I just received an automated voicemail saying I needed to call my bank back at 1-800-733-1732 about a credit card transaction.  They claim they are open 24 hours... which opposes the info on my actual bank's website.  Seems sketchy.  Do not call this number back or give them any information.

Saw I had a missed call and a voicemail earlier from this number and luckily I googled it before I even listened to the message. It was an automated message claiming to be 1st Financial Bank and wanting me to call back  and "confirm suspicious activity on my account in the last few days". Checked my account online and saw zero charges in the last 3 months and none pending so I haven't bothered to call back yet.

As an "Unknown" # on caller ID, I got a message (person) saying it was about 1st Financial Visa card charges.  I called this number. An automated message wanted to know what phone # I was calling from. They didn't identify themselves as First Financial.

This is a scam, and it happened once before to me. In fact, as I finished calling the number 800-437-5681 my phone said SCAM! as I had already programmed it from the last time.

I got a call from my "credit card company" asking me to call this number to verify the most recent transactions on my account.  The call came from a different number, and it was not from my credit card company.

Automated call that stated my name and asked me to call number to confirm recent transaction. This was supposed to be from my specific banks security department and I could call back 1-800-437-5681; it's open 24 hours a day. This number can't be paypal and my bank- not calling it.

this number called and told me to call back regarding a transaction on behalf of 1st financial bank USA to varify recent transations from my debit card. I called back, they told me a transaction was made that i was not aware of. They asked for my last 4 digits of my debit card and the expiration date. They told me they would take it off and to destroy my card, and they would send me a new one in 10-14 days. The number they called from was 1-800-327-8622 and they told me to call back at 800-437-5681.

Legit.  It's a fraud detection agency that works with credit card companies.  They'll ask you the last 4 of your card, your name, phone number, and ask you to verify the last 5 purchases you made.  Quick and painless.  A call to my credit card company confirmed that they do use this service.

I received a phone message, and when I called it back (800-437-5681), it was in fact a fraud detection agency that works along with different credit card companies.  They were able to bring my information up using the my phone number only, and I allowed them to verify the information they brought up, I did not give them anything, just verified what they said.  They were just checking to see if recent purchases were made by me and valid.  Thats it, so this number is legit.

Legit. Called number back - didn't give correct last 4 on card# so I could talk to a live person. Offshore call center, sounds like the Philippines to me. They were able to verify me through name and phone number only. They knew exactly the dollar amounts and where I had used my card (for Christmas shopping) about 5 times in the last 24 hours, just wanted to verify it was me.

I do think that to not make customers leery (as they would naturally be) the various banks and credit unions that contract with these folks should publish that fact on their website, or include a notice about it when you receive your card originally.

I got a call from 1-800-327-8622 this afternoon. I don't pick up numbers I don't recognize so I let it go to my voicemail. It was a computerized message (on behalf of the bank with whom I have a credit card) saying to call back at 1-800-437-5681 to verify disputed charges. I called back and put in the last 4 digits of my card (that was the only info they needed).

The disputed charge was real! I attempted today to purchase a book on a website from a foreign country (in a different currency too) but the charge didn't go through. That is was the call was about it. To think of it, I got the call about an hour or two after I tried to make the purchase.

I got a missed call from  and a computerized voice left a partial message that said they wanted to talk to me about debit card charges and that I needed to call them back at .  I first called my bank and checked my account and everything was fine.  I was suspicious because I don't use the number they called with that card/account.  Then I Googled and found this site about both numbers, so decided to call but make sure I gave no info.

When I called, it turns out it was about a credit card, not a debit card like the message had said!  So, checking my debit account of course turned up no flagged or pending transactions!  The heavy-accented woman on the phone asked about my last transactions, all of which were valid ones I'd made.  The call was quick and easy.  All you have to tell them is your phone number (the one they called you on) and name.  (A computer does ask you for the last four digits of your card in the beginning, but you can put in fake numbers and go right to a live person.)

These numbers are legit.

