If you get a letter stating to call 800-4800186 because they want to verify the information because you applied for credit with Wallmart/Synchrony Bank, etc., please take it seriously. This is a legitimate letter. Someone applied on line or at the store for the credit card with your name, address, and SocSec#, they have it! Usually they apply to get immediate credit approval and charge up the card untill you figure it out. If you got a letter, that means they did not get instant approval for some reason and now Walmart/Bank is asking for additional info. If you are in doubt, search Walmart Credit card number and call them (it is 1866 6111148, or 877 294-7880). When I called they told me I applied for a card, verified all info (last 4 digits of social), etc. They closed the file and submitted fraud report to Trans Union. What you need to do is put a fraud alert on with TransUnion (transunion.com) on your credit and they forward this to all 3 companies. This is only for 3months. If you want longer, you need to file a police report and they will do it for 7 years. The creditor will have to call you before issuing a credit so you will know if someone is still applying for credit under your name. YOu can also obtain credit reports from 3 bureaus using www.annualcreditreport.com and look at the bottom who did hard inquiries. I found Wallmart inquiry on mine and one more on the same day. Make sure to take it seriously, someone has your info. Also, you can put Freeze on your account, your account will be totally not visible from any creditors.

I received a letter from GE Capital Retail Bank,Creditor, in Orlando, Fl. Requesting that I contact them for additional information regarding my request for a credit application to Amazon, com. Sorry, I've never applied for an application for credit for Amazon.com. Obviously, this is another scam. Their phone number is 1-800-480-0186.
I will be referring this letter to the Consumer Fraud Dept.

Both me and my husband had our personal information stolen. There are several cards that are being attempted to open in our name. This is the number that calls (or number on the letter you received) if you have opened a credit card from a number of stores. If you have not opened an acct, then I would definitely call the store and have them transfer you to the fraud department and have the application declined.

Just received a letter from AMAZON.COM STORE CRD, GE Capital Retail Bank, Creditor, PO Box 965002 saying i made a credit application with AMAZON.COM STORE CRD. And the letter asked me to call back on 800-480-0186 since they require more information.  I did NOT make a credit application for an Amazon.com retail credit card.  They even had the nerve to sign off the letter as from the Fraud Prevention Department of GE Capital Retail Bank. This is the second unsolicited credit card in the last week...first one was from Chase re: an Expedia.com pass card -- they would not even cancel the account they set up (without my authorization) until i got the actual cards from them with the new account number. This Amazon.com card letter may also be Chase.  What gives...i am going to complain to someone...just don't know who yet.

I got a letter from AE Outfitters aksing me to call 800-4800186 to get additional info for my credit application.  I did not apply for credit from this company.  Beware.  Don't call anyone to give info.  Never give info unless you made the first move.

Lowes, GE Capital retail bank, creditor sent a letter asking for more info to process a Lowes application. THEY knew the last 4 and my lic number and read them to me! later, I found this info is available to outfits like GE for a fee. My bank is locking up the Big Three reporting agencies to prevent them from giving out info without a password from me.

GEMB is not very good at dealing with accounts.  If you google GEMB SCAM - you will find hundreds of complaints about their credit services..    I know for a fact that they SCREW you as the conveniently removed my mailing address from their records and at the same allowed fraud charges to be posted against it.  no calls at all - Only way I found out that a rarely used dept store credit card with a 0 balance was in default was when a collection agency called.  Could not produce a signed receipt for these charges - so falsely claimed I bought a gift card via the website -

Filed a complaint with the Office of Thrift supervision and GEMB was required to admit /correct their mistakes, remove the account from collections, correct credit rating and remove the fraudulent charges.

Needless to say I do not do business with them anymore

It's a credit servicers line. They called me today to confirm my application of a card I made yesterday. For security reasons, I won't say what card it was that I applied for, but I can tell you that this company, like the companies of the two posters before me, uses GE Creditors as the card's distributor.

Don't worry, guys, there's no security threat if they're asking you to call that number. It's just GE. But, at the same time, you may try to look into what prompted those letters to be mailed to your house about an account that did not exist.
