These people call our house and ask for a person we do not know.  We have had the same phone number for 30 years.  This is crazy.  They say they are trying to collect a debt.

They call almost every day and I answer "hello" but there is no one there.  Then I hear a "click click" sound and then it hangs up on me.

I'd almost prefer it was a creditor so I could at least talk to someone and tell them to stop calling!!!  My callerID just says "TOLL FREE NUMBER".

THIS IS A BILL COLLECTOR BUT THEY ARE PLAYING GAMES, THE COLLECTIONS THEY ARE TRYING TO GET FROM ME, I AM MAKING MONTHLY PAYMENTS TO MY CREDITORS, SO I WOULD FIND OUT WHO THEY ARE TRYING TO COLLECT FOR AND CALL THEM!  MY CREDITORS DO NOT KNOW WHY THEY ARE CALLING ME BECAUSE I AM IN GOOD STANDING WITH THEM.

The Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act ("FDCP Act")15 USC 1692 et seq is intended to eliminate abusive and deceptive debt collection practices.  It only applies to consumer, not commercial transactions.

Regarding contacting third-parties it provides at 15 USC 1692c(b):

(b) Communication with third parties Except as provided in section 1692b of this title, without the prior consent of the consumer given directly to the debt collector, or the express permission of a court of competent jurisdiction, or as reasonably necessary to effectuate a postjudgment judicial  remedy, a debt collector may not communicate, in connection with the collection of any debt, with any person other than the consumer, his attorney, a consumer reporting agency if otherwise permitted by law, the creditor, the attorney of the creditor, or the attorney of the debt collector.

Send a certified letter to ERC describing the facts about the calls. Say you believe that the debt collector is acting in violation of the Federal FDCP Act and (your) state law, including, but not limited to 15 USC 1692c and insert the above statute. Demand that it stop all contact with you immediately or you will seek recovery of civil damages, sanctions, costs and fees and will contact state and federal attorney generals' offices to enforce the debt collector's obligations.

constant phone calls from this unknown caller @1-800-630-2530. as far as i'm concerned it is a harrassment phone call trying to reach someone who doesn't live here. I am 67 years old and my wife is 65.
