Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans
Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010 FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691
The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.
According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.
The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

They just called me said the same thing the she goes can you verify the last 4 digits of your social.I said no, I don't know you, the number you called from, or the name of your company. She said I can give you a number to call and verify who I am, I said no, I don't know them either, and I do not give my social over the phone. She was like well I have that information anyway I just need to verify it, I said well then you don't need it do you? She said, oh well ok bye. Really lady? What kind of scam are they pulling? Second call I have gotten like that. Tired of SCAM CALLS, PEOPLE, LIARS, and CHEATS.
Amazon has a company running scams for the like it's a legit business. They will take your money then tell you they know they lied to you to get your money. AMAZON.com DOESN'T even CARE.

They're really wasting my time. I'm almost 70 and my husband is 71. I went to college 50 years ago on a scholarship and my husband didn't go to college. He went to technical school which was paid for by his company. These folks are phishing.

I have been getting calls from this company on both my office phone, and the cell phone of a friend I used to call these folks once. They deal with defaulted student loans and are a legitimate collection agency used by the Department of Education. They are very unprofessional, and although I set my payments up, through them, for auto withdrawal, they continue to call and harass me. I am preparing to file complaints all over the federal government about this company.

I missed their call. Called them back, they said they were Collection Agency or smoth and asked for my name. That is it. Googled this number, does not look trustworthy.

Wre getting calls from this number 1-800-451-3072 as well as the 1-888-682-4326 Number ... I told them to take my number off their call list. I hung up as soon as I got a arrogant voice from one of their reps.. I usually don't answer calls w/o ID of Name or the company name. These number are showing up twice per day. Its annoying to get calls like these anyway, but harrassing when they interrupt my privacy after 6pm or prior to 9am.
I don't answer them, it annoys us to even hear the phone ring.. Its like you get one batch of callers/scams/cons to finally stop, by their "DoNot Call" list, then to have a another different batch of jerks to starts calling.

I received a call from this number while at work. They said they wanted to find out if a particular person was ever employed by my company. I gave them the employment verification number and told them to call. Then they wanted my name, which I said wasn't important. The woman on the phone was polite but kept insisting that she indeed needed my name for her 'records'. I refused to give her my name asked her why she needed my name if she is interested in verifying someone employment??? I don't believe she wanted to verify anyone's employment. I think it was just a ruse to get my name so that when she called again, she could say something like, "Hi, I just spoke with ___________ and she transferred me to you...." She never said anything about debt. I don't know what she wanted, but whatever it was she didn't get it from me.
| Ken 2013-03-28 15:27:30 Unknown |
Not sure why they would be calling me... I am current on my college loans and have no other debt. They were pricks when I talked to them.

Received a call saying they are from Financial Assets Mgmt. Systems, calling to collect a debt. I don't have any outstanding debt that I know of and they couldn't find it when I called back.
