If they are calling your job either you owe them or they think you do it might be worth 5 minutes to talk to them and figure it out before you get garnished

They've called my office 3 times in the past week regarding garnishing wages on an employee.  The person the want to garnish wages on has never worked for me nor do I know them personally.  I told them they had the wrong person and they were polite and hung up but have called back twice more and each time are told the person does not work for us.

I consider this harrassing behavior.

I recieved a call asking for my wife, by her maiden name.  I was never asked my name.  But Joe Stewart stated he was from the department of education.  He gave a case number and the phone number 18005303947 to pass along to the actual individual he was looking for.  Now I know that the person he was looking for never listed my wife on any student loan information, and I know that there would be easier ways of reaching that individual than going through my wife.  The individual that Joe was looking for is easily found so it is crazy to be making calls late on a friday night!

- "FAMS Another Deceptive Debt Collector"
"This Crooked Company" ...really?  All these statements sound like rants from people that owe money to someone. All collecton companies are not crooked just like all of them are not honest but you need more than some angry person's rant to verify this. To tell the truth any collection agency with a website is usually somewhat honest. The site list the top dogs contact information what type of scam company would do that?

"Never Believe Any Debt Collectors " - This just doesn't make sense to me they collect on debts that you truly do owe and if you dont then don't be scared to talk to them and tell them that.  Your better off listening to the agencies seeing what they have to say before you no longer have a option to do things on your terms. If people would simply pick up the phone instead of ignoring the calls then agencies wouldn't need to be so...creative... to get in contact with people. But as always...I'm just sayin.....

Your right I can only make assumptions based of the information provided. Chances are they sent letters....they weren't opened. They can call her house but since she made the statement
" don't answer their calls because I know their numbers " I doubt she answers. if she took the time to talk to them she woudln't be going through that but then again she mentioned that she had no plans of having a mature conversation that's why she chose not to call from work. Your right i've done collections and i've been collected on. I've avoided the calls and had the same problems but once i started working for collections i realize that people make things hard on themselves (even me). Collectors don't go away they will continue to call until they sue. But if people just answered the phone I know for a fact they could succeed.

You are making a lot of assumptions based on little information.  Obviously they know they are calling her work.  You don't know if they are contacting her at home or by mail.  You also don't know if she has dealt with them at a home phone number or by mail.  You assume she is running away from her problems.  I assume your assumptions come from working for a collector, probably this collector.

polly, they called you three times and you refused to return the call.....so what do you expect them to do besides call back? Your running away from your problems they will never get solved that way and will only get worse. I dont get how people get to the point you purposely don't answer the phone and then get mad because the company calls somone else to try and reach you. If you would have done the right thing and call back when you got the first message or maybe even answer the phone then maybe your friends, family, co-workers, etc wouldn't need to be called. Save yourself the embarrassment and own up to your responsibilites.

This company has called our place of business 3 times to " garnish" wages of an employee.  Only problem is the person they are looking for has never worked for us and they were told this at the first phone call.

Got a call from 800-530-3947 to our place of business ( dental practice). This is the 3rd phone call placed to our office by this company.  The first call the Dr. himself spoke to the person because they said they were going to garnish an employee's wages but we had not employee by that name.  They called again on 9/9/09 with the same line about garnishing wages but this time the doctor did not take the call.  Just called again today and wanted our payroll department about garnishing an employee's wages. I explained the doctors were not available and she said " then give me your payroll department" I told her the doctors did payroll and this was the 3rd call from the company and that the doctor had already talked to them and we did not have an employee by that name.  Now she claims it's another employee.  She can call everyday for all I care and she will never get the payroll department.

I love these calls and can be just as rude as they are. I enjoy putting them on hold until they hang up.  Such losers

I was on the phone when Miss Johnson called again for the third time.  What's happening is that if there is no answer on my phone she is hitting "0" which forwards the call to another co-worker.  Again, she is harassed my co-worker.  Miss Johnson wanted her to get up and look for me.  Today I have mailed a complaint to the FCC, I filed a complaint online with the FTC and the Missouri Attorney General's office.  This company has quite a few complaints against them on the Missouri Attorney General's website.  When I get home tonight and am no longer at work I will call them but I don't want to do it at work because I don't think the language I will be using will be workplace friendly.

Miss Johnson from this company called back again while I was at lunch.  She left a message that this was an attempt to collect a debt on my message machine.  Then she called my boss's secretary again, identified herself and the company she works for.  My boss's secretary said she does not have time for talking to bill collectors.  Miss Johnson asked for the Human Resources number here.  My boss's secretary gave it to them and says that she talked to this woman several months ago and gave her the Human Resources number then.  Who do I call about this harrassment?  This is the second time in one day this Miss Johnson talked to my boss's secretary besides leaving me a message.

A Miss Johnson from this company just called my boss's secretary and left a message with her even identifying the name of their company.  Now my boss's secretary knows I am getting calls about my student loan.  These people just hound me to death at work and have threatened me.  I don't answer their calls because I know their numbers so I guess they have gone a step further and identified themselves to one of my co-workers.  Is this legal?

I just received a call from this company wanting to rehabilitate some of my husband's student loans. The information seems off to me, we do owe money but I have been paying with another company.

They first asked for me, not for my husband. They then would not give me their information till I flat out said. Look, the reason I want you to identify yourself is that I need to know this isn't a phishing scam.  After that they seemed to be willing to be open.

They wanted 3 refrences as well and I wasn't too happy about giving out the personal information of family members. I think that should be illegal in the case of student loans. There is enough protecting them from having to give up money, how about protecting the privacy of others?

Actually, they may have the wrong contact information, but the company is legitimate, and I have double-checked their information with the BBB.  Maybe consider changing the way you talk to/deal with them, and you should have no problems.

They do skip-tracing, and people have lied about who lives there, but be careful about giving out personally identifying information.

Actually, they are a legitimate company, they mainly handle student loans, as well as other issues.  Granted, they do have troubles finding the right person, but I have been dealing with them for the past several months for a student loan rehabilitation, and it has gone just fine, without a problem.  They were considerate, and worked with me.

The 636-925-5300 is for their office in St. Charles, MO, and most of the student loan collections/rehabilitations come from this number.

An associate in our payroll department at my employer received a phone call from Ms. Baker 'from the Department of Education' asking that I give her a call in regards to a past due student loan that they may garnish wages about.  Her phone number is 1-800-530-3947.  The woman in our payroll dept wouldn't give her my phone number because she sounded like she wanted to harass me.  Lovely... theses people are ruthless!  File harassment reports and hopefully the FCC will do something!

At 9 a.m. CST I received a call from a woman who insisted on talking with my wife, constantly using her first name. She refused to tell me what she wanted or what the purpose of the call was. She said it was in reference to collection and that this was a "federal agency with the federal government who has lots of attorneys." She kept wanting my wife's birthdate and the last four digits of her Social Security Number. I immediately recognized this as a scam, trying to get all the personal information possible. She did give her name as "Mrs. Baker" and the call-back number as 800-530-3947 to Financial Asset Management Systems. What a hoax: My wife and I have no debt .

They have another number 636-925-5300 that they use to harass countless of others. Has nothing to do with any bills. Seems like they call asking for the wrong person for something that has nothing to do with you.
