I was called from a 615 area code, and answered, because that's n my state. They said they were Verifax and gave a 800 # to call back. She said her name was Jesse , but could barely speak English! She's not Jesse ! She might be Kung ho ! Or some other foreign name!

Verifacts called not the personell dept of the company that I work for but the garage instead and tricked the mechanic into thinking they were a company that I had applied to for employment. They asked him in depth questions about everything from punctuality to my integrity.

As an HR person, I completely agree. I never release info without a signed court order or an employee waiver. Too many risks.

How are folks supposed to keep and job and pay their bills when collection companies are interfering with your employment?
Andrew 2013-12-26 22:25:43 Unknown
They claimed it was a credit verification and their main office is from Bangalore India. They called my mental health agency and left a message to the receptionist to call. And I am unemployed and disabled. So I presume that it is some scam or other.

Actually, your rudeness verifies what people are saying about the people who work for your company

they talked my dad into giving them my cell number and now they are harrassing me at work and might loose my job because of this!!!!

Do not release any information to these people! They fail to state that indeed their pupose is to obtain information to sell to collection agencies. This is illegal, sue them like so many others are doing.

412-836-4132 has called me about 5 times for the past week
Megan 2012-10-25 14:15:51 Unknown
repeated calls from a company called Verifax or Verifacts. They call multiple times every day, never leave a message. I do not have caller id so I don't have the phone number they call from. If I do answer, there's a delay and then an automated message saying this has been a call from Verifax or Verifacts.
So ANNOYING and absolutely ridiculous that they are allowed to do this type of calling. Heaven help me if I ever answer and it's a live person, they're going to get an earful!!

It is illegal for a debtors or their representatives to call a person's place of employment UNLESS they have a court order and pursuing garnishment. If you receive a court document showing a court date, make sure you show up, or the debtor will win by default! If a garnishment is being pursued, they can only collect a nominal amount (each state may be different, but I believe it is about 10% of your pay BEFORE taxes). If a company harrasses your employer, contact your state Attorney General's Office and report them. Don't waste your time with the Better Business Bureau. They have no legal power over stopping a creditor. I hope this helps!

Billy 2011-06-06 20:58:01 Unknown
This number is calling my employer and I am not happy. I don't remember giving anyone the permission to call my work. This is bad and could get me in big trouble with my employer. This kind of stuff needs to be stopped.

also, if you want to return the call yourself you can choose to push # plus the extension number. you will just be put in the call from home guys mailbox and can leave whatever information or mis-information you want to get them off yer back.

They've been calling from different numbers and even called a relative of mine. They indicated they are looking for "employment verification" because I had filled out an application. Total BS. If your relative answers one question they will ask 10 more. Make no mistake about it, it is a collection call unless you used to have a newspaper subscription. They hire people to call from their homes (apparently this is a low paying work at home job - and they don't get paid if they get an answering machine) so you might see local or out of state phone numbers but they ask you to return the call to the 800 number above. Oddly, same number from Sterling IL, 815-380-9503, also called me directly looking for a relative of mine!
If you ask them to take you off their call list, they just route your number to another one of their work-from-home jockeys. They must work closely with the credit companies like TRW, because they are able to pull phone numbers and information from credit applications going as far back as student loan information. Best thing to do is ignore the calls or change your number. Let your relatives know not to pass out your personal information. If they contact your employer seeking employment verification all they can legally ask is if you are still employed there ("active" or "inactive"). Their collection practices are very aggressive and work on the fringe of legality. Someday, they are going to get nailed with a major lawsuit for violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act because their work-at-home folks are poorly trained.
