This is a scam.   Do not give it a second of your time or thought.  Throw the card away.

How it works:  You have to pay fees and taxes up front to reserve the alleged cruise (which never is awarded).  The fees and taxes are paid by credit card and held for 60 days - after which point, you have no recourse to recover them.  The cruise will never happen.   Please trust your instincts - if it's too good to be true, it probably isn't.

I got the postcard on 4/11/11. If this were really the 800 number for Carnival or US Airlines, it would have shown up as such on Google. What did we get when we did the Google search? We got those "who called me" websites. It's a scam. They say on the card that "We have been trying to call you." Oh, yea? I've had this number attached to my hip for years. If you had called, it would have rung/vibrated. Nice try.

I just got the same postcard today. We did call them and they said that you have to attend a vacation club seminar. After reading this, We decided not to attend the seminar. It is not worth it. I don't want to give someone our financial information. I would not recommend it.

I went to similar presentations and sat through a boring presentation for 90 minutes or so.  At the end we received vouchers for some vacation (this was couple of years back)  When we called the number they told us to send $50 as the processing fee for claiming our vacation, which we did.  We received a packet and then the problems.  We are supposed to indicated the dates when we will be using the vacation.  We mailed the card with dates (I think it was two dates).  I got a reply back saying the dates are all filled and so I was pick new dates.  This happened three, four times and every time it was the same thing.  Pick new dates as the you chose are all filled up.  Finally I got frustrated and asked them to refund me the $50 fee I paid (It was one of the options) I never heard back from them though I wrote couple of letters after that.  Same thing happened to my sister too.

The scam appears to be to sell some vacation club membership, timeshare etc and in return give you so called vouchers for your cruise/air fare etc which they have no intention of honoring.  And finally after a few months of operation close shop, declare bankruptcy and move elsewhere and start a new company and do this all over.

Aimee Cramer probably in on the scam.  The postcard I received with this phone number has copied the U.S. Airways logo but it says "Fly a US Airlines".

Think about it.  There are not companies just looking to give away free stuff to you and the thousands of us got these postcards.  I haven't figured out what the full scam is, but you'll either pay in the end through hidden charges or worse they just wanted your financial info to be able to charge your accounts.  By the time you figure out what happened they will have run away with the money.

Hello,

I received the same offer not long after my husband and I came home from an 8 day, 7 night cruise on Holland America which also owns Carnival...odd. I'm not sure if the 1-800 # is the same as I don't have the offer with me but the offer sounds very similar.

I called the # and I reached Phillip, a marketing rep, and I learned that this is a local travel company (Indianapolis) and we have been identified as individuals that travel frequently and meet their target demographics. There are certain age and income restrictions and you must carry a credit card- not a debit card. Although he never asked for my credit card number, which would have been a big red flag! You also must agree to sit through a 90 minute presentation/pitch at a local hotel. They will also include airfare (Alaska and Hawaii excluded) if we agree to attend a seminar during the call. We did. We will attend on Thursday of this week. We don't have much to lose other than 90 minutes of our time so we are going to check it out as we travel often.

Other fine print details include black out periods (major holidays excluded) and the "outside room" is actually a porthole room, not a balcony room. The travel company also charges an annual or monthly fee for different membership tier levels (based on estimated use) but he assured me that the voucher for the cruise and flights were good even if we did not sign up for a membership....we shall see.

The voucher is good for 12 months but you must give them 90 days notice on the cruise that you choose to take.

I got the same card. (I'm in Calif.) Threw it away.  There's no such thing as "free", there has to be a hidden agenda.  Has anyone ever heard of a large corp. simply giving such things away!?!

Wow.  I just got this as well.  It was sent to my Sacramento address and forwarded to my new house in Florida.  The irnoy is that I was just yesterday checking prices for a cruise.  Would appreciate it if anyone learns more.  I also find it ridiculous that there's no company name or contact, and the card specifically says "This promotion is not sponsored by or affilliated with Carnival..."  I'm not really down for a sales pitch.  Too good to be true, indeed.

Just got the same card in the mail today. I agree with Rick, a scam is a scam unless you give complete details about your company.

First received phone call and told them I'm on the national do not call registry and to not call back.  Then received post card a few days later offering a "Complimentary 8 day Cruise" in "Celebration of our Anniversary in your area."  But, there is NO COMPANY NAME or ADDRESS, just the phone .  Small print says deposits, reservation fees, processing fees, port charges and taxes are the responsibility of the recipient.

If looks like a scam, sounds like a scam, and smells like a scam...

I also got the offer for a 8day/7night cruise and 2 air fare tickets if I would attend a seminar within 48 hours.
We sat thru a presentation for a get-a-way vacation company.  They were selling memberships for a vacation discount company.  We were given cards to send in cruise $98.00 and $35 ea for flights.
Send in checks and receive a package back in mail.  Not sure if this is a scam?  If it's to good to be true...
