Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

I challenge your "can not talk "statement.  I have had summons served against people.  A relative CAN sign for them in my state.  Are you living in the state of confusion?

Letter by email - suuuuuuuuureeeeeeeeeeeee!!????

You are so full of it even the bulls are running away.
Name the court + document number on the summons.  Who was the person that delivered it?  Pizza Hut does delivery too.  The company won't talk to you??  Get real.

You are in the running for the Nitwit of the Week competition.

What to do?>  Tell the truth that you are part of the scam.

What we are a "buynch" of is people who are sick of illiterate scammers like yourself trying to shake people down for money they do not owe.  Validate the debt and follow the FDCPA or else you are owed nothing.  Put that in your pipe along with whatever other crap you're clearly using and smoke it.

It's quite simple. First of all, you don't pay ANY debt collector ANY money until you have received the required notice of validation. By MAIL! NOT e-mail or fax. As per federal regulation under the FDCPA. Next, you VERIFY everything. Believe NOTHING you're told by the minimum-wage buffoon that is calling you. EVER!
If you're not looking at written proof of a claim, having been received by MAIL, pay NOTHING!
Lastly, I think you're a smoke-blowing, illiterate clown vainly trying to legitimize your fraud-shops scam. You've come to the wrong place to try & do that. We eat shilling frauds for lunch here!

OK, confused now! I paid them, got my letter and I did take out the loan. My husband is disabled and I needed help when we were waiting for his approval so we borrowed from these palces. What other proof should I ask for to make sure I paid correctly?

It could be a real debt. However it may not be, I would call and ask them if you set up a payment then can you get a letter of that arrangment with all their inofrmation on it. I dealt with this company over a debt of mine from BigSkyCash, I have dealt with several payday collection agencies and while they are all scumbags, these were decent. Set up my payment and I got my letter by email. To be served they can't say a word to you when they are serving it all they can say is are you "jane doe." Once you say yes they hand it to you and walk away, if they say anything it is an improper serve so maybe they are calling to make sure you will be where they can find you?

If you were served, you have all of this outfits information. Like their valid physical address, the owner/operators valid name, the name of their attorney, the jurisdiction you were served in, summons number, docket number etc. Post something verifiable & we'll be happy to help you.
Somehow, I doubt you'll be posting a verifiable thing. We hear from people who have been "served" all the time. They never return with anything but more BS. None of us ever have to wonder why.

I've been getting calls saying that they have papers they are going to send over to the county. I never called back. Today I recieved a call from an unknown number and the guy said he was a process server and was set to serve me at my home between 4-6 tonight. He gave this number to call for questions. Scary. I'm considering calling the police.

They won't stop calling me! I never answer, they leave me rude voicemails. They have changed their story numerous times now trying to get me to call them anyway they possibly can. After reading all of the above. I'm not calling them back and I'm not answering their calls. I even blocked their number and now they are calling under a no caller I.D number.

Caller ID from 800-628-1460 shows "US Department of Fraud".  Upon answering incoming call, a pre-recorded message plays stating there might be fraud involving your name and SS# and requests a call back to the same phone number.  There is no such "US Dept. of Fraud".  The Dept of Justice does have a fraud department but these schemers are not DOJ.  DO NOT divulge any personal information.

Called and left a message, said they had a claim with "your name and social security number" but didn't give a name of whom they were looking for. If they can't tell me who they are calling for, I won't call them back.

Any ideas who these folks are?  The first caller identified themselves as "American Consulting Group" but would not send any information via mail. The second caller gave no company name.
