They don't leave a message. But they do try to disguise their CID. Blocked their number and sent Cease and Desist letter. I've had the same # for over 30 years and have never owed a dime. So they are seriously in error by calling my number. Filed complaints with FTC and with agencies that oversee collection agencies.

I got a voicemail saying they wanted info about debt collection & they asked me to call 800-540-9011. My phone showed the call came from Visalia, CA 559-733-7550. Sounds like a scam to me so I'm not calling them back.  They couldn't even pronounce my name right! They said to call 866-582-5071 to remove my phone number but I'm not calling that number either.

Yep! Number 800-5409011 is the FCN, Financial Credit Network, how misleading that name is! You would think from the name alone that they be like a Credit Union offering credit NOT attempting to collect old debts. They called me looking for another person, not here, then tried to interrogate me into giving them that person! I don't know that person but if the a***ole wants to push it I'll push back! So I interrogated him {Moses} He couldn't take it coming back at him so I told him "I will sue you and the FCN, Funny Chicken Nuggets owned by Ms Sundstrom-Parks if you call me again! You've been warned! and Moses find a real job, something you might like!" Man! This was as much fun as listening to Kevin Nealon well, almost as funny!

Moses from "Visalia" (as that was all the information he would give me regarding where he was calling from) wanted to speak with someone here who was busy at the time... I advised his that this person wanted to know what the call was regarding... He told me the same exact thing that he had previously told me, of which I had already tried to get additional information from him afterwards to no avail... When I told him we could have a circle conversation for the rest of the day if he would like as I was going to keep asking the same questions if he kept giving me the same answers, he became upset and started speaking in a louder, more aggressive(and I'm sure in his little ignorant, wannabe tough-guy head, scarier) voice asking me my name as if it was going to cause me some undo duress by repeating my question over and over again.... I explained to him that he could just make it easier on both of us if he would just provide a little information and he then started to ask me information regarding where he had called in order to get ahold of said person... I then advised him that that information was a personal matter and that he would have to give me a additional information for me to be able to divulge that information to him... I then started to laugh a little, of which I'm sure he could tell by my voice and speaking manner, and he immediately hung up on me...  Sounds like me that Moses doesn't like his job very much as the small amount of returned non-information really seemed to upset him... Maybe he should think about that before me makes the calls and disturbs people for what is probably a fraudulent claim anyway based on what I am reading on these forums about this "company."

Also, isn't that "quant" that the owner of this "co" also chairs the board of the California Association of Collectors, Inc... Sounds like an extreme conflict of interest to me that she has that "position" and also owns a co for which the "association" (as per their website)  "provides a platform for its members to unite and better the collection industry in California."  How ironic that the industry as a whole has such a bad name because of it's collection practices due to companies JUST LIKE THE ONE SHE OWNS, and yet, she chairs the "'assoc" the provides a "platform to unite and better" the industry...  And UNBELIEVABLY her own company doesn't follow or practice the same codes and policies that as per the Federeal Trade Commision, " All members of the California Association of Collectors must abide by a strict Code of Ethics which illustrates our commitment to the highest professional standards," even though she is on the Board of the CAC... Wow, who'da thought???

HOW TO THROTTLE BOGUS CALLS (updated 03/21/2012)

Ok, here's a solution if your phone has a contacts list--it works quite well on my iPhone, which allows unlimited phone numbers for any contact.

Step 1, create a contact named something like these names
           IGNORE JUNK CALL
           SCAMMING SCUMBAGS
           FRAUDSTERS LIST
                        .....

Step 2, select a SILENT ring type for this contact.  Or, select a distinctly unusual ring tone like
            CRICKETS or
            MOTORCYCLE  or
            RIFLE...

This lets you know if a repeat caller is on the line, but I prefer the silence myself.  My iPhone lights up showing the caller ID, even though I have a silent ring.

Step 3. Enable CALLER ID to be displayed for incoming calls that are made to your phone. It's a pity these stealth calls UNKNOWN, or OUT OF AREA, or their ilk, can't be blocked by any phone I know about. My iPhone won't let me put these names where the phone number field is entered.

So, what you do is to put the phone numbers of all bogus and scam callers that contact you, or try to call you, in this special contact.

Also, unless you recognize a toll free number owner, let all calls of this type go unanswered, and if no
voicemail is left, add the Caller ID (their  phone  number) into the                    IGNORE JUNK CALL contact.

Also add any other bogus calls
you get or know about, well they go in this contact too.

This may mean also all callers that don't leave a voice mail, or are soliciting you for services or products who you don't have a business relation with. And slime bags you don't want to talk to, like that jerk at the bar, or your ex.

For new toll free and also out of area calls: run these numbers
through Google search to see if they have been reported as junk or have been identified by others as scams.

