When I told him what he was doing was illegal- he hung up

I got this message because they were trying to reach a co-worker of mine. I don't release that kind of information, so he was disappointed -- not my problem!

Some people on here making a pretty intense case for "yes, fear the threats from the random ostensibly-student-loan-collecting callers", especially considering it's a pretty equally random web page for anyone at all to comment on being called by a particular phone number. For my part, sorry but if you're making such an intense case on a web page like this, I am suspicious of you. Collection agencies can put stuff on pages like this as easily as you or I, as can scammers for that matter.
Yes, one can get in trouble for not making student loan payments, depending on the specifics of one's situation.
CRITICAL THINKING, PEOPLE !

Let them know the next time they call they are violating the TCPA and FDCPA by harassing a non-debtor and you are going to take legal action against them if the calls don't stop.
Under the TCPA, a consumer has a right to file a lawsuit and recover $500 for each call that violates the TCPA. The TCPA can also be used in conjunction with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act in some situations.
Generally, the TCPA does not apply to debt collectors making collection calls to debtors. However, if you are subjected to calls from a debt collector and you are not the debtor, you may file a lawsuit against the debt collector under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and the TCPA.
This right was recently recognized by Judge Legrome D. Davis in a case called Watson v. NCO Group, Inc. NCO Group is a debt collector that uses automated prerecorded collection calls. In this case, Mr. Watson alleged he was getting hundreds of calls from NCO Group after he got a new phone number. Mr. Watson claimed he owed no debt to NCO Group, Inc. Mr. Watson filed suit under both the FDCPA and TCPA.
David Israel, defense lawyer for NCO, argued that the TCPA should not apply to debt collectors. Judge Davis rejected the argument made by David Israel. The judge ruled that Mr. Watson had a right to sue NCO Group Inc under the TCPA for $500 for each call. Judge Davis wrote;
[The] Court is convinced that a non-debtor's rights are in fact violated when he is subjected to repeated annoying and abusive debt collection calls that he remains powerless to stop.
Judge Davis' ruling was based upon his interpretation that collection calls to non-debtors violate the privacy rights provided by the TCPA.
So what can you do if you receive "wrong number" calls from debt collectors?
1. Sign up for the Do-Not-Call registry.
2. Save the calls captured by your voice mail or answering machine.
3. Contact a consumer lawyer.

General Revenue Service - Called if I knew anything about a neighbor. If you're on-hold for a long time it because the person(s) who are assigned to your case are on the phone with someone.

"Chaz" called and wanted me to return phone call involving a personal business matter of "Maria Hamby". First of all, I don't even know a Maria Hamby. Never even heard the name before. When you dial the 800-436-6800 no you get a recorded message that it is GRC, General Revenue? Chaz also left an extension, 92347994. I am listed with the phone number ....so he had to get this info from public information, ie, phone directory?

I just got a voice mail from this number (screening my calls so I didn't pick up)....Called me by NAME (which is not listed in the directory for our phone number, nor in our outgoing message), calling about my neighbor, who he called out by name. Gave me a number to return a call to and a 'claim' number to reference....THAT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!!

They have called a few times leaving messeges. The lady gave her name, number and reference number. But the problem is they are looking for someone I dated over 10 years ago and don't speak to since. And the phone that they currently are leaving messages on is not even in my name.
