I received a letter today saying that I won a new mercedes, bmw, or $40,000 cash....signed Susan Murray from an AVC Travel in Arlington, TX. It also came with a "boarding voucher" for a cruise.
The number was a 800-309-8595. It's a scam!!!

"You are an official prizewinner in our NEW MERCEDES, BMW, PORSCHE OR $40,000 CASH promotion. We have been unable to contact you. ..... To avoid forfeiting your status as a recipient, call toll free at 1-800-525-1289 WITHIN 72 HOURS and arrange for a time for you and your spouse to visit and claim your prizes.....

I phoned a guy for about 25minutes conversation. He seemed to pursuade me to visit their Welcome Center in Conloe, TX, 77304. ....
I think it is a kind of Set UP. Don't believe in anything free....Be cautious, always. KJ

| Annie 2011-06-06 20:57:59 Unknown |
@m becker,
the scam is that they take you to a meeting in conroe and attempt to sell you a timeshare. They don't give you anything for free, i don't think.

Received by mail, fake "Boarding Voucher" from AVC Travel and fake electronic airline ticket to Orlando or Las Vegas from AVC Travel, 2400 W. Pioneer Pkwy., Arlington, TX, 1-800-525-1289. Also says I have won Mercedes Benz, BMW or Porsche, or $1500 shopping spree, or 5 day $806 vacation or $500 cash. All prizes will be awarded--no purchase required. "Some restrictions apply." Too good to be true?

It's a (possible) scam, the object of which is apparently to get you to tour a place called "Piney Shores" on on Lake Conroe. Naturally I had no problem resisting the offer, said "thank you, but no thanks", and hung up.

Thank you for the info on this AVC TRAVEL scam.
