Apparently it's a debt collector.  From what I know, I can't distinguish if it's a scam, somebody trying to collect money that you didn't realize was an automatic thing when you sign up for a free sample, or if it's legitimate.

Greetings,

I am an Investigator with the Volusia County Sheriff's Office in Florida. We shut this business down on January 24th. Anyone who actually paid money to ADSF is encouraged to call me at 386-668-3830. The entity who called you was operating from Orange City, Fl.  The entity providing your personal information is still operating out of Newport Beach, Ca.  Per Florida law we need to demonstrate a certain amount of victims before proceeding against the Ca entity. I will ask you to participate in a recorded interview. I will ask you what was said by ADSF, what was threatened, if the debt was legitimate, and how much you paid.  I will also provide you with a case number for your CC company.

She may have voluntarily given out her card number but that was before she'd realized it was a SCAM. This is FRAUD, not a dispute, and her card issuer should refund the money and get her a new card. You dispute a billing error but this is FRAUD, not a billing error.

My mother received a call 1/20/2011 from someone claiming to be from "ADSF" or "American Debt Specialists," with a call back to a 'Kimber' at 1-800-566-0794 x103. Same story as all above, claimed she owed them $80 (quickly reduced to $60) for something purchased as a trial in 2009. Claimed her credit would be damaged if she didn't pay up immediately. Unfortunately, mom gave the card number and a charge was posted to her account for $60 on 1/24/11. She reported her card lost and froze the account, but since she gave out the card number, dispute is the resolution we have to follow.

The description for the charge is 'EVSFINANCIAL8007359189 800-735-9819 CA'. We're in the process of disputing it.

Marika--
Your Mom was right. NEVER pay a debt collector without first obtaining validation that you legitimately owe the debt!

While you are at it, I would also notify the Federal Trade Commission. One of their collectors admitted in a recent post this company she works for is a third party collection agency and claims to "have all the info" on the debts they are collecting for Advanced Fitness Labs. If this is true, this makes ASDF accountable under the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act), if they broke any applicable Federal consumer protection laws, including their failure to cooperate with your request for debt validation as well as making threats to report an unvalidated debt to the credit bureaus unless you pay them immediately. They may have broken other FDCPA laws as well, if they did not inform you at the beginning "This call is from a debt collector and information obtained will be used for that purpose" (Mini-Miranda). They also have to meet licensing (and bonding requirements, in some states). If they aren't, then they are operating illegally.

Go here to file a complaint with the FTC: http://www.ftc.gov/ftc/contact.shtm

I would also contact your state's respective consumer protection agency.

For more information on your consumer rights under the FDCPA, go to:

Same thing--the problem is I was traveling and having a terrible week and couldn't Google these @ssholes while I had them on-line. Besides, she was very nice the first time.
I paid the $80 thinking it was the lesser of two evils--pay $80 or have your credit dinged.
As soon as I hung up with this ASDF chick, my mom called and when I told her what happened, she told me to never ever pay unless they can provide written documentation of the debt.
Based on my mom's advice, I called my credit card company that I had JUST put the $80 charge on and told them I wanted to dispute the charge. They told me to wait until it posted so I put it on my calendar to call back Monday. (Today is Sunday and the charge was from last Tuesday.)
Then just a moment ago, the phone rings again and it's the same Damn story. This time, I had a little more confidence in telling her that I wouldn't pay it unless she could provide documentation that I owed it and she said I had been notified three times via email. I told her that wasn't substantial. (I didn't mention that one of her so-called co-workers had already called me last week to extort the debt.) She gave me the same run-around when I told her I needed a call back number so I could check with my husband. She gave me a variation of that same 800-566 number that everybody else has. She said her supervisor was Cory Stark. She said ADSF Collections is in Florida--but the address online says NOrth Carolina, I think.
I called my credit card company back and am getting a new card number because I was dumb enough to pay it the first time. I never could find the card that she originally referenced, but again--I don't know how she knew that I had actually even ordered Resveratrol. And yes, she had my address, etc. I would have to guess that the folks behind Reservatrol are ultimately behind this working both ends of it. They should get scam and fraud alerts posted on their website too--which is actually my next stop.

Same thing, call received Jan 18 @ 6:25 PM. The caller's name was "Joby". Same call back #, ext 104. $80 purchase made April 1, 2009. They were willing to settle for $50 if paid right now. Joby could not provide any specifics about what product was purchased or a reference #/account#, etc. for when I called back. After I remained insistant that I never made any purchase from that company and I thought this was a scam, Toby said he would remove this from their accounts and we would be cleared. He said he has heard similar stories about "Advanced Fitness Laboratories" from others he has tried to call. Yeah, right. Based on the other stories here, it's their own story.