Don't call an unsolicited  toll-free number back, it captures your own phone number, and you will get on other scam lists to call you.

Toll free numbers all have area codes from this list: codes 800, 888, 877, 866,  and codes reserved for future expansion include 844, 833, 822, 880 through 887, and 889.

FURTHER: Don't take the default voice mail prompt that came with your phone, because it usually
speaks your phone number and indicates you aren't around to pick up the call and maybe even speaks your name as well.

Record a new one
like "Sorry I missed you, your message will be appreciated".
Friends will know your voice. Scammers, not so often.

My list is long now, my silent ring saves me from tons of spam and scam, and yes, the do not call list is worthless, and toothless as well.

Please feel free to copy this post anywhere, and to any forum.

Consider writing a letter or email to your phone supplier, or your congressman to fix this awful state of affairs, and to put some teeth into the DO NOT  CALL law. Ask them to shut down the services that allow fake telephone numbers to be used as well.

They called trying to collect a bill from AT&T.  I ordered DSL service from AT&T, but it never worked and after 2 days of trying to get it to work I canceled it.  After ONLY 2 weeks they sent a months bill to this collection agency.  I finally got someone from AT&T around Thanksgiving and they said they would credit my account the full amount on 12/26.  Why it would take a month I have no idea.  It this doesn't get resolved I will contact our local TV station that does troubleshooting and I'm sure they will get it resolved.

Received call with request to return call and use reference number.  I returned call spoke to Mrs. Cortez, she asked a lot of questions and admitted that they sometimes get the wrong number.  Finally she disclosed what the call referenced, a bill.  When told that it was not our bill she stated that she would remove my number.  It appears that they are given an deliquent account from a creditor and just do random phone searches to locate the person who has failed to pay their account.  This is annoying since I have a fairly common name.  There must be a better way for them to research than calling every person in my area with my name.  If they call again, I will pursue legal action.

I switched phone carriers-from Tmobile to Verizon. Since I am now with Verizon I have been getting endless calls not just from Financial Credit Network but from other 800 numbers claiming to be Verizon and other groups. I receive up to 7 phone calls a day from these numbers - I have called my
phone service and blocked the numbers for FREE - this lasts 60 days- they also look into the numbers and report them.

Listen, guys, be reasonable here.

You are being contacted by them because you have a past-due bill that needs to be collected.

They called me earlier today and left a reference number. I called them back a few hours later, confirmed with my name and DOB, and paid an old gas bill for $26 when I was living in California over 6 months ago. Since I took care of it right away it didn't affect my credit.

If you don't take care of this stuff ASAP it negatively affects your credit score.

If you are getting called by accident or something, then sure, do what you need to get them off your case. Generally, though, REAL collection agencies aren't looking to blind-dial numbers all day. Just pay your bills.

It's nice to know that you were previously employed for the company. Seems you have great anger and are upset with the company. If your so confident that "you made the decision" to leave. Honestly I think you weren't smart and skilled enough to handle working for them. Financial Credit Network is staffed with educated, open minded and caring employees. If the person calling is asking for you, give them a call back see what they have to say, If they are in fact asking for someone that you do not know please call back   to make their office aware and the phone number will be removed. Have a great day and "Maria" good luck with your new "security" job.

FINANCIAL CREDIT NETWORK DOES VOLUME WORK FOR AT&T. THEY HAVE A DIALER THAT CALLS ALL THE LISTED NUMBERS ON THEIR COMPUTER. THEIR ONLY GOAL IS TO COLLECT AND THAT IS HOW THEY PROGRAM THESE POOR PEOPLE THAT WORK FOR THEM. THEIR STAFF CONSIST OF VERY POOR EDUCATED PEOPLE OFTEN WITH NO HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMAS. HOW DO I KNOW THIS? I USE TO WORK FOR THEM UNTIL I SAW HOW PEOPLE ARE TREATED BY MANAGEMENT AND THE SUPERVISORS THAT DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING THEMSELVES.  BIG TURNOVER IN THIS COMPANY. THEY CALL VARIOUS STATES SO BEST THING TO DO IS FIND OUT WHAT YOUR RIGHTS ARE IN YOUR STATE AND FILE FORMAL COMPLAINTS OR THE FTC-FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION.  CEO DOES NOT WANT TO PAY OUT MONEY AND ENOUGH SANCTIONS WILL MAYBE STOP HER FROM STAFF FROM BOTHERING YOU. AND AS FAR AS EXTENSIONS, THE SAME PERSON WILL NEVER PICK UP BECAUSE THE CALLS GO ONTO AN ASSEMBLY LINE OF COLLECTORS AND IT IS WHOEVER ANSWERS THE PHONE.
