Telemarketer
A boiler room pocket dialed me, all I heard was swearing on the other end like:

"How much f****ng commission do you expect to make on a f****ng $10,000 deal?"

About 25 seconds of that then he realized that he had called and hung up.

I could hear the SOB's in the background hawking "something Capital" and applying their high-pressure tactics.

A***oles!

Debt Collector
Just received a phone call at our office from this number asking for an employee that no longer works here. I'm guessing from the other responses that it's a debt collector, but I'm hoping they won't call back because I told them that the person they're looking for no longer works at our company.

This is a collection agency looking for garfield williams, for TWO YEARS I have been telling them: "I AM NOT GARFIELD WILLIAMS!!"  I  bought a new cell phone from 'the A-carrier' two years ago and got GW's old cell number.  (Had to change numbers three time because of the same issues: deadbeat's old numbers)
Tried to block the calls after telling those idiots every day, garfield does not have this number anymore, STOP CALLING!  Then 'the A-carrier' adds insult to injury telling me I have to pay an extra $5 a month to block these HARASSING calls.  After a few months of head banging, 'the A-carrier' agreed to block the calls with no charge to me. Catch, I had to go through the Procedure every three months to renew the call blocking.  To be fair, 'the A-carrier' agent did the best she could for me considering 'the A-carrier's blocking capabilities.  I registered with DO NOT CALL, which was supposed to help stop harassing calls.  Not sure exactly what was effective, of all the things I tried, but the calls did stop for a while.  I had to change carriers because of coverage issues, but kept the number because I did not want to start all over again with some other deadbeat's old number. Now I am getting the calls again!
Garfield, Pay your dang bills!!!

Fax your request to stop calling you, and CC: Their attorney general.

If they continue to call you they are in violation of State and Federal
laws. If you owe money or not, they have to stop.

This is all the letter needs to have on it.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

I am unable to pay on this account due to (Tell Them Why) This is a
permanent situation. I also hope to save both of us a great deal of time,
energy and expense by letting you know that I have no attachable income or
own any assets such as a home, car, land; essentially I have no money and
can prove it!

In accordance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, 15 USC 1692c,
805(c):

(c) CEASING COMMUNICATION. "If a consumer notifies a debt collector in
writing that the consumer refuses to pay a debt or that the consumer wishes
the debt collector to cease further communication with the consumer, the
debt collector shall not communicate further with the consumer with respect
to such debt..."

Although I agree that I owe this debt, I am unable to make any payments
toward it and therefore ask that you cease further
communication with me concerning this debt. I will notify you if my
financial situation improves enough to allow me to begin or resume making
payments. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

They have been calling and it's usually either dead silence or an automated message telling me to "wait for an important message from ERC".  This morning...a live person answered when I did.

She asked for someone by FULL name and when I said "There's no one here by that name, you have the wrong number" (which is true) she immediately asked if I knew that person.

Whether I do or not is moot...I told her she had the wrong number.  She became rude when I repeated that there was no one here by that name, responding with "That's now what I asked you."

We went through this all last year with these bozos, too.  They were told then to stop calling and remove our number.

Check out Bud Hibbs' web site. I've used his info and it works.

http://www.budhibbs.com/

Also, read the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act (not too difficult a read...) to learn what debt collectors may and may not do.
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf

Also, from right here on 800notes.com, a box in the right-column has links with info on what to do if you're getting harassing calls...

I have research on situations like this and the best thing to do is to ask for the address and send them a letter requesting for them to stop calling you at work. This letter must be certified and a signature card should be returned to you by the post office. It costs a little bit more but it is worth it. Once you have this card with a signature proving they received the letter you can legally proceed against them. Legally they can't be calling you at work and if they keep on doing this and denying they are doing it this is the best thing you can do. Hope it helps!

Mc Donalds (or other places like it) employees are an improvement over people in collection agencies, telemarketers, people asking you for money or trying to sell you something. Fast food workers are more productive and they don't try to sell you something you're not interested in or ask you for money unless you make your own choice to conduct business with them.

Caller ID says "Toll Free Call" which is informative.  They also use (800) 497-0351.  This is a collection agency, Enhanced Recovery Corporation.  They are looking for someone else, and they leave recordings saying to please delete their message if I'm not that person.

I either hang up on them or turn the ringer off.  Various agencies have been calling me since October, looking for this person.  It could be a scam, trying to scare people into giving out information so they can "verify" your identity.

I got a call this morning from a Man named Chris--no last name or company--asking to speak to speak to my dad (only used first name) and that he's been trying to reach my dad for some time now. He also used my first name. He did call in the morning when I was unable to pick up and left a voicemail. Thanks to these posts--I know that I shouldn't bother calling them back and I hope that they do not harass me or my dad.

I, too, received a telephone call from a Dave Conway. This agency told a third party (my spouse) about my debt, which in the state of Massachusetts is illegal. I get numerous calls almost daily from this agency even after telling them never to call again. I was going to pay this agency some of the debt that they owe, but they breached my trust and confidence by telling my spouse. (My spouse knew of the debt prior to the harrassing phone calls, but it's the principle of telling a third party. Where is the confidentiality? I will refuse to pay this illegal acting corporation.

Wednesday 8:45 pm A gentleman calls asking for my father who has not lived here for many years. He gives me a case number and says it is a personal business matter.  He says his name is Mr. Conway. I took down the info and refused to give him any information about my father's new contact info. When I dialed the number provided Mr Conway answered and the name of the company is CRS. Seems fishy

This number is calling me at work after I asked them not to weeks ago.  When I call and confront them about it, they tell me that they have no record of them calling me.  Just now I called them on my cell phone arguing about the situation and my work phone rings and its them.  They are still denying the fact that they are calling me and I have them on the other line.

Legally what can be done about this?

Update. This same number began to blitz me with automated debt collector calls. (So looks like it was a debt collector). Funny thing was they kept calling me at around the same time in the morning and evening at times when I would be unable to pick up the phone. They finally called (with a real person again around 8:15 ? 8:30 in the morning). This time I picked up and they gave me a new name they were looking for. The last name of the person they were looking for was my wife?s maiden name so I guess they found my wife?s maiden name and decided they would ask here to pay the debt (or at least where the find the person). Best part, my wife?s maiden name is/was very common.

I recently received a call from a gentleman who was happy to tell me his name was Dale (or Dave), I do not recall the last name. The individual proceeded to request to speak with my wife. However, the odd part was that he used her full name (First, Middle, Last) and he utilized her maiden name. When I asked what the call was regarding he simply restated his name. When I asked again he refused, became rude, and told me it was a personal matter. I refused to give this person any information and advised him that if he could not tell me the nature of his call that I would not answer anything. This call was rather troubling.
