Never accept a call from a collector! When you receive such a call, the first thing to ask is who are you?; what company are you with?; and then say "I do not accept calls from companies like yours. You can contact me by mail if you wish, but do not call me again". Never accept a call that asks you to call back on a certain number. Believe me, if a call you receive is from someone you do not know is important, they will contact you by mail. And if you don't know them, no matter what they say on the telephone, they are either trying you to identify specific information or to admit something. Remember; no one is gong to give you something for nothing; and no one is going to single you out amongst millions in order to award you money. Regardless, the best approach is to always get in in writing. Don't give them your address to send you any mail. If they really know who you are, they will respond by mail; otherwise, don't be stupid! This is a Bank of America number related to 401k's, This bank is notorious for its lack of specific information, inner department failure to deliver the same information, and general lack of knowledge. In fact, many customer service reps give out false information because they don't know anything. Plus, your wait to wade through this quagmire of ignorance will take you up to an hour.
