I called CO-OP Credit Union.  I do have an account there.  This is the 2nd time I've gotten one of these
text messages.  They said that it is a scam.  They will ask you for all of the digits on your card so it can be "reactivated",  and then they will use it on the internet.  Do not give them your numbers.  Better yet...don't call them back.

Also received this!

From: 1600
Message:  COOP Services CU Note: Your card starting with 4626 has been deactivated.  Please contact us at 866-584-5771 to reactivate your card.
Received: April 20, 2010 at 10:56am

Obviously it sounds like a scam, so I searched for it online, but I'm tempted to call back... just because I want to know!

Me too dudeman. I don't like that the FROM # was my own. I actually called COOP Services Credit Union and their automated message says to email them at abuse@cscu.org to report these texts.

I'm very careful with my info and this scares me.

My whole family received: +1 Security Bank Alert : Your card has been DEACTIVATED. Please contact us at 800-568-0723 to REACTIVATE your CARD. CB:800-568-0723. ---- It is hosted by RingCentral, Inc 999 Baker Way 5th Floor San Mateo, CA 94404 phone # 888-528-7464. After spending 20 minutes on the phone, they even gave me a ticket #, they would not tell me who had been using the #. Anybody claiming to have a business can get a toll free # through them. They have now deactivated the # but will not release the name of who was using it. RingCentral is helping to facilitate these scams for short periods of times. Be aware you will get a similar message again just from a different #, probably also hosted by RingCentral. Everyone needs to file a complaint with either your local BBB and/or with them in CA. If RingCentral can not verify a legitmate business then they don't need to be in the business. If you gave them any personal info then you need to file a police report before your credit is ruined. You can also file a complaint with the FTC and your states Attoney Generals Office.

I received a text message to my cell phone that my CARD was Deactivated (they did not even try to designate any card numbers) and to call 800-568-0723 to reactivate it. I'm in Kansas. The text messages shows it came from "+1" and says "Security Bank Alert". I called the number later in the day to see if I could identify anything about the origin but I only got a message saying the mailbox was full. I would love to see these folks prosecuted, this kind of scam is not humorous or trivial.

We received the same message on 3/13/10 on the cell phone:  Security Alert: Card has been deactivated. Please call 800 568-0723 to reactivate.  I *67'd and called the # and a recording said that "this mailbox is full".  Please try your call again later.  I wish we could stop this kind of bull.

I did not call the #, not interested.  If it has anything to do with a real credit card #, YOUR BANK, WON'T HESITATE TO CALL YOU PERSONALLY AND ASK IF SOMETHING IS UP WITH YOUR CARD OR YOU CAN CALL YOUR BANK AND GET THE INFO.

Got text from this number on a relatively new cell phone. The call said my card had been deactivated and to call the number. Didn't call and have no cards that need activation. I think it's a scam, be very careful with all personal information. This being a new phone I haven't even given the number to ANY business I deal with on a regular basis.

I got this message but the FROM: indicated it came from my own number. I don't like that at all. Also the bank they told ME was a fairly local/regional bank in my area, looks like they do a litttle homework too. I don't like this and plan to call my provider and tell them about this so they can backtrack and hopefuly coordinate with a state/federal agency to find the source.

I have also just received a text message from COOP Services CU.  This is an obvious scam in that I don't hold membership in that supposed credit union.  Please be careful out there, those of you with an account.  It looks as if they are spamming the cellular lines today!!  Good luck all and be well!!

I just received the same text "Co op Credit Services".  I used to work in a bank.  Mastercards start with a 5 and Visas start with a 4.  I don't have a Visa so I did not call the number back because I knew it was a scam since the number is supposed to starte with "4626".