Someone from this number claiming to be from ADSF Claims Service has been calling me.  Their number shows up as 980/225-1246.  I thought it might be a scam the first time they called.  I told them the creditor should send me a letter in writing about the so-called debt I've incurred with them if they want me to pay, but I've never heard anything about it until this call.

Same story as everyone else.  The man on the phone was so pushy and ruid. His name was Raymond.  Beware of him!!! I would not give him my information and he was getting nastier and nastier.  I told him that if he wanted money from me he should be nice.  When I told him that he could call me back tommorrow after I research his company and contacted my lawyer he hung up on me.  I called John Taylor his manager he said that he would take the approriate actions to Raymond in this manner and he would clear all charges and take my name off their list.  Funny that if I owe this debt they can take my name off their list with one call and clear all charges. Funny!

They are still at it, just happened to me too. Same thing as everyone else with the Resveratrol Colon Cleanse $80 claim that I didn't pay from a trial sent to me on 3/1/2009. . It sounded really fishy when I said do you have a case number or reference number when I call back. They sounded so convincing. The woman who spoke to me said her name was Cory Smith. 1-800-566-0794, ext. 103 Tried to call back to see who answered and there was a message machine. I am reporting this to the BBB.

I JUST got a call from ADSF.  Thank goodness I googled it while on the phone.  The man, who claims his name is Tim Turner, said he was following up a claim from 2009 of $80 I owed to advanced fitness for a resveratol product.  He was very pushy and quite convincing.  He also said that if I did not resolve it right then, the debt would go to collections.  I told him I first wanted to look into it and I'd get back to him.  He gave me the number of (800) 566-0794. I am SO glad I did not give him a cc#!!!

The same thing here in Michigan. One call yesterday and another today. I wouldn't give the caller my name and instead kept asking who they were and how they got my name. Next time i'm going to ask the caller if they know Jesus and start quoting Scripture about truthfulness. :-)

the number that they called from was 980.225.1246

I got a call from these jokers on 1-17-11.  Same story as everyone else.  They said I owed ~$80 for Vitamins or health items like a colon cleansing system.  They also stated that the invoice was given to them from Advanced Fitness Labratory.  I asked for information about the Vendor because I knew I had not ordered anything.  "Tim" told me that he did not have the information and if I did not pay today then it would reflect negativly against my credit.  I tried many times to call back to ask more questions , but they will not answer.  The Message does sound like a regular run of the mill company with voice mail and music while you wait.  He alos had my card number and address, but they did mess up my name.

I know scam artists can get phone numbers, but how are they getting information from past credit card transactions for trial purchases online? The guy knew the product I had ordered, the last 4 of my credit card number, and the year of the transaction. What do you know? He said I owed $80. I know for a fact that I owe no money. He said I'd have to show him an email from the company saying everything had been paid in full. They are trying to trick you because the transactions are over a year ago and so you worry you might not be remembering correctly. I never got anything from the actual company saying I owe money (REZ-V) and I have never received anything by mail or email. The guy that called me is Raymond. He was trying to sound all pushy and like he knew everything. I just started asking him questions and interrupting him. It just made him more pushy. I thought it was funny because I wasn't about to give him any info. I asked him what case # was assigned to my collection and he said, "Oh, we don't do it that way here." He said ADF doesn't stand for anything, it just makes it easy to find in an online search. What?

Thank God I checked with the better business office before giving info. over the phone. After double checking the phone @ 1-800-566-0794 x103 which supposedly the manager answered the line which was for customer service. Really?? John Taylor??? I talked to a Cory and she said she was calling from Orange City FL and they were collecting on a charge from colon cleansing in 2009?? Like Theresa, they told me I owed $80 as my credit card was denied? The company Advanced Fit Labs Health Products doesn't exist on line and neither does the collection agency. This is definetly a SCAM. The woman from the better business bureau told me that the company collecting a debt must do so in writing and if they can't do that, DO NOT GIVE THEM INFO.

This is a scam collection agency. The first call is from Mooresville, N.C. saying your credit card denied a $80.00 charge for a colon cleansing product on 9/17/2009. They use the same amount and date to everyone they call, and then they leave you the 800 number to call back, they also have the last 4 digits of one of your charge cards hoping you tell them to go ahead and run it thru again. DO NOT DO THIS IT IS A TOTAL SCAM!!!  The number they originally call from is actually a fax number and it is 704-230-4142. If you google this number you will see all the complaints about this scam. BEWARE!!!!!!