There was a message left for me to call 1-800-437-5681 about transactions on my card with my card issuers name in the message. Called the card company directly using the number provided on their website. Customer service verified that their fraud detection department had tried to contact me about a few suspicious transactions and took care of it from there. The charges were legit but i hadn't used the card in a few months, so I figure that's what triggered the call. If you get one of these calls I would contact the company you have the card from. They should be able to take care of it for you. Most card companies these days use the same card monitoring centers to save costs.

Same as above, I got a message asking me to call this number about some transactions on my 1st Financial debit card (clue #1; I don't have a debit card through 1FB). I didn't call back and instead Google'd to find this page.

I will call 1FB tomorrow however to check on this.

Got a message on my phone asking me to call this number about some transactions on my 1st Financial credit card.  Only asked for my name and phone number, which they already had in the message, and the last 4 digits of the card.  They confirmed my mailing address and asked about some purchases that I didn't make.  They said they were shutting down my card and would mail a new one shortly.

Overall seemed pretty legit to me, but I guess I'll see if I get a new card.

I also got a call wanting to ask about strange transactions on my Chevy Chase Bank account.  I went to Chevy Chase's website and got the real contact number.  And in fact, a couple strange transactions seem to have occurred in the last two days.  Even if the number isn't legitimate, it's fortunate I got that call.  Otherwise, I wouldn't have looked so closely at my account!

I got the message too, but mine had my card issuer's name instead of "paypal" in the message.   I called my bank, who confirmed they are outsourcing their verification services.   I pointed out to them that this fact (and phone #) should be prominent on their website, too much phishing in the world these days.   But it DID turn out to be legit.   Good thing I called back, they were about to shut my card off for not returning their calls.

I received a message having me call this number back about a charge made on my 1st Financial Bank card.  I don't think pay pal and 1st Financial would be the same exact number.  But I have to say... I am sure a lot of people have been scared and went ahead and called the number giving away all their information.  Thanks to whoever started this, you saved me from making a big mistake.

I got the message asking me to call back. I did, but did not give my last 4 digits of my card #. Got a live body who asked me for my name and phone number. They then rattled off three recent transactions I made and asked me if those were legitimate. I said yes, and they thanked me. and that was it. This is legit.

This IS a legitimate number.

I don't know why so many are becoming irate over this.

PayPal probably out-sources their help lines and billing to India companies. THAT's why your getting "someone from India"

I reiterate ... this is a legit phone number.

I just got off the phone with an nice Indian woman and all she wanted was for me to verify that I authorized a payment for $480 to Easton Utilities.

No scammer would have known that I made an online payment via PayPal to my local utilities company.

At first the automated system DID want the last four of my credit card (I have 2 listed and one is no longer valid). I put the last four of the now invalid credit card and when the system couldn't find any record that's when I was connected to the woman.

I received a call from this company DEMANDING to speak to my husband about his "Paypal card" and a problem associated with it. I do all of the paypal activity in this household and I told the person this and they just told me, this is referring their Paypal card.

"What card?" I asked and they replied
"The card with the Logo on it"
-we do not have a paypal card! - and I told the women this and she was somewhat rude...
"I know more about these "cards" than he would - but whatever..." and she just said
"GIVE HIM THIS MESSAGE AND TELL HIM WE CALLED AND TO CALL US BACK AS SOON AS POSSIBLE ABOUT THIS CARD - PHONE # is 1-800-437-5681"

What a scam - I looked up PAypal's customer support # and it's a 1-888#, not a 1-800 #.

DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR INFORMATION!! WHen you return the call they will start asking for it!

I received a call stating that PayPal security wanted to verify account activity. I logged into my account to verify. Saw no problems with account ... used "Contact us" link to call PayPal. PayPal rep was very nice ... I explained situation and gave call back number that was left in my voice mail. Rep stated that (800) 437-5681 was a valid telephone number, but took care of everything without asking for any "Personal" information. The website generates a webpage pin that is valid for 1 hour ... that is the only info they asked me to provide ... other than verifying that I had use a "Secure" card to make a purchase ... they provided the customer name and date. I found no problems with the way PayPal handled this situation.
