Came across as First Third Bank in my caller Id. Nothing in Google. Assuming its a scam. Even if it is Fifth Third I have no accounts with then.

This is for sure a scam.  They are not really 5/3 bank. We called 5/3 to find out what this number is and they said it's  not them.  If a bank calls you, always, go to the customer service number and call that if there's a concern. Don't answer emails or phone calls.

Fifth Third wanted account number.

Get calls from this number at 8:30 am each day and then several times later. Their voice prompt is faulty, so they ask you to call the 1-800 number to clear up your problem. I called, knowing it was a scam, and they immediately asked me for my account number. The male on the other end of the phone had poor English speaking skills. I told them to stop calling. I went to my local branch and they told me to contact the police or the Better Business Bureau. It is not 5/3rd Bank, as they claim.
 

It's 5/3 Bank.  They will call and harass you when your payment hasn't been made.  My mortgage is due on the 1st of the month with a 7 day grace after the due date.  If they don't have the payment by the first of the month they call me 3-4 times a day.  Even if you call and tell them you will pay before the grace period they will try and get you to pay over the phone and will continue to call you.

5th 3rd will never ask for "ANY INFORMATION" on the net or via telephone. "BEWARE" !!!!!!!!!!!

This same thing just happened to me. I am current with all my accounts with Fifth Third. No reason for them to call me. I noticed I missed a call from 800-457-0839 and when I called it back I reached a woman with a heavy accent asking me for my account number and SSN#. When I refused, she kept going saying that she needs my billing address. I refused again and asked her why I would miss a call from this number but she went silent, so I just told her that I would call MY bank myself to find out more info and hung up on her.

This caller has repeatedly tried to reach me on my cell phone....an unlisted/unknown #!  I am on the do not call list

My husband and I keep getting these calls from this number stating that they are with 5/3 bank. However, they ask for our account number and/or social security number. We have reported it to our local bank. They said they do not own this number and that we should never give our account or SS# over the phone. If it is really the bank, they already have that information. REALLY wish something could be done about this.

I received a call from this number today.  They wanted to confirm my phone number (which they called) and address 'in case they need to contact me in the future.'  I verified they had the right info, but did not give them any info.

I called 5/3's Customer Service number and they had no record of me being called.  They did not even have a current number on file for me.  My account currently has a positive balance, with enough to cover all my pending auto-payments for the next 30+ days.

I received a call from this number, I answered it and they hung up.

Valid # my behind! This message must have been posted by the phone scammers. Anyone who thinks a bank is going to ask you for account or S.S. #'s over the phone (or online) is a flipping idiot! I don't have or use a 5/3 credit card, so how could something have gone wrong? If you gave out any info over the phone you better go to your 5/3 branch and close that account ASAP! P.S. My nephew who works for 5/3 says this phone solicitation is bullcrap!

Derek called and said I have suspicious activity on my 5/3 account. I called the bank and they said it saw a scam.

Also have been receiving call for days now from 800-457-0839. Called the 800-972-3030, to verify this number and got transferred to a 5/3 mortgage "special" collection department.  Even though our mortgage payments are current, up to date, nothing late, but they claim they can call within the "grace" period and ask for payment, especially when customers used the grace period repeatedly.  What?  Isn't that why the reason for a grace period?  Rude, arrogant staff, one asked me to pay over the phone the day I called.  I refused, as I still have several days before my grace period is up.  They call day and night.  Makes no sense.  

Local 5/3 bank manager says they have no internal record of this 800-457-0839 number and never heard of calling before the grace period to ask for payment and are looking into it.

Get a lot of calls from this number. It is some bank I have never heard of that thinks I have a car loan with them on a car I have never owned through a dealership I have never purchased from. I think it is probably a scam.

Received several calls from this 800 457-0839 today all having a "blocked ID" on my phone.

That ph# is valid because I work for 5/3. We wouldn't call you if you don't have any business with us, unless we're calling the wrong number. We're using an automated dialer and the calls that we're getting are non-stop, that's why the IVR would say that "we're experiencing high call volumes."

Claimed to be 53 Bank with important message and experiencing high call volumes.

yes this is a 5/3rd # and yes it could be a scam too. i contacted 5/3rd. it is one of their #'s. it's the collections dept. rep said he didn't know why i got the call since there is nothing in collections. it is possible whoever is calling is sophisticated enough to have a caller id# come across as that particular # or it's an inside job. remember your bank already has your info so don't let them ask you for anything including the time of day!!!!!!

Two recordings with the same 800 number to call. They asked for my account number and social security and I said "GO TO HELL"! Even if it were 5th 3rd Bank  (5th 3rd Bank denies this is one of their numbers btw) can you get any dumber for asking for a S.S.# these days?

I called the police and reported them to the Do Not Call authorities.

Have recieved numerous calls from (800)-457-0839each time, one name was "Josh".  They start out asking for acct number, address, and try to eliminate which phone numbers were not mine.  They then asked for additional phone numbers.  Next the "5/3rd" rep asked for my social, and i refused until knowing what the problem was concerning.  She (a lady with an Indian accent) refused until i gave my info....I hung up the phone.  I had called 5/3 rd on my own to inquire about this call via their customer service line soon after the first calls started, and 5/3 rd had no knowledge of anyone from their company trying to contact me, or about this phone number.   I will be contacting my local branch mgr.

One of our club members recieved a call (while on vacation) from 800-457-0839, a VERY RUDE MAN.  He stated that he was going to take money out of our CLUB ACCOUNT to make a personal car loan payment because the member's name was a co-signer on the club account. The member told him that the money did not belong to him/her.  The MAN said it didn't matter.  That the payment needed to be made TODAY!  The treasurer of our club called the 800-457-0839 to state NOT to take the money from the club account.  The RUDE MAN then stated he had to have the member's Social Security number.  Checking online, we found this website (THANK YOU ALL FOR POSTING THIS WARNING!)  It does trace back to collections for 5th 3rd Bank.

800-457-0839 is a valid number so don't worry. It is the collection arm of 5th3rd Bank. When something goes wrong with your card payment, apparently they are notified with very minimal information. Then don't know your card account number, type of card, bank routing or checking info. And they ask for it which should raise a red flag. If you are behind and have the money to pay the credit card, just enter your account online at 5th3rd website and pay your card online.

Got a call today from "unavailable". Says his name was David Fisher from the offices of Ray Caupp (sp). Says they're finling a claim against me and to have myself or my attorney call them at 800-214-7869.. If these agencies had any brains, they would know by now that threatening people over the phone doesn't get them anywhere.. Especially those that have no money in the first place..

I have received two voice mail messages on my home phone from this same number.  800-457-0839.  I knew immediately is was a scam.  I contacted my local 5/3 branch and they said they will investigate.

I confirmed with 5/3rd's Bank Protection number from the 5/3 website that this number is valid.

A woman called and said she was from Preferred Bank and that I had a MasterCard with a $700 balance and it needed to be paid. I told her to send me and bill and she said that she needed my S.S. number to do so. I don't even have a MasterCard. She said that she would be reporting me to the credit bureau and going to tell them I was being uncooperative.  She was very rude.

I received a call today asking to speak to my husband when I asked what it was in regards to "Henry" said it was a personal business when I told him I was on the account he told me that my mastercard/debit card had a balance over 185 days old and he needed a payment today.

Received calls today at home AND at office, same recorded message identifying caller as 5/3 and saying high call volume, pls return call at 800-457-0839.
