I've received 3 phone calls from them in the last l5 minutes. I didn't answer the first two but the last one I told them in no uncertain terms to stop phoning me immediately and hung up. We'll see what happens now.

Good for you. Even in the rare cases in which you get a solicitation call from a charity you *do* want to support you should always mail a check or donate through their web site. Even if the caller isn't a scammer, almost no charities maintain their own phone banks and operators any more: They usually outsource to third party fundraising services who take a big cut of every donation.

Thank you for stating facts! Emotional outbursts do not help like facts do. Good questions to ask callers about the percentage of funds used for fund raising is_____? Or what percent of the funds you raise actually help feed the children???

Got a call from 800-627-4556. It came up as "Toll Free Calle" on my I.D. The person said they were from Feed the Children. He wanted a contribution for the victims of Oklahoma and even suggested I could put it on my VISA charge card. First off it should have come up on the I.D. "Feed the Children", not just toll-free call. When I asked he use the U.S. Post Office to send me the request in writing, his voice became unsteady.
Bottom line: goes down as a potential scam to me.

It keeps calling our office fax line! So annoying!
| Roona 2013-05-20 22:07:53 Unknown |
The number is listed on their website, but it's very strange that the name isn't revealed on Caller ID. I got a call from this number today and, when I answered, someone said "hello" and then hung up.

I think I've donated to Feed the Children in the past but I always send donations through the mail. As far as I know, this is the first time I've received a telephone solicitation from FTC, if this is actually their number. I say "as far as I know" because, other than the telephone number, the caller ID displays only "TOLL FREE CALLER." Normally when I see those words on my caller ID, the caller is a scammer who is concealing their identity.

Whomever is harrassing me with several calls that I do not answer. No message left either. Grrr!

"Feed the Children" calls too much. I actually answered the call today but no one was there. SCAM. The Feed the Children calls should be avoided or blocked if they will not say anything when they call you.

Got a call on my unlisted DNC call listed number. No message left on the voicemail. Probably a scam or money making third party.

I donated one time and requested not to get sent junk mail and phone calls, but they still continue to call

Five times they called, five times I requested they stop and five times I filed a complaint with the do not call registry (which my number is registered on) and they still call! The line they constantly have called on is a business number as well! This needs to stop! These days NO one has any money extra to spare anyway!
Oh and the person on the other end asked for a "Kathleen", I have had this number for close to five years, it's been listed in my name since and there is no one, has never been no one by that name connected to it. I finally let them 'have it' and forcefully told them to stop calling! We'll see how that goes though ...
Re: Pete. Nice find btw. I, too, did a bit of research regarding "Feed The Children" and came up with much the same finding. It's interesting to note that Charity Watch gave them an "F":
"Feed the Children receives an ?F? grade from AIP because in our opinion it spends only about 14% of its cash budget on program services that are not conducted in conjunction with fundraising. In fiscal 1998, FTC spent almost $13 million on television programs and almost $12.9 million on direct mail and postage. These two items account for about 70% of its $37 million cash budget. FTC, whose primary purpose is to distribute donated goods and supplies to the needy, spent only $944 thousand, or less than 3% of its cash budget, on shipping, handling and storage in fiscal 1998. "

A most interesting article about "Feed the Children" is posted at http://www.charitywatch.org/articles/feedchildren.html
It does not appear to be a "charity" you would want to donate to. As for the telemarketers, may I suggest an appropriate response? My distant cousin, a Dr. Frank Thornton Jenkins, married Narcissa Florence Foster, there after known as Florence Foster Jenkins. She was a truly good person who wanted to sing to her friends and help charities. Unfortunately, "Florence Foster Jenkins (July 19, 1868 ? November 26, 1944) was an American soprano who became famous for her complete lack of rhythm, pitch, tone, and overall singing ability." (from Wikipedia) What does this have to do with telemarketers? you ask. Simple...I have her album "The Glory (????) of the Human Voice" (about 9 bucks from Amazon.com) constantly playing on my CD player with the sound turned down. When I get a call from someone I don't know, I turn the sound up, pick up the phone receiver and set it in front of the CD player's speakers. After a few minutes, I ask if anyone is there...there is never an answer. I have not demeaned myself by getting mad at the caller nor have I insulted someone who is trying to make a living. Perhaps I injected a bit of joy in their lives...'cuz I sure do enjoy imagining what they must be thinking.

I think as charities go, it's kind of bogus. They've had lots of complaints about the low percentage of your donations that actually go to the charity. Admin. expenses and salaries take most of it...including the head guy, who I read pays himself a $400k salary a year. Doesn't sound legit to me.
| anonymous 2011-05-04 04:09:51 Unknown |
*Never* give donations to a stranger who calls you. Might be a scammer. Might be a legit independent fund raiser who keeps 90% for themselves and sends 10% to the charity. Best to find what charity they are collecting for, research the charity to make sure it's legit, get charity contact info from an independent source, then donate *directly* to the charity so they will get 100% of your donation.

I would not mind the call if the caller would stay on the durned line. Rings once and hangs up between 0900-0930 2 and 3 times a week.
