I have been charged 66.49 a month. I never look at my paper billing so haven't noticed it. I called union plus and they couldn't block the charges. Called the 800 number and they said they would stop the charges and reimburse my acct back to 2010. Should I believe them? I don't think so I guess I'll wait until next billing and then of no luck I will contact the attorney general

This is the second time I have found these fraudulent charges on my card they do not nor have they ever been given permission from me to charge any thing from my card. This is interstate wire fraud. This is criminal. This is a long running phone scam and bank fraud, This is consumer fraud.I am turning this over to the United States Atuorney General and the Dept of Justice.  HSBC needs to pick out  a fall guy to go to the federal penn for this one.

Wow,,,,I came online to investigate this program and why I was being charged and I found this thread.I never look at my paper statements and it so happens that when I went to look at it just awhile ago and I see I was being charged one dollar..they could have done this a bunch of times and I hadn't realized. This is terribly wrong and hurtful and so arrogant for a company to be doing this so frequently to so many of their customers( I Have an HSBC Card). I specifically told them i do not want this program,What the hell?

Prior to Christmas I received a letter from HSBC Card Services about the Personal Account Protection. Since I had 60 days to respond I waited until today to look at it in detail. When the letter arrived my daughter, an attorney, was home for the holiday and she knew immediately what the letter meant.
I just spoke to the representative from HSBC about this. She told me I had been paying for this since Oct. '10 and although it's not a huge amount I never authorized it. I'm a senior citizen who doesn't need this protection. I was told they would review the tape within the next 45 days and notify me by mail if I qualified for a refund. This makes me question whether they will be honest about what they find. If I do not get a refund I will immediately cancel this card - the balance is less than $150 so I can do without it.
If f anyone needs the phone number it is (877)435-1079.

We, also would like to complain about personalaccountprotection phone service. Asked for a copy of the terms of the agreement, but were told they had to speak to prmary acct. holder, so tried my husband talking to them, and of course he couldn't understand the person. I really want to disenroll from this service, as I think it's a waste of our money and we are on a fixed income and elderly. Hope someone from HSBC reads this and decides to act on it to support their cardholders.

This is ridiculous. I specifically remember saying "NO" to this coverage to the rep (clearly in India) I have been paying for this for 2 years without noticing until this week. My account went over limit because of this FRAUDULENT charge. Not only am I paying for something I NEVER agreed to I got hit with over limit charges. If they do not reverse these charges from the last 2 years and remove this coverage I intend to notify the attorney general. THIS IS STEALING!!! These people should be put in jail for this type of white collar CRIME

SAME HERE! They tried to get me to sign up for it when I called *India* to activate the card. I declined and there it is on my statement, $.08 charged...it's a small amount, but it is stealing!! How many people are they stealing from? It adds up! Let's estimate; one million 8-cent charges per month = $800,000.00 a month STOLEN!

CLASS ACTION!

Same exact thing happened here along with my hounding them quite a few times and still no response.  Very tempted to get lawyer "pro bono" ( spelled wrong I am sure) and make sure these people never take advantage of anyone ever again.   Very irritating!!

We have not used our GM card in awhile as we were paying down the balance and all of a sudden I noticed charges from Personal Account Protection.  I knew I had not approved this and my husband could not have because he was in hospital for a month and when I asked him he said no way.  I called numerous times asking for proof and received letter stating that it was approved and if I wanted to hear the taping to call and arrange for a time.  They have not responded whatsoever after 3 phone calls and I then emailed GM and told them and they responded "Referral has been made to proper channels" but still no answer after 2 more emails.  This is wrong....Just wonder how many people are being cheated out of 50 some odd dollars a month so I am not giving up.  I would like to see if I can find a lawyer who would like to take this case against this credit card program as I can only imagine how many times they get away with it and it is wrong.....I cant afford to pay a lawyer but maybe can find someone who would take it to right a wrong.  anyone interested picklessueh@primelink1.net

Just pay the fee.  No one plans to die but when my husband died, it was sure nice to mail a piece of paper and the bill is gone.  A little more money in the already decimated budget each month.  They really should put a little information on their condolence letters.   I had to try this website to find which company it was from.

Same thing happened to me. On Feb 9 2010 someone from India called me about account protection. I said NO but they billed me $81 per month anyway until I noticed the charges in August 2010. I told them to listen to the conversation I had with them and reverse all charges. Today I got a letter from HSBC stating that I approved the charges on Feb 9 and if I want to hear the conversation I was to call their 800 # and set up an appointment. I'm thinking my time might be better spent calling the FTC, attorney general, or the insurance commission.

GM Card (HSBC) said I signed up for Personal Account Protection ten days ago and the charges were on my statement.  I explaind I had not enrolled and had never enrolled in any such program in my life.  I recently retired and have no need for such a program.  The agent that took my call didn't seem to know much about the program and gave me details that I looked up after our call and she was incorrect.  She told me the charges would not appear if I paid off my debt each month.  Well I have paid it off every month for 20 years and the fee was there.
I kept telling her to cancel my protection and she kept telling what it covered.  I don't know what part of India she was in but I couldn't understand her.  I finally got off the line because I was so angry.  I will call back later today.  I looked it up on the webpage and it says a person can cancel within the first 30 days with no charges.  It seems Customer Service has nothing to do with this protection service as they just give you this same number to call.  I am too angry to call right now but I will be calling them back soon.  I can't believe this treatment after using the GM Card for probably 25 years.  The reason I use it is for the 5% rebate for purchasing vehicles which I have over the years.  I have used close to $8,000 of rebates over the years for Chevrolets.

Well it also happened to me.  Got a call from 800-598-3554 a couple weeks ago wanting to know if I was interested in Personal Account Protection on my HSBC Account.  I declined, and today I was billed for Personal Account Protection on my Credit Card.  Shouldn't this kind of billing be illegal?  I complained to HSBC about a fraudulent charge and also called Personal Account Protection and complained and they said they would cancel my Account with them, but I never had an account with them to start with.  It remains to be seen if I get that charge on my card back.  I told HSBC I had a fraudulent charge but I havn't heard back from them yet.  How can anyone rip people off this way?

Same happened to me as happened to Mark - called HSBC customer services - they refered me to their "insurance services". I got the fraudulent charge reversed eventually and the "protection" cancelled, but they still insisted I'd agreed to the protection - which I absolutely hadn't - So, I emailed customer services to complain at the treatment - they wouldn't have anything to do with it - considering cancelling the card.
